Crossing the Bosporus
[Isaiah 43:1] BUT NOW THUS SAITH THE LORD THAT CREATED THEE, O JACOB, AND HE THAT FORMED THEE, O ISRAEL, FEAR NOT: FOR I HAVE REDEEMED THEE, I HAVE CALLED THEE BY THY NAME; THOU ART MINE.
Jacob and Israel when juxtaposed often represent both Judah (the Jews) and Israel (the Ten Tribes): Which is which is not so simple and appears to be controversial. When Judah and Israel are juxtaposed then it is clear that Israel represents the 10 tribes and Judah the Jews. It should therefore follow that when Jacob and Israel are juxtaposed and the two entities are being discussed that Israel be the Ten Tribes and Jacob be Judah. The Malbim however claims the opposite whereas other commentaries disagree with him.
We should make a detailed study of this subject.
[Isaiah 43:2] WHEN THOU PASSEST THROUGH THE WATERS, I WILL BE WITH THEE; AND THROUGH THE RIVERS, THEY SHALL NOT OVERFLOW THEE: WHEN THOU WALKEST THROUGH THE FIRE, THOU SHALT NOT BE BURNED; NEITHER SHALL THE FLAME KINDLE UPON THEE.
Many nations shall come against you like walls of fire and water (Targum Yehonatan) but shall not overcome you.
[Isaiah 43:3] FOR I AM THE LORD THY GOD, THE HOLY ONE OF ISRAEL, THY SAVIOUR: I GAVE EGYPT FOR THY RANSOM, ETHIOPIA ("Cush") AND SEBA FOR THEE.
“ETHIOPIA” in Hebrew “Cush”. The term “Cush” could be applied to Ethiopia and the Sudan, to all of Africa, to India, or to Central Asia. Here as will be explained we believe the reference is to India.
“ETHIOPIA AND SEBA FOR THEE” in Hebrew the word translated as “FOR THEE” is “tachtecha” literally “underneath you” also implying subjected to you.
“Seba” represents the mighty Negro nations that from Saba in the Sudan branched out at a late date and overran most of Black Africa intermingling with, conquering, and/or replacing the previous dark peoples of the area.
We will see Isaiah predicted that the Lost Ten Tribes would gain possession of India and Egypt and transport slaves from Africa. This is what the British did.

WE have been very bad and the Prophets frequently tell us why. Even so there is also a good side to our character and looking back we have achieved something. God too recognizes this.
[Isaiah 43:5] FEAR NOT: FOR I AM WITH THEE: I WILL BRING THY SEED FROM THE EAST, AND GATHER THEE FROM THE WEST;
from both east and west. Australia and New Zealand are to the east. So too, are part of the Jews.
north and south. South would include Australia and New Zealand and South Africa.
[Isaiah 43:7] EVEN EVERY ONE THAT IS CALLED BY MY NAME: FOR I HAVE CREATED HIM FOR MY GLORY, I HAVE FORMED HIM; YEA, I HAVE MADE HIM.
[Isaiah 43:8] BRING FORTH THE BLIND PEOPLE THAT HAVE EYES, AND THE DEAF THAT HAVE EARS.
[Isaiah 43:9] LET ALL THE NATIONS BE GATHERED TOGETHER, AND LET THE PEOPLE BE ASSEMBLED: WHO AMONG THEM CAN DECLARE THIS, AND SHEW US FORMER THINGS? LET THEM BRING FORTH THEIR WITNESSES, THAT THEY MAY BE JUSTIFIED: OR LET THEM HEAR, AND SAY, IT IS TRUTH.
God tells us where the Lost Ten Tribes are and what they will do. It is written in the Bible.
[Isaiah 43:10] YE ARE MY WITNESSES, SAITH THE LORD, AND MY SERVANT WHOM I HAVE CHOSEN: THAT YE MAY KNOW AND BELIEVE ME, AND UNDERSTAND THAT I AM HE: BEFORE ME THERE WAS NO GOD FORMED, NEITHER SHALL THERE BE AFTER ME.
We are witnesses of God.
[Isaiah 43:11] I, EVEN I, AM THE LORD; AND BESIDE ME THERE IS NO SAVIOUR.
There is no savious other than nGod Almighty.
[Isaiah 43:12] I HAVE DECLARED, AND HAVE SAVED, AND I HAVE SHEWED, WHEN THERE WAS NO STRANGE GOD AMONG YOU: THEREFORE YE ARE MY WITNESSES, SAITH THE LORD, THAT I AM GOD.
[Isaiah 43:13] YEA, BEFORE THE DAY WAS I AM HE; AND THERE IS NONE THAT CAN DELIVER OUT OF MY HAND: I WILL WORK, AND WHO SHALL LET IT?
[Isaiah 43:14] THUS SAITH THE LORD, YOUR REDEEMER, THE HOLY ONE OF ISRAEL; FOR YOUR SAKE I HAVE SENT TO BABYLON, AND HAVE BROUGHT DOWN ALL THEIR NOBLES, AND THE CHALDEANS, WHOSE CRY IS IN THE SHIPS.
