2. Daniel Ben Omri: Belief in Ten Tribes Origins from Former Times
Daniel Ben Omri sent us a message:
Here are some extracts relevant to Brit-Am:
According to Brackney (2012) and Fine (2015), the French Hugenot magistrate M. le Loyer's The Ten Lost Tribes, published in 1590, provided the first expression that "Anglo-Saxon, Celtic, Scandinavian, Germanic, and associated cultures" were direct descendants of the ancient Israelites.
Anglo-Israelism has also been attributed to Francis Drake and James VI and I, who believed he was the King of Israel.
Adriaan van Schrieck (1560-1621), who influenced Henry Spelman (1562-1641) and John Sadler (1615-1674), wrote in the early 17th century about his ideas on the origins of the Celtic and Saxon peoples.
In 1649, Sadler published The Rights of the Kingdom, "which argues for an 'Israelite genealogy for the British people'".
Aspects of British Israelism and its influences have also been traced to Richard Brothers' A Revealed Knowledge of the Prophecies and Times in 1794, John Wilson's Our Israelitish Origin (1840s), and John Pym Yeatman's The Semitic Origin of the Nations of Western Europe (1879).
An older record is found in the Scottish Declaration of Independence signed in the year 1320. The Declaration of Arbroath (6 April 1320) appealed to Pope John XXII for recognition of Scotland's status as an independent, sovereign state and asserted its right to use military action when considered unjustly attacked. It was sealed by fifty-one magnates and nobles.
It says:
'Most holy Father and Lord, we know and gather from ancient acts and records, that in every famous nation this of Scotland hath been celebrated with many praises: This nation having come from Scythia the greater, through the Tuscan Sea and the Hercules Pillars, and having for many ages taken its residence in Spain in the midst of a most fierce people, could never be brought in subjection by any people, how barbarous so ever: And having removed from these parts, above 1,200 years after the coming of the Israelites out of Egypt, did by many victories and much toil obtain these parts in the West which they still possess, having expelled the Britons and entirely rooted out the Picts, notwithstanding of the frequent assaults and invasions they met with from the Norwegians, Danes, and English; And these parts and possessions they have always retained free from all manner of servitude and subjection, as ancient histories do witness.'
In the 1600s the Scottish Presbyterians were the majority party in Scotland. They felt their very existence was threatened by the High Church and Roman-leaning tendencies of the monarchy and aristocracy. A National Covenant was drawn up declaring amongst other things that, "this only is the true Christian faith and religion" It was signed by many Scotsmen, possibly by most heads of households in the country. The wording of the National Covenant to our mind does not say much but in its time, it meant a lot. The Whole Concept derives from the Bible and of the Covenant made between God and HIS People. The Scottish were declaring themselves to be the Chosen People by virtue of their religion.
They were not however saying that they had replaced the Jews but rather that they should be ranked alongside them!
Wikipedia tells us:
'Reverence for the tenets of Judaism was a hallmark of 17th century fundamentalist Protestant thinking when the National Covenant of 1638 seemed to set the seal on the belief that by returning to the "true religion" at the Reformation the Scots had become a chosen people.'
"Scotland, whom our Lord took off the dunghill and out of hell and made a fair bride to Himself... He will embrace both [of] us, the little young sister, and the elder sister, the Church of the Jews. " (Rev. Samuel Rutherford)
Here too the Scottish are being identified as a brother nation or rather a sister nation to the Jews. Note also that the Scottish Hebraic National Consciousness was also reflected in the once-widespread taboo against eating swine and other unclean animals. They also after conversion to Christianity kept Saturday as the sabbath and was actually persecuted by the church at large for being Judaizers.
As for the people of the land of Ireland they are called the people of Eerie and even have a famous lake named after the original name for the land they settled, called lake eerie. These peoples are from the tribe of Gad as seen in scripture.
The sons of Gad: Zephon, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi and Areli. (Gen 46:16)
