1. Will The Copper Altar Hidden on the Temple Mount Be Discovered?
Michael Greenwood wrote:
Re: Copper Altar? Where is it located most likely?
Ezekiel 9:2 And, behold, six men were coming from the way of the Upper Gate, which faces north. And each had his shattering weapon in his hand. And one man among them was clothed in linen, and an ink horn of a scribe at his loins. And they went in and stood beside the copper altar (Bronze Altar also)
Is this Copper Altar in the "Holy of Holies"?
Thx, Mike

What was the Bronze ("Copper') Altar?
Copper and Bronze
The word translated as Copper in Hebrew is "nichoshet."
Many consider that in Scripture by "nichoshet" Bronze is really meant. Bronze is an alloy of mainly copper, about 12% tin, and other metals.
[Similarly brass is an alloy of copper and zinc.]
Bronze has advantages over purer copper. It is more resistant to corrosion.
Bronze
Wikipedia
# In the Bronze Age, two forms of bronze were commonly used: "classic bronze", about 10% tin, was used in casting; and "mild bronze", about 6% tin, was hammered from ingots to make sheets. Bladed weapons were mostly cast from classic bronze, while helmets and armor were hammered from mild bronze.
# Commercial bronze (90% copper and 10% zinc) and architectural bronze (57% copper, 3% lead, 40% zinc) are more properly regarded as brass alloys because they contain zinc as the main alloying ingredient. They are commonly used in architectural applications.
The Copper Altar and the Tabernacle
When the Israelites journeyed in the Wilderness they used a Tabernacle. The tabernacle was a portable edifice whose piece could be taken apart, transported elsewhere, and put together again.
After the Israelites entered the land of Canaan the Tabernacle was replaced by the Temple.
The tabernacle used a Bronze Altar. The bronze Altar was the main and largest altar. It stood just OUTSIDE of Ohel Moed (Ten of Congregation i.e. main building) as distinct from the much smaller gold altar which was placed just inside it.
The Bronze Altar was a hollow bronze construction that could be carried around by poles placed at it sides. When in use this hollow bronze shell would be filled up with earth.
When the Temple was built King Solomon took the bronze altar along with all the rest of the Tabernacle and hid them in one of the numerous tunnels, or caves, under the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
Presumably they are still there.
The "bronze (or "copper") altar" referred to in Ezekiel 9:2 is, according to Rashi quoting the Sages, a euphemism for the altar of stone that stood in the Temple grounds.
Perhaps it is a prophetic message?
Will the Tabernacle, including the bronze altar, be uncovered from its hiding place on the Temple Mount and incorporated in a rebuilt Third Temple?

2. Comment to a Proposed Christian Calendar in Place of the Rabbinical One.
Reply to NW.
This Calendar [proposed by a Chrisitian "Ephraimite" type enthusiast] is a recent invention of human beings. It you find it inconvenient or no longer convincing you will change it for another.Â
The self-presumed neo-Karaite, N. Gordon, is also once again changing his calendar.
I guess some people need to keep themselves occupied.
Your people will not accept the Jewish Calendar because that would mean recognition of the Jews.
Fair enough.
Perhaps it is better this way?

3. Is it Worthwhile to Take a DNA test?
Norman B. Willis wrote:
Dear Yair,
My dad always used to say we had Jewish blood, but I never saw any pedigree. Is it worth having the test done? Or is it an unnecessary expense?
Brachot and chag sameach.

It can cost a few hundred dollars. And that is just a beginning. You may well find yourself wanting to do more tests and putting out more money.
Nevertheless,
In my opinion a DNA test is worth doing ESPECIALLY if you follow up on it, i.e. use the results to see with whom you may be related.
BUT
do not put too much emphasis on it. And do not have high expectations.
A DNA text CANNOT PROVE whether or not you have Jewish blood but it may indicate a probability (or lack of it) in that direction.
Also be cautioned,
A lot of Jews take DNA tests and release the results to the public domain.
Jews take DNA tests to a disproportional degree consequently there exists a disproportionate chance of finding Jewish relations.
For example Jews may be only 1% of the population but if they comprise 10% of those tested then they will have 10 times more samples per head of population.
A Gentile would therefore have a ten times greater chance of finding Jewish DNA similar to his own.
If your DNA results show that you have similar results to ten Jews and 90 Gentiles it could mean (when adjusted proportionally) the same as if it was the same as one Jew and 99 Gentiles!

These pictures are worth looking at.
They were not as easy to come by as I thought they would be.

5. Succot [Tabernacles] Coming up
From sunset 16 October to sunset October 24 is Succoth and Shemini Atseret in the Land of Israel.
[Jews who live permanently outside of Israel are obliged by an extra day.]Â
During this time our operation will be operating at a very low level, if at all.
We will be receiving e-mails, book orders, offerings, perhaps meet up with people in Jerusalem, and perhaps not.
We are unlikely to be sending out any posts during this time though if we have to, we will.
We may, or may not, send out one more posting before Succot.
