1. Introductory Note by Yair Davidiy:
The extract below is a TRANSLATION and adaptation with some minor editorial changes. Nevertheless the content is that of the author, Chaim Chanon, unless explicitly stated otherwise. Our own comments will usually be found placed in square brackets [..]. It is also only fair to mention that at present Rabbi Chanon DOES NOT agree with us concerning the identification of the Ten Tribes with Western Nations. He has just received our Hebrew-language work, Achim Acharim, giving an outline of the subject. He says the concept is new to him and with him new ideas always take a while to germinate and be accepted. We understand that Chaim Chanon is a Rabbinical scholar and in putting this work together he has consulted with others like himself.
Much of what Chaim Chanon says has already been explained by us in our Commentary to the Prophets

Nevertheless, Rabbi Chanon has several points of importance that we did not mention. He also has a slightly different approach through his conclusions are very similar to our own.

2. Revenge Against Edom to be taken by Joseph
The Prophet Obadiah predicted revenge against Edom being carried out by the descendants of Joseph, meaning the Ten Tribes.
Obadiah 1:
8 On that day, says the Lord,
I will destroy the wise out of Edom,
and understanding out of Mount Esau.
9 Your warriors shall be shattered, O Teman,
so that everyone from Mount Esau will be cut off.
10 For the slaughter and violence done to your brother Jacob,
shame shall cover you,
and you shall be cut off for ever. ...
12 But you should not have gloated over your brother
on the day of his misfortune;
you should not have rejoiced over the people of Judah
on the day of their ruin;
you should not have boasted
on the day of distress. ...
18 The house of Jacob shall be a fire,
the house of Joseph a flame,
and the house of Esau stubble;
they shall burn them and consume them,
and there shall be no survivor of the house of Esau;
for the LORD has spoken.
We see clearly from the above that when the Prophet recalls Edom (Esau) having oppressed Israel he mentions Judah.
When speaking of revenge to be taken against Edom the Prophet speaks of the House of Joseph i.e. Ten Tribes,
e.g. "the house of Joseph a flame" (Obadiah 1:18).
By House of Joseph the intention is either to all of the Ten Tribes or specifically to descendants of Joseph.
Admittedly it does not say expressly in the Book of Obadiah that Edom will have oppressed Judah but it does say so in Ezekiel.
Ezekiel 25:
12 Thus says the LORD God: Because Edom acted vengefully against the house of Judah and has grievously offended in taking vengeance upon them,
13 therefore thus says the LORD God, I will stretch out my hand against Edom, and cut off from it humans and animals, and I will make it desolate; from Teman even to Dedan they shall fall by the sword.
14 I will lay my vengeance upon Edom by the hand of my people Israel; and they shall act in Edom according to my anger and according to my wrath; and they shall know my vengeance, says the LORD God.
NRSV
At the beginning of this passages (Ezekiel 25:12) its says "Edom acted vengefully against the house of Judah" and at the end it mentions "my vengeance upon Edom by the hand of my people Israel" (25:14).
At the beginning it speaks of Judah and then concludes with vengeance being taken by Israel.
Why is this?
Co-relating this prophecy with that of Obadiah we see that vengeance against Edom will be taken by the Ten Tribes.
The term Israel in this prophecy represents the Ten Tribes.
The term Israel in the Book of Ezekiel does not necessarily mean the Ten Tribes. It is also used for Judah but since the Book of Obadiah expressly says that the Ten Tribes will do the vengeance-taking we may assume that in this case by Israel the Ten Tribes are intended.
Obadiah says clearly that the Ten Tribes shall take vengeance from Edom.
Ezekiel tells us that Edom will have oppressed Judah.

3. A Biblical Precedent: Warriors from Manasseh Aided David Against Amalek
A parallel may be found from Biblical Times.
In the last days of King Saul, Amalekites (a branch of Edom) harassed David and his men. They burnt the settlement of Ziklag and took captive the women and children. David and his men pursued after them and fought them. David (from Judah) was assisted by the Children of Manasseh. The Amalekites had not oppressed Manasseh. The men of Manasseh fought on behalf of Judah.
1-Samuel 30:
NRSV
1 Now when David and his men came to Ziklag on the third day, the Amalekites had made a raid on the Negeb and on Ziklag. They had attacked Ziklag, burned it down, 2 and taken captive the women and all who were in it, both small and great; they killed none of them, but carried them off, and went on their way. 3 When David and his men came to the city, they found it burnt down, and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive. ...
9 So David set out, he and the six hundred men who were with him. They came to the Wadi Besor, where those stayed who were left behind. 10 But David went on with the pursuit, he and four hundred men; two hundred stayed behind, too exhausted to cross the Wadi Besor. ...
17 David attacked them from twilight until the evening of the next day. Not one of them escaped, except four hundred young men, who mounted camels and fled. 18 David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken; and David rescued his two wives.
1-Chronicles 12:
NRSV
19 Some of the Manassites deserted to David when he came with the Philistines for the battle against Saul. ...20 As he went to Ziklag these Manassites deserted to him: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, and Zillethai, chiefs of the thousands in Manasseh. 21 They helped David against the band of raiders, for they were all warriors and commanders in the army...

