In our answer to a similar question:
Why were the Jews really targeted by Nazi Germany?
https://www.quora.com/Why-were-t...
We mentioned the need of the Nazis for to victimize a vulnerable target. The Jews were available.
This resonated with the predilections of many among the German people.
In another answer Chris Thomas listed several groups who were also persecuted, e.g. Roma, Homosexuals, Communists.
Other such victims came to include Catholic Priests, Deformed Children, and even German incapacitated invalids who had become that way by fighting for Germany in World War 1!
Hitler had once been a homosexual prostitute yet he killed homosexuals. He had also dabbled in the occult yet occultists could be persecuted. The Nazis did not need justification. Whoever was in the way had to be put down.
Hitler and his followers had proven themselves by beating up their opponents and anyone they did not like.Â
They had shown the necessary cruelty and relentless sadism that the German People felt a need for.
They therefore put Hitler in charge.
But why pick on the Jews more than anyone else?
We noted a combination of other forces such as blaming the Jews for the defeat of World War 1, sexual jealousy, etc.

That is where the answer lies.
People believe in God because they seek a source of morality beyond themselves.
Historically this involved a face to face contact with the Deity at Mount Sinai.
This is too much for most people so they water it down by emphasizing intermediaries.
The Jews do not.
The existence of the Jews testified to the existence of God in this world.
The Jews had to go.
