Are the Danes from the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel "The tribe of Dan"? Is that the reason why so many Danes look similar to Jews?
https://www.quora.com/Are-the-Danes-from-the-Ten-Lost-Tribes-of-Israel-The-tribe-of-Dan-Is-that-the-reason-why-so-many-Danes-look-similar-to-Jews/answer/Yair-Davidiy
The Danes are named after the Israelite Tribe of Dan. A significant proportion of the Danish population may descend from Israelites. Whether or not many of them look like Jews is a matter of opinion. After ca. 3000 years of separation, genetic drift, different environmental influences, and possibly some foreign admixture one does not need to find close physical similarities.
As for DNA:

(1) Nationwide Genomic Study in Denmark Reveals Remarkable Population Homogeneity
Denmark presented genomic affinity with primarily neighboring countries with overall resemblance of decreasing weight from Britain, Sweden, Norway, Germany, and France. A Polish admixture signal was detected in Zealand and Funen, and our date estimates coincided with historical evidence of Wend settlements in the south of Denmark.

(2) DNA of the people of Denmark
According to The ALlele FREquency Database, 10.8% of the 102 Danish people studied carry at least one T allele in the R151C (rs1805007) gene where TT usually causes red hair.

(3) Sweeping DNA Survey Highlights Vikings' Surprising Genetic Diversity By Tara Wu
Extracts:
The results showed that Viking identity didn’t always equate to Scandinavian ancestry. Just before the Viking Age (around 750 to 1050 A.D.), for instance, people from Southern and Eastern Europe migrated to what is now Denmark, introducing DNA more commonly associated with the Anatolia region. In other words, writes Kiona N. Smith for Ars Technica, Viking-era residents of Denmark and Sweden shared more ancestry with ancient Anatolians than their immediate Scandinavian predecessors did.
In addition to comparing samples collected at different archaeological sites, the team drew comparisons between historical humans and present-day Danish people. They found that Viking Age individuals had a higher frequency of genes linked to dark-colored hair, subverting the image of the typical light-haired Viking.
“It’s pretty clear from the genetic analysis that Vikings are not a homogenous group of people,” lead author Eske Willerslev, director of the University of Copenhagen’s Center of Excellence GeoGenetics, tells National Geographic. “A lot of the Vikings are mixed individuals.”

It would seem that ALL DNA Findings are due in part to Environment Influence! This does not mean that it cannot tell us a lot concerning heredity and ethnic associations. We just need to find when and where environment kicks in and why it does so at some times and not at others. Nevertheless, just taking DNA at its face value no (3) above relates the Ancestors of the Danish to the region of Anatolia i.e. modern day Turkey, just north of the great Land of Israel! Jewish DNA is closer to modern Anatolian (Turkish) and Kurdish DNA than to any other. There may be something here or there may not. The Vikings came mainly from Denmark, and Norway with some from Sweden. Since as far as is known the Modern Danes and the Danish Vikings are one and the same people their DNA must have changed! The Danes as Vikings also settled on the northeast coast of England, on the east coast of Ireland, and elsewhere. Together with others from Norway they also settled in Normandy in France. After mixing with the locals they gave rise to the Normans who conquered England in 1066.

The Tribe of Dan in the Land of Israel is conventionally considered to have been in two locations. Originally Dan had received its territory in the vicinity of Jaffa on the coast.
The Book of Joshua tells us:
Joshua (KJV) 19: And the coast of the children of Dan went out too little for them: therefore the children of Dan went up to fight against Leshem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and possessed it, and dwelt therein, and called Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father.
The Book of Judges (chapter 18) relates how 600 men from Dan in the south went north and found a place named Laish whose inhabitants lived like Sidonian-Phoenicians. They conquered Laish, wiped out the inhabitants, and renamed the place Dan.
Both versions relate how the inheritance of the children of Dan in the south was either too small for them (Joshua ch.18) or how they had not taken possession of that which had been allocated to them (Judges ch.19). Both tell how the Danites went north seized a city, slew its inhabitants and re-settled it naming it after DAN their father. Nevertheless LESHEM and LAISH were two different places!
