Please help Sort out confusion
 
Hi, my name is  S and I recently met some folks that have totally changed our lives around (absolutely wonderful) They also told me about you (which is wonderful too) Rather than give so much details about my life's journey to this point, I would like you to help me clear up a teaching these people teach. One side note, I am studying biblical Hebrew with an Orthodox Jew and I ask him the question I am about to ask you.
 
What does the word sorcery mean biblically?
 These people teach that according to the Greek bible and the Greek Septuagint the word Pharmakon (English: pharmacy), Pharmakeia (English: Pharmaceutical) means witchcraft and sorcery. (See Galatians 5:19-21, rev 18:23, exo 7:11-12, nah 3) strong 5331, witchcraft & sorcery same word in 2kings 9:22, mic 5:12, isa 47:9,12. Why does this read this way Greek vs Hebrew?
 
Basically they are completely against all forms of doctors and medicine, be-it nature doctors and supplements or herbs, vision doctors and dentists included. No visiting any doctor or any reason ever period! Even if death awaits you (removing all medicines diabetes for example) that's a punishment or consequence for past living and we are to put our complete trust in Him for healing.
 
By the way, my Hebrew teacher told me the meaning of sorcery has nothing to do with going to see a doctor and that 'sorcery is a person trying to be like and the like, with astrology and such.... We are to take care of our bodies and maintain our health and if that includes doctors than yes go...'
 
Please speak to this and help us understand and sort out this confusion.

Your query involved two separate issues:

(1. What is witchcraft?

Deuteronomy 18:
10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer,
 
Deuteronomy 18:
14 For those nations, which you shall dispossess, listen to those who practice witchcraft and to diviners, but as for you, the Lord your God has not allowed you to do so.
 
Exodus 22:
18 You shall not allow a sorceress to live. 

Roughly speaking,
Witchcraft involves an attempt to use spiritual forces other than those sanctioned by God in the Bible.
This especially applies to the use of ceremonies or rituals etc., and that the spiritual forces be negative and outside of oneself.

(2. Is medicine permitted?
The people who told you not to use doctors sound like quacks BUT we do not know them and the circumstances may be different.
At all events,
Medicine and healing by doctors is permitted by the Bible.
This does not mean we should blindly obey the doctors in every matter but we can use them.
The Hebrew Bible speaks of Doctors and healing.

Exodus 21:
19 if he gets up and walks around outside on his staff, then he who struck him shall go unpunished; he shall only pay for his loss of time, and  shall take care of him until he is completely healed. 

The expression translated as "until he is completely healed" in Hebrew is "Rofai Yirapai" meaning literally "the doctor shall effect healing."
 
From here it was learnt that a Doctor has the right and the ability to heal others.
 
On the other hand one should trust God;  also:

Exodus 15:
 26 And He said, 'If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the Lord, am your healer.'
 
2-Chronicles 16:12
12 In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa became diseased in his feet. His disease was severe, yet even in his disease he did not seek the Lord, but the physicians.
