The Northern Kingdom of Israel was comprised of Ten Tribes. They had separated from Judah in the south. The Assyrians conquered them and sent all of them into exile. A portion were taken overland to northern regions of the Assyrian Empire.
1-Chronicles 5:
25 And they were unfaithful to the God of their fathers, and played the harlot after the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them. 26 So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, that is, Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria. He carried the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh into captivity. He took them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and the river of Gozan to this day.
2-Kings (NKJV) 17
5 Now the king of Assyria went throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria and besieged it for three years. 6 In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria took Samaria and carried Israel away to Assyria, and placed them in Halah and by the Habor, the River of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.
These eventually moved further north and then westwards. Others were placed in the hands of Philistine (Minoans and Myceneans) and Phoenician (ships from Tyre) proxies and taken by boat to Spain, the British Isles, Scandinavia, and the west where Edomite taskmasters at first ruled over them.
Amos (NKJV) 1:
6 Thus says the LORD:
For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because they took captive the whole captivity
To deliver them up to Edom....
9 Thus says the LORD:
For three transgressions of Tyre, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom,
And did not remember the covenant of brotherhood.
Amos 4 (NKJV):
4 Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria,
Who oppress the poor,
Who crush the needy,
Who say to your husbands, Bring wine, let us drink!
2 The LORD God has sworn by His holiness:
Behold, the days shall come upon you
When He will take you away with fishhooks [Hebrew: Fish-boats i.e. very large ships from Cyprus],
And your posterity [children] with fishhooks [Hebrew: tsinot i.e. large ships].
3 You will go out through broken walls,
Each one straight ahead of her,
And you will be cast into Harmon [in the direction of Har-Mannae i.e. north of Armenia] Says the LORD.
The two streams of migration converged in Western Europe. That is where descendants of the Lost Ten Tribes are to be found today as well as in Northern America, Australia, New Zealand, etc. All this is confirmed by Biblical and Rabbinical sources as well as by Archaeology, Mythology, Linguistics, etc.
