#1. Celts, Egypt, and Hittites.
Shalom Yair
I would like to make it clear that, what archaeologists are calling Hittites are NOT the Biblical Hittites. Using the words of the renowned Swiss Hittitologist, Emil Forrer: "the Hittites were not Hittites at all"! (The Hittites - People of a Thousand Gods p.89, Johannes Lehmann, William Collins Sons & Co. Ltd, 1977) The main language of these people was anything other than Hittite:-
"The name 'Hittite' was given to this language by modern scholars as being the official language of the Land of Hatti, and has been universally accepted; but it is strictly speaking incorrect... ...It is now generally agreed that the true name of the language is 'Nesite' or 'Nesian', the language of Nesa or Kanesh, but despite this the name 'Hittite' is now so well established that it will probably never be abandoned". (The Hittites p.101, Oliver R. Gurney, Penguin Books, 1990)
This sort of information is usually buried by archaeologists. Note that Nebuchadnezzar claimed to have "conquered the whole area of Khatti-land". (Egypt of the Pharaohs p.358, Alan H. Gardiner) It is interesting to note that the designation of 'Khatti-land' or 'land of Hattu' included Ashkelon (Assyrian and Babylonian Chronicles p.100, Chron. 5, line 18 in Vol. 5 of Texts from Cuneiform Sources, Albert Kirk Grayson, J. J. Augustin, 1975) as well as the kingdom of Judah:-
"The seventh year: In the month Kislev the king of Akkad [i.e. Nebuchadnezzar] mustered his army and marched to Hattu. He encamped against the city of Judah and on the second day of the month Adar he captured the city (and) seized (its) king." (Ibid. p.102, line 12)
As Wiseman put it:-
"The effects of the Babylonian victory were immediate and far-reaching. 'At that time', recorded the chronicler, 'Nebuchadrezzar conquered the whole area of Hittatti', the geographical term Hittatti including, at this period, the whole of Syria and Palestine." (Chronicles of Chaldean Kings (626-556 b.c.) in the British Museum p.25, Donald John Wiseman, The Trustees of the British Museum, London 1956.)
These Hattians were to eventually settle in Hesse in central Germany (The Hittites - People of a Thousand Gods op. cit. p.80), this being a people called Chatti by the Latin writers. The interchange of the letters 's' and 't' in ancient languages has already been discussed and demonstrated in previous emails. (e.g. Bashan in northern Israel was called both Batanaian and Batanidi by Josephus, etc.) The Hattians of Asia Minor were a Semitic people (i.e. white) whereas the Biblical Hittites were Hamitic (i.e. black). When therefore Nebuchadnezzar claimed to have conquered the whole area of Khatti-land, he was actually claiming that the whole of Hesse-ia now belonged to him. The name Hesse-ia, when transliterated into Greek, becomes Asia! This designation of Asia started in Anatolia (known in later times as Asia Minor!), extending into north Syria during the time of Sennacherib and extending to include the land of Israel during the time of Nebuchadnezzar. Today, Asia is the designation used for the continent in the Far East.
