Names of Hebrew Ancestors as Indicators of Descent
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Hebrew-Iberi
Brit-Am traces peoples in the British Isles and in parts of Western Europe and their offshoots in the USA, etc, to the Lost Ten Tribes of Israel.
We use proofs from numerous sources.
One of the 100s of Proofs we employ is the continued application of ancient ethnic names found in the Bible to the peoples in question.
The Ancient Israelites were known as Hebrews.
The first Hebrew was Abraham who begat Isaac who begat Jacob who was also known as Israel.
Genesis (NASB) 14:
13 Then a fugitive came and told Abram the Hebrew. Now he was living by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner, and these were allies with Abram.
Jacob (Israel) begat 12 sons who became the 12 Tribes of Israel.
Joseph was one of the sons of Israel.
He is referred to as an Hebrew, Genesis 39:14, 17, 41:12
Joseph says,
"For I was in fact kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews" (Genesis 40:15).
Joseph and his brothers are referred to as "Hebrews."
"the Egyptians could not eat bread with the Hebrews, for that is loathsome to the Egyptians" (Genesis 43:32).
Throughout the Bible the term "Hebrew" is synonymous with Israelite,
Exodus 1:15, 16, 19, 2:6, 7, 11, 13, 3:8, 5:3, 7:6, 9:1, 13, 10:3, 21:2, Deuteronomy 15:12.
"I AM AN HEBREW; AND I FEAR THE LORD, THE GOD OF HEAVEN, WHICH HATH MADE THE SEA AND THE DRY LAND" (Jonah 1:9).
The word Hebrew in the Hebrew language is pronounced as "IVRI" but it can be transcribed as "Ibri" it is based on the root "AVR" connoting "pass over."
The English words "other" and "over" are probably also derived from this word root.
The early settlers of the British Isles and of most of western Europe were known as "Celts."
They did not call themselves "Celts."
The closest thing they had as an ethnic name for themselves was "IBERI." This is a form of the word for Hebrew.
Dionysius of Alexandria in Egypt (ca. 190-264 CE) described the inhabitants of Britain as "Iberi." Ptolemy reported that the inhabitants of Britain were merchants and called themselves Iberi. Geoffrey of Monmouth (1100-1155 CE), mentions an early king of Britain named Ebraucus who founded the city of York which was also called "Ebraucus" by the Celts.
# The most common place-name element in Scotland, and one prevalent in Wales and Monmouthshire, is Aber, as in Aberdeen.
Iber and Hiberi were given as ancestors of the Irish Milesians.
Hundreds of places names all over the Celtic world have the "HIBER" root in them.
British Isles:
Eboracensis Comitatus (northeast of Durham in Yorkshire).
Eboracum (York, England).
Hibernia: name for Ireland.
Heber - an ancestral figure in Irish Mythology.
Iberni in southwest Ireland.
Iberni Ocean east of Ireland.
Hebrides: islands off the northwest coast of Scotland, a Celtic region.
The ethnic significance of this name and its Celtic association was discussed by Henri Hubert, "The Rise of the Celts," London, 1934; J. Markale, "Les Celts," Paris, 1970; and F. de Rougement, "L'Age de Bronze," Paris, 1866.
The meaning of this name is disputed. it has been noticed that where the "aber" form of the name is found in Britain that it is often (but not always) associated with a ford or some type of crossing place.
This could reflect the Hebrew source of the name meaning "over."

Isaac
Abraham the Hebrew begat Isaac.
The name Isaac in Hebrew is "Yitschak" though we also find the form "Yishchak." (Jeremiah 33:26, Amos 7:9, 16; Psalms 105:9).
It had been prophesied that the Chosen People would be named after Isaac.
Genesis (NASB) 21:
12 But God said to Abraham, 'Do not be distressed because of the lad and your maid; whatever Sarah tells you, listen to her, for through Isaac your descendants shall be named. '
Ethnic Names given to the Israelite Scythians (Isaac-Gulu, Ishkuza, Zohak, Saca, Sak, Saksin, Saxon) and to the Anglo-Saxons who settled England were derived from the name Isaac.
In Early Medieval histories the Celtic Britons of Lowland Scotland are described as descended from Isacon,

Albanus possessed it; numerous his hosts.
He was the illustrious son of Isacon.

Jacob
Isaac begat Jacob.
The name Jacob is recalled in the Union Jack of Britain meaning the Uniting of Jacob, and in the nickname "Yanki" which is short for Jacob. The Ten Tribes in the End Times are referred to in connection with the raising up the Tribes of Jacob (Isaiah 49:6), The flag of Britain is called the UNION JACK (i.e. union or covenant of Jacob) and the nickname Yank or YANKEE for North American derives from a form of the name Jacob.
Isaiah (NASB) 49:
6 He says, 'It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant
To raise up the Tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved ones of Israel;
I will also make You a light of the nations.

Israel
Jacob was also known as Israel:
Genesis (NASB) 32:
28 He said, 'Your name shall no longer be Jacob, but Israel; for you have striven with God and with men and have prevailed.'
Genesis (NASB) 35:
10 God said to him, 'Your name is Jacob; You shall no longer be c alled Jacob, But Israel shall be your name.'
Israel in Hebrew is pronounced as Yisra-el. The name Isru is derived from Israel. Isru was also considered one of the ancestors of the Irish and Scottish according to their own traditions.
Assyrian inscriptions sometimes refer to Israel as "Sirila." (See: "What's in a Name? Neo-Assyrian Designations for the Northern Kingdom and Their Implications for Israelite History and Biblical Interpretation," Brad E. Kelle, Journal of Biblical Literature, Vol. 121, No. 4, Winter, 2002).
In Irish Mythology, the Nemedians, one of their major Ancestral stocks were said to be descendants of Sru, Sera, and Isru. (D'arbois de Jubainville H. "Cycle Mythologie Irlandais et le Mythologie Celtique," Paris, 1884, p.89ff).
These are all forms of the name Israel.

In addition to these names we also have a lost of 70 descendants of the tribes of Israel who went down to Egypt (Geneses 46) and afterwards came back up as separate clans within the Clans.
Many of these names are also found as Tribal names among the ancestors of peoples in western Europe.
