1. New Word of possible Hebrew Origin: CLOAK
Medieval Latin: clocca (bell, travelers' cape).
Old French: cloque, cloche (bell, cloak).
Middle English: cloke.
English: "cloak".
Definition (Google):
A cloak is a type of loose garment worn over clothing, mostly but not always as outerwear for outdoor wear, which serves the same purpose as an overcoat.
The first known use of "cloak" in English was in the 1200S CE.

Possible Derivation:
Hebrew, "Halook," pronounced by Ashkenazim as "C-halook" meaning overgarment, or cloak.

2. Query from "Celtic Israelite" re Israelite Origin and descent from King David.

Dear Brit-Am,

I'm writing from Tampa, Florida, USA. It has recently come to my attention that there is widespread belief that the Irish and Scottish peoples come from the lost tribes of Israel, specifically the north kingdom after the Assyrian take over in 722 BCE pushed these peoples out into Scythia. I am of Scottish, Irish and British ancestry.

Several years ago, my uncle discovered that we are traced back to King David (I have just asked for his documentation so I can see for myself).

I am Writing to you today to ask for your help in finding additional resources and documentation supporting these claims. How would someone like me prove or disprove my ancestry link to one of the lost 10 tribes of Israel?

For more information concerning possible ancestral relationship to the Lost Ten Tribes of Israel, or to Judah, see some of the numerous articles on our websites (www.britam.org, www.hebrewnations.com) and/or buy some of our books and read them.
We cannot absolutely assure the genealogy of anyone BUT in most cases we may indicate a high probability taking all sources into account.
Concerning descent from King David we are less certain.
It may be based on legends that are only of recent origin and are unreliable.
On the other hand, it was prophesied that David would have numerous descendants so you never know.

Jeremiah (TCT) 33:
17 FOR SO SAID THE LORD: THERE SHALL NOT BE CUT OFF FROM DAVID A MAN SITTING ON THE THRONE OF THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL.

18 AND OF THE LEVITIC PRIESTS, THERE SHALL NOT BE CUT OFF FROM BEFORE ME A MAN OFFERING UP A BURNT OFFERING, OR BURNING A MEAL-OFFERING OR PERFORMING A SACRIFICE FOR ALL TIME.

3. Appeal. "What Needs to be Done!"

Help us do what needs to be done.
Brit-Am proves that descendants of the Lost Ten Tribes are now to be found among Western Peoples.
They need to know this. It needs to be made known.
The English-speaking nations in our time are especially important since they represent the leading Tribes of Joseph, Ephraim and Manasseh.
A Midrash indicates that elements from the Tribe of Manasseh will be the first to return.
Brit-Am uses Biblical Sources alongside Rabbinical Ones together with Secular Evidence.
We show how they all intertwine and supplement each other.
The Jews are Judah and they too need to know who the Lost Ten Tribes are.
Brit-Am can help in this and has already begun to do so.
In some fields our researches have led us to depart from the conventionally accepted appreciation of history.
Brit-Am has often proven itself in this regard.
At present we are in the course of making public a revolutionary new understanding of the past confirming our identifications.
All this requires effort and study and Divine Guidance.
Even if we were to be mistaken on some points the overall message would still be correct.

We work full-time in this field and we get results.
We have uncovered new fields of research proving the Lost Ten Tribes to be among Western Peoples.
We want to do this. It very much interests and concerns us and we feel obliged to do it.
No-body is funding us apart from  a few volunteers who send us offerings and donations.
Due to them we are enabled to function at a basic level.
We need more and we need to do more.
Help us more.
Our list is, relatively speaking, quite small and it is most (almost all) of what we have.
We need to keep badgering the list since that is all we have and we need to do what we are doing.
This helps us get by and meet some of our obligations.
We need more.
We are doing more and there is more to do.

I have not seen the study (concerning French Canadians) but I did see a previous work co-authored by the author concerning the Scottish, "When Scotland Was Jewish."
It may have had some redeeming points. On the whole however we thought it was much less than it  had claimed to be.

Nevertheless, anything like this could be worth while if it encourages interest and has some valid points.

Abstract
The Spanish Inquisition in 1492 resulted in the deaths of thousands of Spanish Jews and the exile of around 150,000. The Huguenots and Acadians who settled in Colonial French Canada are assumed to be of Christian faith and ancestry. To support this hypothesis, the researcher uses a novel combination of methods drawn from historical records and artifacts, genealogies and DNA testing. In recent years, this combination of methods has led to the discovery that several of the Plymouth Colony settlers, Central Appalachian Colonial settlers, and Roanoke Colony settlers were of Sephardic Jewish origin. Thus, using the new methodology of ancestral DNA tracing, the researcher document that the majority of Huguenot and Acadian colonists in French Canada were of Sephardic Jewish ancestry. They are most likely descended from Sephardic Jews who fled to France from the Iberian Peninsula in the late 1300s and early 1500s. The researcher additionally proposes that some members of both groups continued to practice Judaism in the new world, thus becoming secret Jews or crypto-Jews. The researcher also finds evidence of Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry in both groups.
