(a) Unconvinced!

Shalom Yair,
Just wondering why that person was being mean and hateful to you concerning the tribes, he said Israel was black and you were lying, why is he saying that? Where does this belief come from that Israel was black? I am sure there was a little of all of us mixed in there at some point or another but what makes people so unaccepting of each others color? Were we black in the beginning?

Brit-Am Reply:
First of all we get letters like that all the time.
There is a whole movement of Black People who believe they are Israelites. They say that the whites are inferior mutants who were once black but turned white. The Jews are impostors and Edomites and so are the whites.
They have a complete doctrine.
It interlocks with, and is part of, Black Assertiveness.
There is a movement of academics and almost-academics who elevate the achievements of Black Africans to far beyond what conventional history accords them.
In some cases and in some ways they may have a point but on the whole they do not.
Martin Bernal for instance wrote a book "Black Athena" showing how ancient Greece received much of its civilization from Egypt. 19th century European historians tended to ignore or deny the Egyptian contribution to Western Civilization.
They seem to have been motivated by conscious or sub-conscious racism. The works of Bernal (following "Black Athena" he wrote more along the same lines) were scholarly and convincing.
The Black Pride people appropriate the Egyptians to themselves considering them black and African.
The Black Hebrew people then take white supremacy doctrines such as Aryan Nations, Serpent Seed, etc., and turn it on its head. They keep the hateful anti-Jewish teachings. Where the white racists say the whites are the super race and the blacks inferior and pollutants the Black Hebrews reverse the roles but keep the same doctrine.
We should learn something from their dedication and persistence.
They learn the subject matter. They know it of by heart. They do what they can to spread it.
My impression is that today anyone, anywhere, who puts a clip on YouTube concerning the identity of the Ten Tribes will receive messages from Black Hebrews pushing their doctrines.
Consequently a lot of white people and almost anyone with a little bit of colored blood (of any kind) will at least take an interest. And so their movement grows.
This is the reality.
God bless you
Yair

2. Charlotte Mecklenburg: About DNA
Dear Yair,
I really appreciated the message from Rabbi Israel Feld, also Rabbi Tzvi Mecklenburg who saw Joseph in a different light. If Joseph's coat indicated he was chosen for the blessing of firstborn, that alone would be enough to make the brothers harass him. When they needled him, he probably told the dreams to back up'Â proof that his father had chosen him correctly.
But that was not the reason I wrote. I have been thinking again about DNA ideas. I just want to put them down and then decided I would share them with you. I do not know if they should be share with the list because, they are only ideas with nothing to base them on fact. It may be a start the way a scientist would just begin to look at data and I don't have enough.
Once several years ago, you mentioned that the R1b1 group may have been the oldest group because of the number of changes it has. I wondered about it and thought you might be right. Then I heard recently from Drs. Perdomo who research DNA as their field. Mrs, sends out latest information occasionally. She said that they are now looking at J1 and J2 as the only source of Jews (Israel) and the R1b1 group and others that have Jews in them are possibly converts to Judaism. Please pardon me, but that sounded so peculiar to me for several reasons:Â 1. There are so many in Europe and I really doubt that there has been more converts to Judaism then what 12 tribes could produce. 2. If there are more changes on the R1b1 and this turns out to be a real sign of it being first then we must arrange the data another way to see if we get another story that might be just as probable.
Therefore, I started thinking about what are some of the indications of R1b1 being the oldest? Several things started me thinking this way:
1. When I read that King Tut was an R1b which was the same one that both my Father and Mother have, I began to think this might be proof that it was first. Now what does my haplo group have to do with it. My mother's father is a Becher and they have the Ha in front of that. Grandpa always call them a tribe but actually they were a clan in Israel as the book of Number gives it. They assimilated in 1400s and nearly all their Jewishness is gone except for a few small things. It is not common for Christians or people in the Gentile world to exclaim through the day, 'Bless God'. But Grandpa did and now that I have joined the family in memory of all the Habeckers, I hear 'Bruch Hashem' ["Blessed by God" a common greeting in Hebrew] again often during the day. They didn't know they were of Israel, but the suspicion laid beneath the surface as my mother said only once when I brought it up, I wondered about this too.
2. If R1b was first and king Tut really did have that haplo group because maybe the sample was not contaminated as some Europeans thought, because they just couldnt explain it, then there is a reason for this. First of all we know King Tut was one and maybe the last of the Hyskos kings who were Hebrews. Therefore, it is possible that Shem was an R and as various things happen a 1 could be added to that, then a b so that by the time we get to Ever we have an R1b and this would produce all Hebrews at this point and other Hebrews would depart as various things happen to the diverging family. Therefore, the Hebrews that go to Egypt, including Abraham have the same DNA. Now Abraham has many more encounters with God and the God factor will bring more diversification. Perhaps all the brothers have this DNA code but then various things start happening to different brothers and their families. For instance, when they are all at the foot of the mountain, all do not go up and sit in God's presence. Only Aaron, who is quite old, the sons of which only two survive and the elders. We don't know which of the elders had children after their encounter on the mountain. This however, may have made the difference between their DNA diversifying from the others and we are calling it a J which became J1 and J2. There was enough intermarriage to spread that through out the population, especially those who were not of the priestly line and more probably in Judah.
Time and events would further diversify the R1b in to some of the other haplo groups that the DNA of Jews are found to have.
I believe the blessing of Abraham and the promises of God to bring the people's descendants back that heard the words of Moses before he died would produce many more descendants than we can calculate and they would be survivors even with all the persecution and death that the nations have put the Hebrew through. Even though Abraham produced many Gentiles nations as well, they would be blessed as well. Therefore, most of the people in the world today probably have a tinge of Abraham in them even if they are not Jews nor ever will be Jews. Therefore, some of the R1b1 may be of Abraham, but not Jews.
DNA sorting can be a very complex exercise, but it also can tell a story if we let it, so the research must go on.