It was the Jews of Jerusalem and Judah who were taken to Babylon by the baylonians. previously the Northern Tribes of Ephraim and Israel had been exiled by the Assyrians.
CHALDEANS in Hebrew "Casdim." "The Hebrew Bible uses the term Kaśdim, and this is translated as Chaldaeans in the Christian Greek Old Testament.
[Isaiah 43:15] I AM THE LORD, YOUR HOLY ONE, THE CREATOR OF ISRAEL, YOUR KING.
[Isaiah 43:16] THUS SAITH THE LORD, WHICH MAKETH A WAY IN THE SEA, AND A PATH IN THE MIGHTY WATERS;
[Isaiah 43:17] WHICH BRINGETH FORTH THE CHARIOT AND HORSE, THE ARMY AND THE POWER; THEY SHALL LIE DOWN TOGETHER, THEY SHALL NOT RISE: THEY ARE EXTINCT, THEY ARE QUENCHED AS TOW.
Here he is talkng of the miracle of the parting of the Red Sea.
Some say this will repeated at the Bosporus where a narrow sea strait divides the European part of Turkey from Asia.
Extract from “Ephraim” chapter five in the 2nd edition and chapter six in the first edition.
The Bosporus Straits were spoken of by Jerome (d. 420 CE). He was the first to translate the Bible into Latin and reports having consulted with Jewish Sages. These scholars reported to Jerome the tradition that Israelites exiled by the Assyrians had reached the Bosporus Straits and passed over them to the north into Europe.
Jerome says: [on Zechariah 10:11 "AND HE SHALL PASS THROUGH THE SEA..." ] "The Hebrews say that the Assyrians and Chaldeans [i.e. Babylonians] took the Jews [i.e. including Israelites] into captivity not only to Persia and Media but also to the Bosporus and the north; and at the end of days God in his mercy will call them back from there:"
By "Jews" taken into captivity by the Assyrians Jerome is actually referring to Israelites from the northern Ten Tribes. Strictly speaking these were not "Jews" which appellation refers to Judaeans from the southern kingdom dominated by Judah. Jerome was therefore recording the tradition that the Ten Tribes or part of them had reached the Bosporos Straits and from there passed into Europe.
At all events within fifty years of the north Israelites' exile the Bosporus had become a Cimmmerian centre and was to remain so for about 150 years. Welsh tradition claimed that their ancestors the Cymry (i.e. "Cimmeri") led by Hu Gadarn of the Sons of Don had come across the "Lazy Sea" (i.e. Mediterranean) to Defen in the British Isles. He had arrived from Defrobane which was just opposite Byzantium. In other words Defrobane stood on the Asiatic side of the Bosporus in the place where the port of Defen had been. Defrobane may be some kind of linguistic derivation of Daphne. The British Welsh who came from DEFROBANE opposite Byzantium called themselves Cymry and the Scandinavian peoples contained an underlying ethnic stratum from the similarly named CIMBRI of Celtic culture. In Scandinavian mythology one version (reported by Saxo Grammaticus, 1150-1220 CE, concerning the origins of their ancestral gods said that they too came from the area of Byzantium, and that one of their ancestors ruled over a city in the nearby Hellespont called Dana! "Dana" is another way of pronouncing "Dan" one of the Tribes of Israel. Both the Welsh and the Scandinavians had traditions of having been in the same areas on their way northward.
This is what Zechariah said:
[ZECHARIAH 10:6] AND I WILL STRENGTHEN THE HOUSE OF JUDAH, AND I WILL SAVE THE HOUSE OF JOSEPH, AND I WILL BRING THEM AGAIN TO PLACE THEM; FOR I HAVE MERCY UPON THEM: AND THEY SHALL BE AS THOUGH I HAD NOT CAST THEM OFF: FOR I AM THE LORD THEIR GOD, AND WILL HEAR THEM.
This is the re-union of the LTTs with Judah.
[ZECHARIAH 10:7] AND THEY OF EPHRAIM SHALL BE LIKE A MIGHTY MAN, AND THEIR HEART SHALL REJOICE AS THROUGH WINE: YEA, THEIR CHILDREN SHALL SEE IT, AND BE GLAD; THEIR HEART SHALL REJOICE IN THE LORD.
[ZECHARIAH 10:8] I WILL HISS FOR THEM, AND GATHER THEM; FOR I HAVE REDEEMED THEM: AND THEY SHALL INCREASE AS THEY HAVE INCREASED.
[ZECHARIAH 10:9] AND I WILL SOW THEM AMONG THE PEOPLE: AND THEY SHALL REMEMBER ME IN FAR COUNTRIES; AND THEY SHALL LIVE WITH THEIR CHILDREN, AND TURN AGAIN.
[ZECHARIAH 10:10] I WILL BRING THEM AGAIN ALSO OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT, AND GATHER THEM OUT OF ASSYRIA; AND I WILL BRING THEM INTO THE LAND OF GILEAD AND LEBANON; AND PLACE SHALL NOT BE FOUND FOR THEM.
