Above is a model for a future rebuilding of Berlin designed by Hitler and Speer. It shows Roman influence. Berlin was to be renamed 'Babylon.' This shows the inner identification of Hitler and may reflect on his ancestry. Technically AH was Austrian with an Austrian father and mother. His henchman was Himmler who encouraged adulation of ancient Germanic rituals and lore. Hitler himself was well read up on the subject. Nevertheless Adolf H. seems to have admired the ancient Spartans of Greece and the Romans more than anything else. He sought to emulate them. The Romans were derived in part from the Sabines who were believed to have come from Sparta. There may be some significance concerning AH in such a connection. Many Germans today share this reverence for Roman and for things Roman. It also sheds a different light on the alliance with Mussolini. It is also worth noting that in Jewish and early Christian imagery Rome was identified as Babylon.
Psalm (NASB) 137:
7 Remember, O LORD, against the sons of Edom
The day of Jerusalem,
Who said, Raze it, raze it
To its very foundation.
8 O daughter of Babylon, you devastated one,
How blessed will be the one who repays you
With the recompense with which you have repaid us.
The picture below is a sketch that AH drew as a schoolboy in Linz, Austria. See: Some Hitler sketches http://www.messagestone.net/Nazi.... It illustrates the Roman inspiration for what became the Nazi salute.