"Leshem" means a type of precious stone (both amber and jacinth have been suggested) whereas "Liash" means "a young lion." The place called Leshem and renamed Dan in the Book of Joshua was the site of DAN in Northern Galilee otherwise known as Daphne. On the other hand, LIASH which was also renamed DAN and is recalled in the Book of Judges (ch.19) was identical with LUASH of the DANANU! LUASH was in the region of Smal of Cilicia in modern Southeast Turkey. An Assyrian inscription indicates that the Dananu also ruled over Cyprus.
Eldad HaDani (ca.880 CE) quoted an old legend according to which the Tribe of Dan left the Land of Israel after the Ten Tribes separated themselves from Judah. The Northern Ten Tribes under Jeroboam ben Nebat warred against Judah in the south and so Dan rather than engage in a fratricidal struggle went into voluntary exile. Jewish Rabbinical tradition said that: "In the period of the Judges there were wars and many were exiled among the nations of the world" (HaNatziv, Numbers 24:7).
Nevertheless, most of Dan were taken into exile by the Assyrians. The Tribe of Dan had the habit of naming places they sojourned in after Dan their father.
Some have interpreted the phrase "Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path" (Genesis 49:16) as referring to a Tribal Trait of leaving their namesake everywhere along the path they went just as a snake leaves the trail of his crawling in the dust of the path, e.g. "Mahaneh Dan" (i.e. Camp of Dan, Judges 18:12), Leshem renamed after Dan their father (Joshua 19:41); and Liash renamed after Dan their father (Judges 18;29). The king of Sma'al in southeast Anatolia on the edge of LUASH (LIASH) called himself "KING of the DANIM" i.e. in Hebrew "King of the Dans." We also have names showing pathways of migrations such as the Rivers Don, Daneister, Danaper, Danube, in the east leading to Denmark. Elements from Dan were also to be found in the British Isles in Celtic times where we find the Rivers Don in the north, the settlement Danum (by the Parisi, as noted by Ptolemy) also in the north, Dannonia in Devon, and the Tribe of Dana in Ireland.
The Tribe of Dan in the land of Israel were seafarers from an early stage:
"Why did DAN remain in ships?" (Judges 6:7) asked the Prophetess Deborah. According to the Midrash Rabah Dan was to be associated with the far north, “whence darkness comes" reminding one of Scandinavia and its long dark winters. The Prophet Ezekiel linked Dan with Javan (i.e. Ionia in west Anatolia or Greece in general) as trading with Phoenician Tyre:
"Dan also and Javan going to and fro occupied in the fairs: bright iron, cassia, and calamus, were in thy market" (Ezekiel 27:19).
The above verse is alternatively translatable (from the Hebrew) as saying:
"Dan and Yavan from Uzzal were your sub-contracting intermediaries, they gave iron manufactured, alloyed, and in bars. They were among your guarantors" (Ezekiel 27:19).
Cilicia in southeast Anatolia was one source of iron and the Dananu were in Cilicia.
The-reminds us of Scandinavia in the Bronze Age with its metallurgical achievements and archaeologically proven associations with the East Mediterranean including Mycenean Greece, Egypt, Cyprus, Anatolia, and Phoenicia. Bronze Age swords from Denmark have been found in Egypt. From the same period, amber from the Scandinavian ambit turned up on Crete. Israelites from Dan were among the inhabitants of the Phoenician city of Tyre (1-Kings 7:13). The Israeli Naval Historian Tsvi Herman ("Amin, Yamim, Oniot", Hebrew, 1962) said the later Viking longship of Scandinavia was in effect almost identical in both structure and appearance with the Phoenician small long range ship, known to the Greeks as "Hyppo," i.e. the "horse."
Jacob (aka Israel) begat Dan and Naphtali from Bihah the maidservants of Rachel. Samson the heroic strongman of Ancient Israel (Judges chapters 13–16) was from the Tribe of Dan. Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook (1865-1935, Igorot 4:89) said that Dan through Samson represents the aspect of physical strength sanctified for a higher purpose. Israel will have need of this quality in the End Times.