[ZECHARIAH 10:11] AND HE SHALL PASS THROUGH THE SEA WITH AFFLICTION, AND SHALL SMITE THE WAVES IN THE SEA, AND ALL THE DEEPS OF THE RIVER SHALL DRY UP: AND THE PRIDE OF ASSYRIA SHALL BE BROUGHT DOWN, AND THE SCEPTRE OF EGYPT SHALL DEPART AWAY.
[Isaiah 43:18] REMEMBER YE NOT THE FORMER THINGS, NEITHER CONSIDER THE THINGS OF OLD.
[Isaiah 43:19] BEHOLD, I WILL DO A NEW THING; NOW IT SHALL SPRING FORTH; SHALL YE NOT KNOW IT? I WILL EVEN MAKE A WAY IN THE WILDERNESS, AND RIVERS IN THE DESERT.
[Isaiah 43:20] THE BEAST OF THE FIELD SHALL HONOUR ME, THE DRAGONS AND THE OWLS: BECAUSE I GIVE WATERS IN THE WILDERNESS, AND RIVERS IN THE DESERT, TO GIVE DRINK TO MY PEOPLE, MY CHOSEN.

[Isaiah 43:21] THIS PEOPLE HAVE I FORMED FOR MYSELF; THEY SHALL SHEW FORTH MY PRAISE.
[Isaiah 43:22] BUT THOU HAST NOT CALLED UPON ME, O JACOB; BUT THOU HAST BEEN WEARY OF ME, O ISRAEL.
[Isaiah 43:23] THOU HAST NOT BROUGHT ME THE SMALL CATTLE OF THY BURNT OFFERINGS; NEITHER HAST THOU HONOURED ME WITH THY SACRIFICES. I HAVE NOT CAUSED THEE TO SERVE WITH AN OFFERING, NOR WEARIED THEE WITH INCENSE.
[Isaiah 43:24] THOU HAST BOUGHT ME NO SWEET CANE WITH MONEY, NEITHER HAST THOU FILLED ME WITH THE FAT OF THY SACRIFICES: BUT THOU HAST MADE ME TO SERVE WITH THY SINS, THOU HAST WEARIED ME WITH THINE INIQUITIES.
We have not rebuilt the Temple even though with a little effort we may have been able to. It may be replied, "We did not know who we are." Would it have been different?
[Isaiah 43:25] I, EVEN I, AM HE THAT BLOTTETH OUT THY TRANSGRESSIONS FOR MINE OWN SAKE, AND WILL NOT REMEMBER THY SINS.
God will forgive us.
[Isaiah 43:26] PUT ME IN REMEMBRANCE: LET US PLEAD TOGETHER: DECLARE THOU, THAT THOU MAYEST BE JUSTIFIED.
These sources show that both Welsh and Scandinavian tradition trace their ancestry to groups who arrived via the Bosporus. The Welsh sources speraks of the Son of Don. "Don" is an alternative way of pronouncing the Hebrew name "Dan". The Scandinavian tradition also refers to a place name "Dana" which is also another way of pronouncing the name Dan. The tribe of Dan was one of the Israelite tribe that populated Scandinavia and was especially important in Denmark which is peoples by the Danes who are named after Dan. We also find the Tribe of Dana in Ancient Ireland. Many of the Danes of Denmark at one stage invaded England and settled in parts of it. In Ancient Israel the tribe of Dan was settled in different areas. The two main regions of Dan settlement were on the coast near Jaffo and in the Galilee. Commentators noticed important differences between the two groups. Dan in the south had a weakenss for sexual adventure whereas in the north his weakness was more intellectual and coud incline towards idolatry.
NOTES ON DAN.
We trace Dan to Denmark and also to Ireland and Wales, and to the "Danelaw" area of northern England.
In Ireland we consider Dan to have been prominent in the north around Ulster, Cavan, and Donegal and maybe in the Viking city settlements.
Most Irish of Israelite descent however probably belong to other Tribes.
Dan is like a snake, devious and crafty. He may also be like a lion pouncing on his victim: Or like a lion and serpent together. Dan may also be symbolized by an eagle.
Dan in tradition was more pulled to idolatry than other tribes and more involved with non-Israelites and absorbed their values. Dan was the rear-guard. He is conservative and aggressive. He also has a tendency to waste himself, to abuse his relationships with others, and to squander his wealth if he has any. All the while he is doing this he hopes to make it all up some time in the future. Dan was a warrior.
Samson came from Dan and according to one source so will the mother of the future Messiah. The future Messiah in some sources will have a kind of "side-kick" or assistant from the Tribe of Dan.
A Jewish legend says that Dan left the Land of Israel before the other tribes since Dan did not want to participate with King Jeroboam in hostilities against Judah. Dan is a peace-maker amongst the tribes, an avoider of fraternal conflict yet definitely not weak or afraid. Dan is a doer of justice, and a litigator. Lawyers and judges and legally-minded types among the Lost Ten Tribes often come from Dan. Some criminal types may also be from Dan.
