1. Beginning
http://www.britam.org/messiah/messiah1.html
The Essence of Creation entailed a Future Redemption. At some time that is still to come there will arise a Redeemer. This is the Messiah (Anointed One). He will be a descendant of David, He will at first save Judah and bring them to repent. Then he will save the Ten Tribes, and after that all of mankind. He shall reform humanity.

2. The Messiah son of David in Prophecy
To understand who the Messiah is in the Bible we need to consider as one whole the concepts Messiah son of David, the Messiah in general, and the Messianic Age. In addition we even should take into consideration the notion of the Messiah son of Joseph, who is a different entity.
For the sake of convenience, and future reference, however we shall discuss each heading separately. This present article will discuss the aspect of Messiah being a descendant of David.
===============================
(1) The Prediction of Jacob: The Coming of Shiloh.
David was the son of Jesse, from the Tribe of Judah. It had been prophesied that a future universal ruler of Israel would come from Judah.
Genesis 49
10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah,
Nor a lawgiver from between his feet,
Until Shiloh comes;
And to Him shall be the ingathering of the peoples.

(2) Seed of Jesse Father of David
Isaiah spoke much of the Messiah and of the Messianic Era. David was the son of Jesse and where "the seed of Jesse" and like expressions are mentioned in Prophecy the intention is to the Messiah son of David. In the passages below (Isaiah 11:1-10) we find the Descendant of Jesse, i.e. the Messiah son of David, described as one who will bring an age of justice and righteousness to all the world which he will rule from the "Holy Mountain" (Isaiah 11:9) in Jerusalem.
Isaiah (NASB) 11:
1 Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse,
And a branch from his roots will bear fruit.
2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him,
The spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The spirit of counsel and strength,
The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.
3 And he will delight in the fear of the LORD,
And he will not judge by what his eyes see,
Nor make a decision by what his ears hear;
4 But with righteousness he will judge the poor,
And decide with fairness for the afflicted of the earth;
And he will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,
And with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.
5 Also righteousness will be the belt about his loins,
And faithfulness the belt about his waist.
6 And the wolf will dwell with the lamb,
And the leopard will lie down with the young goat,
And the calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
And a little boy will lead them.
7 Also the cow and the bear will graze,
Their young will lie down together,
And the lion will eat straw like the ox.
8 The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra,
And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper's den.
9 They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain,
For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD
As the waters cover the sea.
10 Then in that day
The nations will resort to the root of Jesse,
Who will stand as a signal for the peoples;
And His resting place will be glorious.

(3) The Seed of David through Solomon will always have the right to rule.
David had at least six wives and quite a few sons. Most of them probably had descendants. Solomon was only one of them. Nevertheless the Promise to David said that his inheritance would pass through Solomon.
1-Chronicles 22:
9 Behold, a son will be born to you, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel in his days. 10 He shall build a house for My name, and he shall be My son and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.
2-Chronicles 7:
18 then I will establish your royal throne as I covenanted with your father David, saying, 'You shall not lack a man to be ruler in Israel.'
===============================
(4) A Future Righteous Branch of David
Jeremiah tells us of a "Branch of David" meaning the Messiah who will bring Justice and judgment to the earth (Jeremiah 33:15) though his main concern will be for Judah and Jerusalem (Jeremiah 33:16). The House of David will reign forever (Jeremiah 33:17).
Jeremiah 33:
15 In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch of David to spring forth; and He shall execute justice and righteousness on the earth. 16 In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will dwell in safety; and this is the name by which she will be called: the LORD is our righteousness. 17 For thus says the LORD, David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel;18 and the Levitical priests shall never lack a man before Me to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings and to prepare sacrifices continually.

(5) Delivery of Zion and Jerusalem: The Messiah comes first to the Jews!
Zechariah 9:
9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
He is just and endowed with salvation,
Humble, and mounted on a donkey,
Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

(6) The Messiah son of David delivers both Judah and Israel
Jeremiah 23:
5 Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD,
When I will raise up for David a righteous Branch;
And He will reign as king and act wisely
And do justice and righteousness in the land.
6 In His days Judah will be saved,
And Israel will dwell securely;
And this is His name by which He will be called,
The LORD our righteousness.
7 Therefore behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when they will no longer say, As the LORD lives, who brought up the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt, 8 but, As the LORD lives, who brought up and led back the descendants of the household of Israel from the north land and from all the countries where I had driven them. Then they will live on their own soil.

(7) Israel (i.e. The Ten Tribes) will seek the Messiah son of David "their king"
Hosea speaks much about the Ten Tribes.
Hosea 3:
5 afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall come trembling unto the LORD and to His goodness in the end of days.
There is a Midrash (Midrash Shmuel 13, Yalkut Shimeoni-2, remez 106, Rashi on Hosea 3:5) based on verses in Hosea chapter 3 that says that when Israel returns to seek God, the Temple, and the Kingdom of David then the Redemption will come. From the context the exiled Ten Tribes are being referred to. They are the ones that have to make this search!