A Midrash states that Samson had a Danite father and a mother from Judah whereas the future Messiah will have a father from Judah and a mother from Dan (Yalkut Shomeoni and Midrash Agada, Buber, on Genesis 49:9). Dan is also listed (in the book “Kol haTor”) as destined to assist the future Messiah Son of Joseph who will lead the Ten Tribes back from Exile and prepare the way for their reunification with Judah, i.e. the Jews.
A contingent from Judah accompanied Dan to southeast Anatolia. They were referred to by the Assyrians as “Yadi” which is the same name the Assyrians had given to Yehudah in the south. They were later exiled by the Assyrians. The Jutes in Denmark dwelt in Jutland. In Nordic dialects the terms "Jew" and "Jute" had the same meaning. In the 1400s CE a Latin chronicle, "Chronicon Holsatiae Vetus," stated that the Danes were of the Tribe of Dan, while the Jutes came from Judah. An English antiquary, Henry Spelman in 1620, also linked the Danes to the Israelite Tribe of Dan. Saxo Grammaticus (1160-1220) in his history of the Danish people, "Gesta Danorum," says that their ancestor was Dan the Great brother of Angle, and son of Humble. In Biblical Hebrew, "Humble" is one of the connotations that may be associated with the name "Jacob."
The name "Dan" in Hebrew derives fromt he word-root "DNH" connoting judgment. This suggests a legalistic frame of mind. The Talmud also associates such an attitude to descent from Dan. An unattributed article assumedly from someone in Denmark gives us soemthing of an insight: "5 Danish traits you should embrace to improve your life” lists the following characteristics of Danish people:
Respect. The Danes are so respectful of other people’s privacy...
Straightforwardness. The Danes cut to the point....
Openness & honesty. The Danes rarely hide their opinion...
Punctuality. ... Appointments are what they mean....meetings must last the minimum necessary time.
Humour. They say that the birthplace of sarcasm is Denmark…
These qualities all reflect the quality of Judgment.

One of my Jewish grandparents, Leo Jacoby, came from Denmark. The Danish were anti-Jewish in some ways but in World War-2 they went out of their war to save Jews and rescued nearly all those resident in their land.
PART TWO: BRIT-AM CRITERIA APPLIED TO DENMARK
To determine whether or not a nation is of Israelite origin to a Significant degree we employ the Brit-Am ("Ephraimite") Criteria:
These are:
1. Blessings: Economic and Physical Blessings as promised to Israel in Scripture.
2. Indications of Scripture.
3. Groundwork: Historical, Archaeological, and Related Proofs showing paths of migration.
4. Judah: Affinity with the Jews.
5. Originality: Innovation and Intellect.
6. A Civilizing Influence.
7. Empathy: The Doing of Social Justice.
8. Israelite Self-Identification.
9. Family Connection.
10. Tribal Affiliation.
See:
Brit-AM "Ephraimite" Criteria. https://hebrewnations.com/articles/biblical-proof/criteria.html
Applying these Criteria to Denmark we obtain the following results.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
1. Blessings: Economic and Physical Blessings as promised to Israel in Scripture.
BLESSINGS
https://hebrewnations.com/articles/biblical-proof/list122.html
1. Numerous Population: Genesis 15:5, 22:17, 24:60, 32:12, Numbers 23:10, Isaiah 10:22, 24:16, 26:15 Hos.1:10.
2. Agricultural Plenty: Gen 27:28 49:25 Deut 33:13-16 Hoshea 2:8.
3. Natural and Mineral Resources: Genesis 49:25, Deuteronomy 33:13, 15.
4. GATE(s) OF YOUR ENEMIES (International Strategic Points): Genesis 22:17 24:60.
5. Headed by Kings, Genesis 17:6, 16, 35:11.
(1). Numerous Population
Denmark has about 6 million people. There are also numerous descendants of the Danes in Britain and Ireland, the USA, and elsewhere.
The Tribe of Dan when it came out of Egypt with the rest of the Children of Israel was, after Judah, the most populous of Israelite Tribes with 62,700 males between the ages of 20 and 60 apart from women, children, and the elderly (Numbers 2:26).
The Danish in recent times have deliberately restricted the size of their families. This prevents the population from growing.
