Was Felix Ernst Peiser the first to Make the "Gomer (wife of Hosea) - Gomer" (Kimmerian) Connection?
The Brit-Am Involvement
In articles and in a series of books we put out we found an association between the Cimmerians and Scythians and the Ten Tribes of Israel who had been Exiled by the Assyrians.
Gomer the Gentile
The Non-Israelite Section of the Gomerites
The Book of Hosea depicts the Ten Tribes in their Places of Exile as children of the Prophet Hosea and his wife Gomer daughter of Diblaim.
Gomer represents the Cimmerians, Diblaim means figs pressed together and connotes assimilation.
The three children begat by Hosea through Gomer have names representing the Lost Ten Tribes in their places of Exile.
Gomer and Israel. The Ten Tribes were to intermix with Gomer meanings certain European Peoples
Descendants of the Lost Ten Tribes in the Book of Hosea are described as the sons of a loose woman called Gomer.
Gomer was also the name of a group of nations descended from Japhet who elsewhere are described as being in Europe.
Before moving to Europe Gomer son of Japhet was to be found in the Middle East. Regions attributed to Gomer son of Japhet in Midrashic and related sources are also those attributed to the Lost Ten Tribes.
The Book of Hosea indicates a union of the exiled northern Israelites with Gomer.
We may therefore assume some type of geographical association between Gomer of Japhet and Gomer of Israel.
Gomer was the name of a son of Japhet son of Noah. Gomer was the father of Ashkenaz, Riphat, and Togarmah (Genesis 10).
From the union of Hosea emerged three children who are shown to represent the Lost Ten Tribes. The Prophet Hosea symbolize the Almighty or Israel According to the allegory that hosea explicitly gives us, from his union with Gomer emerge descendants of the Lost Ten Tribes in their state of exile. This corresponds with our historical researches that show that Gomer is the Cimmerian peoples.
Hebrew Predictions. Hosea and other Prophets
The Prophet Hosea lived at the time the Ten Tribes were exiled. He himself was a born member of them. Hosea was commanded to marry a loose woman named "Gomer." He had children by her. The names given to this offspring are seen to foreshadow matters concerning the Ten Tribes in their places of Exile and future return from it. We know that Hosea is speaking about the Lost Tribes and not about Judah since Hosea specifically excludes Judah from the predicted misfortunes: "But I will have mercy upon the House of Judah" (Hosea 1:7).
The name of "Gomer" wife of Hosea signifies an association of the exiled Israelites with nations descended from the three sons of Gomer son of Japhet son of Noah. The sons of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah (Genesis 10:3). The Sons of Gomer gave rise to entities that are today mainly found in Central and Western Europe. The Book of Hosea indicates a union of the exiled northern Israelites with the descendants of Gomer. The name 'Gomer' was also the name given to the Cimmerians.
"Gomer" in Hosea as prefiguring the Exiled Hebrews.
We have often spoken of the representation of "Gomer" wife of Hosea as prefiguring the confederation of the Lost Ten Tribes with the Peoples of Gomer. By "Gomer" Assyrian Inscriptions and and Classical Biblical Commmenataros understood the meaning to be Cinmerians and Scythians and the European Peoples who came from them.
We have first come across this concept in an old British Israelite text whose name we had lost.
It now appears that the British-Israelite source may have borrowed the idea from Felix Ernst Peiser (1862-1921), a known academic scholar in Germany of Jewish descent.
Felix Ernst Peiser (1862-1921) wrote that the marriage of the Prophet Hosea and Gomer symbolized that the House of Israel would become known as "Gomer", a Cimmerian. A son of the couple is called Jezreel, which in Hebrew means that "which HaShem has planted" or HaShem "will sow". Jezreel in Prophecy refers to the House of Israel, while Zion refers to the House of Judah. Hosea was also the name of the last king of the House of Israel. ... Peiser believed that the deported Israelites would become known as Gomerians or Cimmerians or join up with that people. I know from a conversation I had with a Welsh-born lady that "Cymry" is pronounced "Kum-ree" by the Welsh, which is "Bit Khumri" in the old Assyrian monuments. King Omri's name can be rendered as "Gomri" or "Gomeri" . "Gamar" in Hebrew means a sheaf. The English have a mythical ancestor called Scheaf, old English for a "sheaf".
Felix Peiser was born in Berlin to Jewish publisher and bookseller Wolf Peiser and his wife Rosalia Gottheil...... In Berlin he studied with Eberhard Schrader, founding father of German Assyriology, in Leipzig with Assyriologist Friedrich Delitzsch and Arabist Heinrich Leberecht Fleischer... he was most interested in historical research, just like his good friend Hugo Winckler (Assyriologist and excavator of Hattusa). ....Peiser also had an interest in the textual history of the Old Testament and published several studies on the subject.
In 1899 Peiser founded the Orientalistische Literaturzeitung, today the oldest existing scholarly journal on Ancient Near Eastern studies.....
After his death, Peiser's collection of cuneiform tablets was bought by Franz Bohl, then professor in Groningen; it formed the start of the Bohl Collection, today the largest collection of cuneiform texts in the Netherlands.
