The Tribe of Reuben and sub-groups within the Tribe equated with historical and modern entities (24 June, 2013, Tammuz 16, 5773)

Genesis 46 and Numbers 26 lists all the clans amongst the Israelite Tribes.
Many of the different clans were destined to become peoples and tribes in their own right. By comparing the names of these clans with historical groups we can confirm
conclusions concerning the Israelite Descent of these historical groups and determine to which tribe they belonged to. We often find the same groups aligned with each other in the past and at the present times as when they were within their Israelite Tribal Groupings.
Details of these matters are available in our work, The Tribes.
Let us consider the case of the names associated with Reuben and Tribal Clans within Reuben.
Numbers 26:
5 Reuben was the firstborn of Israel. The children of Reuben were: of Hanoch, the family of the Hanochites; of Pallu, the family of the Palluites; 6 of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites; of Carmi, the family of the Carmites. 7 These are the families of the Reubenites: those who were numbered of them were forty-three thousand seven hundred and thirty. 8 And the son of Pallu was Eliab. 9 The sons of Eliab were Nemuel, Dathan, and Abiram. These are the Dathan and Abiram, representatives of the congregation, who contended against Moses and Aaron in the company of Korah, when they contended against the Lord; 10 and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up together with Korah when that company died, when the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men; and they became a sign. 11 Nevertheless the children of Korah did not die.
REUBEN AND THE "RIBUARI"- FRANKS "
Genesis 46:Â Â
8 And these are the names of the children of Israel which came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons: 9 Reuben, Jacob's firstborn. "And the sons of Reuben: HANOCH, and PHALU:, and HEZRON, and CARMI".
Reuben inherited part of Israel adjoining the Euphrates River. Descendants of Reuben were referred to as "Rabeans" in the Mari correspondence from northern Syria. Reuben was also recalled in Northeast "Syria", in the Geography of Ptolemy (based on Ancient Sources) as the Rahabbanai. After being exiled a portion of the tribe of Reuben was recorded as the Rhabbanai in East Scythia, and later as the Ribuari (Franks) in Gaul. "Ribuari" means Reubeni. They were also known as the Rubi.

CLANS OF REUBEN:
Chanoch = Chauci, Hugo (Franks, Saxons).
Palui (Phalui) = Falia (Phalia in Germany whence the Franks invaded Gaul)
Chetsroni = Chassuari (Franks), Istaevones (Sicambri-Franks).
Carmi: = Carmania (in southern Iran), Crimea (Scythia), Carini (Franks in Gaul).
Gog (a clan of Reuben) = Gogarene (Iberia in Caucasus), Gog (state in Scythia north of Tibet), name of Goths and of the Lost Ten Tribes in popular traditions.
Nemuel - Nemetes of Gaul (?)Â
We see from the above that most clans of Reuben were to be identifiable with the Franks who settled in France and gave France its name. Before the Franks  the area of France had been known as Gaul, in Hebrew Gallia. Gaul had been settled by peoples of Celtic Culture especially the Galatae. The Galatae (Galatians) were also known as Galadi. This is another form of the Hebrew name Gilead.  Gilead was both the name of a clan of Manasseh as well as of an area east of the Jordan in which elements of Manasseh and Reuben dwelt.  [The Tribe of Reuben had settled in both the regions of Bashan and Gilead east of the Jordan.] Since additional factors indicate strongly that the Israelites in France were to be predominantly from Reuben we may suppose that the Galatae (Galadi)  in Gaul were also from Reuben and had been so named after the region their forefathers had dwelt in.Â