3. A Rabbinical "Prophecy" Concerning Russia and Turkey
Alex Zephyr wrote:
                                       Hello Yair,
Could you help me out with this: Rabbi Eliyahu of Vilna, Rabbi Elijah
ben Shlomo Zalman (1720-1797) known as the Gra, or the "Vilna Gaon,"
predicted, "When you hear that the Russians have captured the city of
Crimea, you should know that the times of the Messiah have started,
that his steps are being heard. And when you hear that the Russians
have reached the city of Constantinople [today's Istanbul], you should
put on your Shabbat clothes and don't take them off, because it means
that the Messiah is about to come any minute."Â Â Â It sounds as an amazing prophecy.
But the Sages said that since the
destruction of the Temple, Biblical prophecy has ceased. So I got a
little skeptical and found out that the Crimea was annexed by the Russian
Empire from the Ottomans in 1783. The Vilna Gaon died in 1797. He knew of
this fact for some 14 years. The political situation of this time was
such that the war between Ottoman Empire and Russia was expected and
immanent, it was not hard to predict. And indeed it started in 1853 to
1856. But Constantinople was not taken then. Will it be taken by
Russia in the future? Remains to be seen. What do you think?

Brit-Am Reply: Shalom,
The "prophecy" you mentioned is frequently quoted.
The version recorded in the writings of the Vilna Gaon's students' is as follows:
http://ruchoshelmashiach.blogspot.co.il/
"When the Russian ships cross the Dardanelles, it is already time to don Sabbath garments."
I think the words about the Crimea may not have been in the original.
Prophecy has ceased but towards the End times it will be renewed.
cf.
Joel 2:
28 It will come about after this
           That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind;
And your sons and daughters will prophesy,
Your old men will dream dreams,
Your young men will see visions.
29 Even on the male and female servants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days.
We have not yet reached that stage. Nevertheless apart from Prophecy we do have inspiration and guided intuition.
We all have experience in a small way something along those lines. Usually however it is something that we cannot be certain about
until it actually comes to pass, as you say.
