The Kurds and Israel

Kurds.
The largest minority in Turkey are Kurds in the east with about 25% of the total.  Many of the Kurds want greater autonomy. They would prefer independence. Many Kurds want to have their own state together with their Kurdish kinfolk now ruled over by Iraq and Iran. The total number of Kurds in 1991 was placed at 22.5 million, with 48% of this number living in Turkey, 24% in Iran, 18% in Iraq, and 4% in Syria. The Kurds are mainly Sunni Muslims but their practices are different from those of the mainstream Turkish population. The Kurdish Language is an Iranian dialect similar to that of the Ancient Medes. Different legends indicate an association through the females with Ancient Israelites. Their relationship with the Jews historically on the whole has been cordial. Tentative attempts however to draw sections of them closer to the Jewish People have not been successful.

In the writings of the 10th-century Arab historian Al-Masudi, the Kurds are described as the offspring of King Solomon's concubines engendered by the demon Jasad.

 Another version says that the Kurds 
## are the descendants of King Solomons's concubines and his angelical servants. These were sent to Europe to bring him five-hundred beautiful maidens, for the king's harem. However, when these had done so and returned to Israel the king had already died. As such, the Djinn (angels, demons) settled in the mountains, married the women themselves, and their offspring came to be known as the Kurds. #

The Kurds are sometimes associated with the Ancient Corduene of Eastern Turkey. They are recalled in Assyrian inscriptions.
A legend recorded by Judaic scholars claimed that the people of Corduene had supernatural origins, when King Solomon arranged the marriage of 500 Jewish women to jinns (genies). Early Islamic authorities, used this legend to  explaining the origin of the Kurds.

Another people the Lurs, of Iranian or Elamite origin, also in Eastern Turkey  use this same legend to explain their own origin.
