1. Query. Was there any difference between the Hebrews and the Habiru?
Moses Ojo:Â
Good after sir. I want you to help me differentiate between HABIRU and HEBREWS.
 Regards,
Moses Ojo

Brit-Am Reply:
Shalom,
The Habiru were a people who once existed in the area of Israel and the Middle East. It has been suggested that they were the originally Hebrews.
The names Habiru and Hebrew sound and look similar in English Transliteration.
Habiru however is a transliteration from the Akkadian language which was the lingua franca of the ancient Middle East.
The term 'Hebrew' is a transliteration from the Hebrew. The original prototypes may not have been that similar to each other.
Personally we now do tend to think that the Habiru really were the same as the Hebrews. Others have suggested as much long before us.
Nevertheless it is not necessary so.
Based on Semitic tongues it may be that the term Habiru is derived from a root HaBeR (better transliterated as CH-aV-R) meaning 'union'. The Habiru were therefore groups of people who had banded together.
The word Hebrew on the other hand may be derived from a root 'A-B-R' meaning 'over, other' and perhaps applied to someone who came 'from Over the Other side' or who wandered 'all over.'Â There may be no connection between the two terms Habiru and Hebrew.
OR it may be that Habiru is not derived from 'HaBeR' but is similarly another way of writing 'A-B-R' i.e. Hebrew?
There is evidence to support both propositions.

2. Did all the Tribes return with the Jews from Babylon?
Query:
Hello Yair.
I am having dialogue with a Jewish man who says that the tribes returned in the time of Nehemiah and they are not lost and they are back in the land, I'm finding it very hard to convince him that he is wrong and that he needs to do further research. Could you help me at all with this I've suggested that he visit your site but he's really stubborn so I have to just keep chipping away at him, have you any ideas or advice which may help me reach this man.
Kind regards
Barbara

Brit-Am Reply:
First the Ten Tribes were all exiled in several stages. They were taken to various parts of the Assyrian Empire.
The Ten tribes were taken away. The Kingdom of Judah remained.
The Assyrians were defeated by the Scythians, Medes and Babylonians. The Medes and Babylonians divided the Middle Eastern section of the Assyrian Empire between them.
The Babylonians conquered Judah and exiled the Jews to Babylon. The Persians (who had replaced the Medes) conquered the Babylonioans. They allowed the Jews to return.
The Jews came back and began to rebuild Judah. Ezra and Nehemiah were the major leaders of the Jews when returning.
The idea that all the Tribes returned with Ezra and Nehemiah is a common misconception.
It is true that representatives of ALL the Tribes were to be found among those who returned.Â
Even so, members of the other Tribes (apart from Judah, Benjamin, and Levi) who came back with Nehemiah were small minorities.
Nachmanides discussed this.
In the Books of Ezra and Nehemiah are found lists of the families who returned to the Land of Israel from Babylon.
ONLY families from the Tribes of Judah, Benjamin, and Levi are mentioned.
The Lost Ten Tribes as far as Scripture is concerned were ALL exiled and disappeared.
See:
The Completeness of the Exile
http://www.britam.org/CompleteExile.html
Extract::
There is however a tradition that amongst the present Jewish People there were always representatives of all the Twelve Tribes.
The overwhelming majority however were from the Tribes of Judah, Benjamin, and Levi. There was also a minority from the other tribes.
Nachmanides (1194-1270):
"Those from the Tribes of Ephraim and Shimeon from Israel that were present with Judah were they who dwelt in the Land of Judah or perhaps to some degree also those who had dwelt in their own territories adjoining Judah and had fled to Judah. They are referred to in a general sense as from Israel [in 2-Chronicles 35:18] and not by their specific tribes since they represented only a small portion of their tribe. These are they who returned under Ezra with the Jews from Babylon. They were not expressly mentioned by their tribes since they were attached to Judah. They all settled in the cities of Judah. There was no Redemption for the Ten Tribes who remained in exile"
Book of Redemption (Sefer HaGeulah).

3. Quora Question: Jared and Ivanka and Keeping Shabat?
Why is J. Kushner considered an Orthodox Jew (by news outlets), when he does not wear a hat (even a fedora) and travels on the Sabbath?
https://www.quora.com/Why-is-J-Kushner-considered-an-Orthodox-Jew-by-news-outlets-when-he-does-not-wear-a-hat-even-a-fedora-and-travels-on-the-Sabbath/answer/Yair-Davidiy
===============================
Answer by Yair Davidiy:
The head-covering is not really mandatory though we now usually take it to be.
Concerning Shabat:
Presumably he is driven by others (again we assume by a non-Jew) and does not drive himself.
If his presence is required for a decision or advice on a matter that has the slightest chance of involving the saving of life then there is no problem.
All reports of Jared and Ivanka traveling on Shabat were concerned with matters of state and not of pleasure.
The presence of Ivanka, alongside Jared, due to the circumstances might also have been of importance.
So too, a doctor can allow himself to be driven to hospital or to drive himself when there is no other option.
In fact if he does not do so he would be considered a transgressor.
A more technical answer of interest is provided by Daniel Freedman:

Malachi 3:
10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
That there may be food in My house,
And try Me now in this,
Says the LORD of hosts,
'If I will not open for you the windows of heaven
And pour out for you such blessing
That there will not be room enough to receive it.
Proverbs 3:
9 Honor the LORD with your wealth
and with the first of all your produce,
10 so your barns will be filled with abundance,
and your vats will burst open with new wine.

Most subscribers to our list are not Jewish.
They have their own beliefs.
On matters fundamental to themselves (and to us) we may be in disagreement.
Nevertheless our message concerns them.
We hope to bring this message to others like them and also to Judah.
The message is important to both parties.
It is also important to us.
We have information and the means to deliver it that shows where the Ten Tribes now are.
We work at this and will continue (God willing) to do so.
In many things concerning Ten Tribes and research about them we have been proven correct.
No outside body supports us.
We keep going through selling our publications: These at the moment are not really selling but things may change.
We also receive contributions i.e. offerings. This keeps the operation functional though it is not always easy.
We need financial assistance to maintain everything and do what should be done.
If we did not need it we would not ask and perhaps that is why we now need it?
Brit-Am/Hebrew Nations is a good deal, has good information, and worthwhile achievements and the potential to do much more.
Please do what you can.
This message is being sent out to everybody.
They who cannot do anything at the moment do not have to explain.
They who can help are asked to do so.
