Police officers investigating child sexual exploitation in Sheffield were told to 'wind your necks in' by bosses after warning about the scale of the problem, a retired detective has claimed. A BBC investigation has alleged that senior officers thought car crime, burglary and robbery were bigger priorities than child sexual exploitation, despite detectives in the city warning it was a major problem. Retired detective Tony Brookes, who spent 30 years with the force, worked on inquiries in 2007 which led to six abusers being convicted, and he wanted to build on the case as he recognised the size of the problem. He said the issue of child sexual exploitation in Sheffield was 'massive' and bigger than in neighbouring Rotherham, where at least 1,400 children were abused over a 16-year-period. Mr Brookes said his team was told by a senior officer to 'wind your necks in'. He said: 'I don't think the force wanted to pay. The priorities are robbery, burglary and car crime. ... The allegations from Mr Brookes have prompted Police and Crime Commissioner Alan Billings to call for a wide-ranging inspection of the force. Dr Billings wants it to be similar in scope to the recent Louise Casey review of Rotherham Council, which resulted in Government-appointed commissioners taking control of the running of the council and the entire cabinet of the local authority resigning.

2. 'Deep Investigation' Coming from Congress on U.S. Funding for Anti-Netanyahu Efforts by Bridget Johnson

Extracts:
Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R) said the State Department funding granted to a group lobbying against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is 'a big, huge deal and warrants some deep investigation.'
Kinzinger told Fox 'this is a huge, huge issue.'
'I mean, I don't know at least of overtly before the U.S. government has ever funded an organization that funded a subsidiary whose sole purpose was to overthrow an elected government of an ally, of a friend. I mean, Benjamin Netanyahu is not a major opponent of the United States. He's a friend of the United States,' the congressman said. 'The Israel people are friends. If, in fact, this is true that the State Department, Â I mean, money is fungible. So money was given to this group, OneVoice, and they gave money to the subsidiary Victory 15, whose sole purpose stated is to overthrow or dis-elect the current government.'
The State Department has denied that OneVoice was involved in the Israeli election, and said the group got its funding before the election was called.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.) sent a letter to IRS Commissioner John Koskinen earlier this month asking for information on OneVoice's tax-exempt status. They sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry in January asking about any U.S. funding of anti-Netanyahu campaigns.
Zeldin called it 'abundantly clear that OneVoice, a U.S. taxpayer funded 501(c)(3), is fully engaged in political activities to oust the Israeli prime minister.'
'It is important for IRS Commissioner Koskinen to assist with our efforts to hold OneVoice responsible for any possible violation of its tax exempt status,' the freshman congressman added. 'U.S. law must always be consistently enforced, and the IRS Commissioner must not make any special exception for OneVoice.'
Cruz said the Obama administration 'seems much more interested in regime change in Jerusalem than in Tehran.'

3. The Israeli Election Through the Eyes of an American

Extracts:
For many American observers, following the results of the Israeli election on Tuesday night was a bizarre experience. As the hours passed and the exit polls rapidly shifted, what became increasingly clear is how complex the parliamentary system is and how fluid the results are. It is very possible that by the time, you, dear reader, will be reading these words, a new and different set of figures, Â along with their ramifications, Â will have been released.
In every democratic election, predictions of ballot results are the grist for endless amounts of analysis and speculation. In addition to the army of pundits and professional analysts, it seems like everyone has an opinion.
On Tuesday, the exit polls appeared to indicate that the pollsters who so confidentially predicted that Likud would get substantially less than the Zionist Union, Â and in some cases sought to influence voters to ensure this result - were false prophets.
For American readers, long accustomed to the winner achieving more than 50 percent of the vote in many cases, the parliamentary system can seem perplexing if not simply undemocratic. Whoever will be declared the winner of this election actually gets about a quarter of the vote; ultimately, it is his ability to forge deals and establish coalition partners that will decide who will be prime minister. Precisely who, what and how will be seen in the days and weeks ahead.
... Perhaps the only certain winner was Moshe Kahlon's Kulanu party, an entity that didn't even exist in the last election and now apparently scored a respectable eight to nine seats. For Eli Yishai and his Yachad party, simply making it into the Knesset is an accomplishment.
In the days to come it will become more apparent who was promised what by whom, and the grandiose election-night statements will likely be irrelevant.
Tuesday night was a long night in Israeli politics. The candidates will wait until daybreak to take out their political knives, and then the real story behind the story will come out.
The name of the game is building a coalition.

5. Israeli Elections. Government Formation Options Discussed [Speculation]
Netanyahu is receiving most of the credit for the Likud victory especially since the polls were painting a different picture but he kept going at full steam.
Meanwhile it looks like Bibi prefers a coalition with Hareidim, Kulanu, Shas, Liberman, and Bennet.
The Hareidim [Yahdut HaTorah and Shas] may form a bloc with Kachlon [Kulanu] to keep Lapid out and distance Bennet from social ministries.  There is also talk of Kachlon and Liberman coordinating positions between them but this is doubtful.
Bennet seems to have no real ally unless he ties up again with Lapid something which seems unlikely. It was a mistake on his part to victimise the Hareidim and lord it over them on educational matters, funding, and other matters.Â
International Pressure is liable to push Bibi to form a coalition with Herzog but Netanyahu will probably avoid it if he can.
Lapid is probably out of the government option altogether but who knows?
Zahavah Galon has resigned from Meretz.
The Arabs have increased their potential influence.
If Yachad [Eli Yishai] gets in (which seems unlikely at present) the picture could yet change even more in favor of the Hareidim and the Right Wing.
Bennet fell seriously from what the polls were predicting not so long ago. He received 8 versus 19 predicted at the beginning of the Election Campaign.Â
