The following notes are derived from the work of Rabbi Fishel Mael. He brings sources for everything said below. Our own understanding and opinion do not necessarily coincide.
The Tribe of Manasseh
The Tribes of Benjamin and Simeon were included in Judah.
Manasseh was divided into two halves: One west of the Jordan River; the other on the east side of the Jordan.
The two halves of Manasseh were counted as distinct entities.
Much of Simeon was absorbed by Joseph especially by Manasseh.
Manasseh also included many from Judah.
Reuben, Simeon, and Gad were in the same section camped around the Tabernacle in the Wilderness.
When they inherited the Land of Canaaan these three tribes once again re-united but in a different manner.
We are now in the Hebrew month of Cheshvan (also known as Marcheshvan and as Bul), 5772 i.e. November 2011.
This month is associated with Manasseh. Its sign is the scorpion.
Manasseh contains elements of both disagreement and harmony.
Manasseh is linked to the Temple and the rebuilding of the Third Temple.
Ephraim was a continuation of Joseph.
Manasseh is more a reflection of Jacob.
The blessing of Jacob to Ephraim and Manaaseh meant that Manasseh would become greater at a later date, after Ephraim.