4. Vengeance. A Primary Task of Joseph
The reason that the Ten Tribes, and not Judah, take revenge against Edom is that this is a primary task of Joseph.
# Edom will only be defeated by descendants of Rachel # (Midrash Breishit Rabbah 73;7).
This is the main "Tikkun" [Rectification i.e. Destined Goal] of Joseph. It is also that of Benjamin. Joseph and Benjamin are the two sons of Rachel. Nevertheless it applies mostly to Joseph.

5. Other Cases where Joseph Aided Judah
[The author, Chaim Chanon, analyses the Book of Joshua. Joshua was from the Tribe of Ephraim. He founds that great emphasis is placed on Joshua having helped Judah inherit their portion and so too with Benjamin.]
[ Chaim Chanon also quotes from the Ramchal (Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzatto 1707-1746) who says that the Messiah son of Joseph will redeem Judah and the Messiah son of David the Ten Tribes. This is the exact opposite from the general understanding that we have adopted up till now,
See:

A later article will return to this subject.
Chaim Chanon implies that the future redemption will begin from Joseph.]

6. The Ten Tribes to Subdue Peoples of the World!
The Ten Tribes have a major role to play in subduing the heathen nations in the future as we find in several prophecies.
There are prophetic predictions where this is expressly mentioned.
For instance, at the end of the Book of Micah:
Micah 7:
15 As in the days when you came out of Egypt, I will show them my wonders
NIV
This means that the Ten Tribes will merit to see miracles such as those of the Exodus from Egypt.
They shall also subdue the Gentiles,
Micah 7:
NRSV
16 The nations shall see and be ashamed
of all their might;
they shall lay their hands on their mouths;
their ears shall be deaf;
17 they shall lick dust like a snake,
like the crawling things of the earth;
they shall come trembling out of their fortresses;
they shall turn in dread to the Lord our God,
and they shall stand in fear of you.
This prophecy applies to the Lost Ten Tribes , as is explained [ by Chaim Chanon in commentary] in Micah chapters 6 and 7.
So too,
in the Book of Zechariah it says concerning the Ten Tribes:
Zechariah 10:
7 Then the people of Ephraim shall become like warriors,...
8 I will signal for them and gather them in, for I have redeemed them,
and they shall be as numerous as they were before. ...
10 I will bring them home from the land of Egypt, and gather them from Assyria;
I will bring them to the land of Gilead and to Lebanon, until there is no room for them.
11 They shall pass through the sea of distress, and the waves of the sea shall be struck down,
and all the depths of the Nile dried up. The pride of Assyria shall be laid low, and the sceptre of Egypt shall depart.
12 I will make them strong in the LORD, and they shall walk in his name, says the Lord.
The Gentiles are symbolized by the Sea, and their strength is likened to the waves of the ocean.
The Ten Tribes shall strike the waves, " the waves of the sea shall be struck down" (Zechariah 10:11).
This means they shall break the might of the Gentile Realms.

7. The Prophet Amos and the Ten Tribes
Amos prophesied only concerning the Ten Tribes. All the Book of Amos speaks exclusively about them.
It follows that the Conclusion of the Book of Amos refers just to them.
The words of consolation at the end of the Book of Amos therefore apply to the Ten Tribes.
Also, all the prophets spoke of retribution taken from Judah or from the Ten Tribes. This retribution is always followed by consolation for those concerned. Amos is no exception. His consolation is intended for the Ten Tribes of Israel.
Amos 9:
NRSV
11 On that day I will raise up
the Booth of David that is fallen,
and repair its breaches,
and raise up its ruins,
and rebuild it as in the days of old;
12 in order that they may possess the remnant of Edom
and all the nations who are called by my name,
says the LORD who does this.
[Rabbi Chaim Chanon reads the Hebrew text of the last verses (Amos 9:12) as saying,
# in order that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations. [They are those] who are called by my name, says the LORD who does this. #
It says those "who are called by my name" (Amos 9:12) shall inherit the remnant of Edom and all the nations.
That is to say that the Ten Tribes shall inherit Edom.