(2, 3). Agriculture, Natural and Mineral Resources.
In the past Denmark was known for its fertile land and its dairy products.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Denmark
According to economic historian Angus Maddison, Denmark was the sixth-most prosperous country in the world around 1600. The population size relative to arable agricultural land was small so that the farmers were relatively affluent, and Denmark was geographically close to the most dynamic and economically leading European areas since the 16th century: the Netherlands, the northern parts of Germany, and Britain. Still, 80 to 85% of the population lived in small villages on a subsistence level.
Denmark has considerably large deposits of oil and natural gas in the North Sea and ranks as number 32 in the world among net exporters of crude oil... Denmark is a long-time leader in wind power:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denmark
Denmark has a developed mixed economy that is classed as a high-income economy by the World Bank. In 2017 it ranked 16th in the world in terms of gross national income (PPP) per capita and 10th in nominal GNI per capita. Denmark's economy stands out as one of the most free in the Index of Economic Freedom and the Economic Freedom of the World. It is the 10th most competitive economy in the world, and 6th in Europe, according to the World Economic Forum in its Global Competitiveness Report 2018.
Denmark has the fourth highest ratio of tertiary degree holders in the world. The country ranks highest in the world for workers' rights. GDP per hour worked was the 13th highest in 2009. ... Denmark has the world's highest minimum wage.
The country's main export goods are: wind turbines, pharmaceuticals, machinery and instruments, meat and meat products, dairy products, fish, furniture and design. Denmark is a net exporter of food and energy and has for a number of years had a balance of payments surplus which has transformed the country from a net debitor to a net creditor country.
(4). GATE(s) OF YOUR ENEMIES (International Strategic Points) Genesis 22:17 24:60. This blessing was applicable to the sons of Joseph more than to the other Tribes. Denmark is a small country with a relatively small population. Nevertheless historically it has often played an important role. Denmark has had capable kings and good soldiers. The Viking sea-raiders spread their influence far and wide. Denmark at various times has ruled over parts of Sweden, Norway, areas in Germany and along the Baltic Coast. Due to its location Denmark can restrict or enhance access to the Baltic Sea area.
(5). Headed by Kings, Genesis 17:6, 16, 35:11. Denmark is a Constitutional Monarchy.
Denmark has been ruled by monarchs from the same family since 940 CE. This means the family of the Danish monarchy is probably the oldest in the world to reign continuously. The present monarch is Queen Margrethe II who ascended the throne on the death of her father, King Frederick IX, on 14 January 1972. Her heir apparent is Crown Prince Frederik.

11: Zarephath, meaning France and Britain: Obadiah 1:20.
12. Dolmens showing Pathway of Migration: Jeremiah 31:21.
13. Many Waters (Several Oceans): Numbers 24:7.
Points (1, 2, 3, 5,6, 7):
Denmark is at an End of the Earth (1) when the Land of Israel is considered its center.
Denmark is a Peninsula (Jutland) (3) with large and small islands (2) all around it. Denmark is to the northwest (7) and to the north (6).
Denmark provides a benign healthy environment for its inhabitants (9). Denmark through North Sea faces the Atlantic Ocean (4).
Zarephath (11) was a place where the Ten Tribes were to be found. The usual meaning of Zarephath ("Tsarafat") is France, or France and Britain. Nachmanides however takes it to mean "the ends of the far north" which could encompass Denmark. Numerous Dolmens and related megalithic monuments (12) are to be found in Denmark.
Many Waters. Wherever Anglo-Saxons are to be found (13) there too will be descendants of the Danes alongside them.
The Danes have traditionally been Sea-farers (Isaiah 42:1).
Danish Overseas Colonies.
# Danish overseas colonies and Dano-Norwegian colonies are the colonies that Denmark-Norway (Denmark after 1814) possessed from 1536 until 1953. At its apex the colonies spanned four continents: Europe, North America, Africa and Asia.#
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danish_overseas_colonies
The Danes often cooperated with the Netherlands and their overseas enterprises. Many Danes and Norwegians settled in Holland.
