1. David as Prototype.
The first King of Israel was Saul from the Tribe of Benjamin. After Saul came David from the Tribe of Judah. David defeated the enemies of Israel. He established his capital in Jerusalem. David prepared much of what was needed for the Temple whose construction was completed by his son, Solomon.
David was extremely pious. He wrote a good portion of the Book of Psalms.
David was the Prototype for the future Messiah who will be descended from him. David represents the future restoration of the Jewish People and their re-unification with the Lost Ten Tribes.

2. Who Was David?
David was a descendant of Judah who was a son of Israel.
The first Hebrew was Abraham.
Abraham begat Isaac who begat Jacob.
Jacob was re-named Israel.
He gave rise to the 12 Tribes of Israel.
The fourth son of Israel was named Judah.
The mother of Judah was Leah.
The sons of Judah who survived and begat children were Sheliah, Zerach, and Peretz (sometimes written as "Perez"). Peretz was an ancestor of Boaz who married Ruth the Moabitess. Her story is related in the Book of Ruth (Ruth 4:18-22). From Boaz descended Jesse the father of David.
Expressions such as "Son of Jesse" (1-Samuel 16:18, 20:27, 22:9, 25:10, 2-Samuel 23:10, 1-Chronicles 12:18), "Trunk of Jesse" (Isaiah 11:1,) "Root of Jesse" (Isaiah 11:10). all refer to David, or to the future Messiah descendant of David.

3. David King over Israel.
David was made Kng over Israel.

16 SINCE THE DAY THAT I BROUGHT FORTH MY PEOPLE ISRAEL OUT OF EGYPT, I CHOSE NO CITY FROM ANY TRIBE OF ISRAEL TO BUILD A HOUSE WHERE MY NAME MIGHT BE PRAISED, BUT I CHOSE DAVID TO BE OVER MY PEOPLE ISRAEL.

4. An Eternal Throne.
David had been promised that his seed would rule over Hebrews forever. This blessing was confirmed to Solomon.
1-Kings (KJB) 9:
5 THENI WILL ESTABLISH THE THRONE OF YOUR KINGDOM UPON ISRAEL FOREVER, JUST AS I PROMISED TO YOUR FATHER DAVID, SAYING, 'YOU SHALL NOT FAIL TO HAVE A MAN UPON THE THRONE OF ISRAEL.'
1-Kings (KJB) 11:
36 TO HIS SON WILL I GIVE ONE TRIBE, SO THAT MY SERVANT DAVID WILL ALWAYS HAVE A LIGHT BEFORE ME IN JERUSALEM, THE CITY IN WHICH I HAVE CHOSEN TO PUT MY NAME.

5. In the Name of David
Solomon prayed to God on behalf of his kingdom in the name of his father David.
1-Kings (KJB) 8:
25 Therefore, LORD God of Israel, now keep what You promised Your servant David my father, saying, 'You will not fail to have a man sit before Me on the throne of Israel, so long as your sons take heed to their way, that they walk before Me as you have walked before Me.'

6. David was Chosen.
When Solomon built the Temple he praised the Almighty and quoted the promise God had made regarding the lineage of David.

7. David the Anointed.
In Psalms David is referred to as the "Anointed," in Hebrew "Mashiach" i.e. Messiah.

50 HE GIVES GREAT DELIVERANCE TO HIS KING, AND SHOWS LOVINGKINDNESS TO HIS ANOINTED, TO DAVID AND TO HIS DESCENDANTS FOR EVERMORE.

8. Temporary Rejection by the Ten Tribes of the Son of Jesse!
When the Ten Tribes rebelled against Rehoboam the son of Solomon they described themselves as rejecting the son of Jesse, i.e. descendants of David. The Future Redemption will come when they repent and return to request that David (i.e. the Messiah, son of David) rule over them (Midrash Shmuel 13; Midrash Yalkut Shimeoni-2, remez 106; Rashi on Hosea 3:5).

16 SO WHEN ALL ISRAEL SAW THAT THE KING DID NOT LISTEN TO THEM, THE PEOPLE RESPONDED TO THE KING, SAYING, 'WHAT PORTION DO WE HAVE IN DAVID? WE ALSO DO NOT HAVE AN INHERITANCE IN THE SON OF JESSE. TO YOUR TENTS, O ISRAEL, AND SEE TO YOUR OWN HOUSE, DAVID! SO THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL DEPARTED TO THEIR TENTS.

9. The Future Messiah will be a Branch of David.
The Future Messiah is referred to as a Branch of David i.e. an offshoot meaning a descendant.
Jeremiah (KJB) 33:
15 IN THOSE DAYS AND AT THAT TIME, I WILL CAUSE A RIGHTEOUS BRANCH TO SPRING UP FOR DAVID; AND HE SHALL EXECUTE JUSTICE AND RIGHTEOUSNESS IN THE EARTH.
Ezekiel (KJB) 34:
24 I THE LORD WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND MY SERVANT DAVID SHALL BE PRINCE AMONG THEM. I THE LORD HAVE SPOKEN.
Hosea (KJB) 3:

This "Rod out of the Stem of Jesse," and Branch Growing out of his Roots is the future Messiah son of David son of Jesse.

14. MBJ. Messiah son of Joseph.
Rabbi Eliyahu Eliezer Dessler (1892-1953):
"Such is the order of the Future redemption: In the beginning there will appear the (first) Messiah, Son of Joseph, who personifies the aspect of arousal and emotion as explained above...
"And after all this there will appear the (second) Messiah, Son of David, who embodies the application of Intelligence coming from above. A prior condition [for the appearance of the Messiah Son of David] will be the appearance [of somebody or some phenomenon representing the feature] of Elijah:
The Messiah son of David (MBD) will be preceded by the Messiah son of Joseph (MBJ).
MBJ will be involved with rebuilding the Land of Israel.
A rapproche with Judah will be initiated.
MBJ will enable the LTTs (Lost Ten Tribes) to recognize their Tribal Ancestry.
This process will be completed by MBD.
Maimonides brings as a legal principle the declaration that the future Messiah will inform each Israelite which Tribe they pertain to, and that the members of the Tribe of Levi will be identified first. See Maimonides, Mishneh Torah, The Laws of Kings, ch. 12, no.3 based on the Talmud, Kiddushin 70;a.
On the other hand, EISEMANN (on the Book of Ezekiel, p.579, quotes from a Midrashic source (Pirkei Heichalos 39:1) that due to the Messiah son of Joseph,
"all of Israel will be identified by their correct families."

15. MBD reveals individual Tribal Ancestry;
Maimonides says:
# In the days of the Messianic King: When his kingdom shall be settled and
all of Israel gather unto him, he shall then give the Tribal-genealogy of
each individual. He shall do this through Divine inspiration. As it says,
HE SHALL SIT AS A REFINER AND PURIFIER (Malachi 3:3). He will purify the
Tribe of Levi first..as it says, "till there be stood up a priest with
Urim and with Thumim' (Ezra 2:63). The Messiah gives the genealogy of Israel only
concerning which Tribe each one belongs to.."

Edward-iv of England (1442-1483) traced his ancestry back to King Jehoshaphat (867-851 BCE) of Judah. Jehoshaphat was a descendants of King David.
