(a) Jon Bohmer
Norway is an incredibly resource rich country, paired with a similarly resourceful population who has been able to exploit these resources. Finally, we have had a politically stable environment to build and share this wealth.
From the Viking age, we have had a ship-building industry based on ample forests and impressive shipbuilding skills.
The long coast has always offered vast amounts of fish of the highest quality, which today is also farmed and exported world wide.
When electricity arrived, we were able to build hydropower plants, which then laid the foundation for a leadership role in many power-hungry industries such as aluminum.
And most recently, the discovery of oil and gas off our coast triggered an unparalleled expertise in deep-water exploration.
With the recent low oil prices, we have accelerated our already world leading position in fish farming, particularly salmon. Having the longest coast line in Europe will also enable other promising marine sectors such as seaweed farming for food, medical and fish feed.
The constant factor across these ages has been the resilience and ingenuity of Norwegian entrepreneurs and engineers.
But since our output is mostly high quality commodities, we do not have the famous global consumer brand names developed by our Swedish and Danish neighbours.

Norwegians are well organised, reliable and concentrated on whatever they do. And since some decades, the country has petrol from its offshore oilriggs. And most of the money made there is entered into a reserve fond. Only less than 4 percent are used do develope the countries assets, education and infrastructure like new tunnels, bridges, highways, harbours etc. Aditionaly each district is higly selfsufficient as much as possible. Very slim bureaucracy and administration also save money and effords. Norwegians also live a healthy live (hardly anybody for example is overweight, Norwegians smoke the least in Europe) which also saves lots of money on health care

If the Nazis were disappointed in the Dutch fighting back against the invasion in 1940, why did they still treat us so nicely afterwards - compared to other invaded countries?

The German's had no problem with the Dutch army resisting the Wehrmacht during the invasion on May 1940. They regarded the resistance of the Dutch armed forces as an honorable fight. My mother who lived in Groningen near the border of Holland - Germany, has seen it happen.
The German soldiers marched singing past with flowers in their gun barrels. They told the Dutch citizens they invaded the Netherlands in order to prevent an English invasion. The resistance they encountered, was due the fact that we received incorrect information from the treacherous Dutch gouvernement.
The Wehrmacht had been given the express instruction to treat the Dutch people with the most respect because of the alleged racial qualities they hoped to find. To show their good wil, the soldiers and officers of the Dutch army were sent home after their surrender and not interned as prisoners of war.
This was decided in advance by the SS--Rasse und Siedlungshauptamt ( RuSHA), (Race and settlement main office) in Berlin. The SS - Reichsfuhrer Heinrich Himmler had personally taken care of this. The intention was to use the genetic 'material' which they were mainly looking at in the Northern part of the Netherlands, in particular Friesland, to come to a pure Aryan breed, die neue Mensch.. the new man.
As a result, the Netherlands became the only country in occupied Europe to be subject to a SS - regime. This was also one of the reasons the Jewish population was disproportionately affected by the Nazi terror. After Nazi-Germany had won the war, the intention was to rename the Netherlands 'Westmark'. Fully employed by the SS.
