Why was WW2 taken into North Africa?
The Italians declared war on the British in June 1940. The Italians already had a foothold in Libya having conquered Libya in 1921-31. The British were in neighboring Egypt and also in Palestine. The Italian armies were defeated. German forces under Rommel were sent to save what was possible of the Italian armies and to attack the British in February 1941.
The Germans invaded North Africa in order to save the Italians, extend their conquests there and advance into Palestine. The Germans were driven by the urge to kill Jews wherever they were. About 500,000 Jews were in Palestine.
Palestine was a potential source of Jewish blood to feed on. The Jews in that region were in their Homeland. They formed a core element from which the Jews might rebuild themselves. The prime purpose of the war was to destroy the Jews. Everything else was of secondary importance.

Rommel had been given the aim of killing Jews in Egypt, and Palestine. That was the purpose of his attempted invasion of British-held Egypt. Killing Jews was the main Nazi goal in WW2.
A special Killing Squad was set up under a veteran (SS Colonel Walter Rauff) from the killing fields of Russia. Its purposes was to exterminate the Jews of North Africa and of Palestine.

The Mufti in a broadcast from Berlin on July 7 called on the Arabs to annihilate the Jewish population in Palestine (McKale p.31).
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu (October 2015) blamed the Mufti for giving Hitler the idea of exterminating the Jews. This was somewhat exaggerated. The Mufti was no more than a lackey of the Axis. The blood lust of Husseini merely resonated with that of Germany.