The Computer Codes (8) show Dan linked with Denmark and with the Tribes of Asher and Naphtali and adjoining the land of Canaan meaning Germany. Dan was listed as being in the North together with the Tribes of Asher and Naphtali in the Encampment of Israel around the Tabernacle in the Wilderness (Numbers 2:25-27).

3. Groundwork: Historical, Archaeological, and Related Proofs showing paths of migration.
Numerous archaeological findings (in addition to the Dolmens mentioned above) have been found in Scandinavia including Denmark. [It should also be noted that the present-day population of Denmark moved to where it now is at a late date, after ca. 500 CE. Before that to a large measure it had been in southern Sweden. Jutland had been occupied by Jutes, Frisians, and Angles and others who mostly evacuated the area when they invaded England or (in the case of the Frisians) moved to the Netherlands. The Archaeological Findings show an ancient connection with the area of Ancient Israel and places surrounding it such as Egypt, Phoenicia, Mycenea, Cyprus, etc. At the academic level this is accepted and discussed. It is not rejected out of hand as it is in Britain and Ireland. There were also invasions overland from Scythia and these too may be traced back to the Israelite area.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
4. Judah: Affinity with the Jews.
Jews were not allowed to enter any of the Scandinavian countries until a late date. Before World War-2 Denmark placed barriers against the immigration of Jews from Germany. Nevertheless after the Germany Conquest the Danish as a nation moved all of their Jews into Sweden asking the Swedes to accommodate them for the Duration of the War, which they did. After the establishment of Israel in 1948 Denmark was quite friendly todwards Israel.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denmark%E2%80%93Israel_relations
From 9 April 1940, to August 1943, the Danish Jewish community was safe from persecution. The Danish underground, founded by King Christian X, smuggled 7,000 Jews to Sweden. This act brought to the endowment of the honorific Righteous Among Nations to the Danish resistance movement, and it is found at the base of the bilateral relations of the countries. Every 5 years, the rescue operation is commemorated and celebrated in both countries.
It is estimated that over 20,00 Danes came to volunteer in Israel, and that 20 out of 179 parliament members in 2010 were actual kibbutz volunteers in their past.
In 2013, Frederik, Crown Prince of Denmark visited Israel, being the first Danish, and Scandinavian, royal to ever visit Israel. He met with President Peres, who expressed the gratitude of Israel to the Danish people for their actions to rescue Jews during the Holocaust.
Nevertheless, in Denmark as elsewhere the Palestinian enemies of Israel found allies of their own.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
5. Originality: Innovation and Intellect.
6. A Civilizing Influence.
7. Empathy: The Doing of Social Justice.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denmark
Denmark has a long tradition of scientific and technological invention and engagement (5), and has been involved internationally from the very start of the scientific revolution.
Scandinavian Countries, including Denmark, have provided examples (6) of social concern and egalitarianism alongside free enterprise and civil freedom in general. They are also all seriously engaged in assisting other nations and poorer peoples.
The World Happiness Report (7) frequently ranks Denmark's population as the happiest in the world This has been attributed to the country's highly regarded education and health care systems, and its low level of income inequality.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
8. Israelite Self-Identification.
The very name Denmark and a Mythical Ancestor named Dan would lead one to to link "Danmark" (the official name) with of Dan of Israel. There are individuals and small groups who identify as members of the Lost Tribes.
A wide-spread historical cognizance as being somehow "Chosen" by the Almighty and in Covenant with him may be lacking.
We do however find this among the Dutch, the Boers of South Africa, the Irish, the Scottish, the Puritans of England and America, the Huguenots of France, and others. Even so, among the Danish it is implied that the nation as a whole is a special community and that all members of it have a value. and inherit moral social obligation associated with it. This could be accredited as parallel to a "Covenant" attitude.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
9. Family Connection.
The Danish are kith and kin to the English and to the Dutch and to other Scandinavian Peoples all of whom have proofs of their own of Israelite descent. What applies to them is therefore relevant to the Danish as well., and vice versa.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
10. Tribal Affiliation.
The Danish quite clearly relate to the Tribe of Dan with possibly some impute from Judah (the Jutes), Zebulon (Frissia and the Netherlands), Naphtali, Asher, and Gad, and maybe others.
