"Assyria and Germany" by Alexander Zephyr
There are striking similarities between ancient Assyria and modern Germany. These similarities can be easily found, and they are neither far-fetched nor imagined. No other countries in the world are so uncannily alike. The parallels between German and Assyrian cultures are obvious and unique, consider German and Assyrian history and language, love and glorification of war, domination of other people, perfectly organized and centralized governments, thoroughly militarized societies, well-equipped and brutally efficient armies, strong Hattian influences, practices of cruelty, genocide, mass-scale deportation and slave labor, attitudes of Arian superiority, appetite for conquering weaker nations, and ambitions of global imperialism. No other nations fit this description so perfectly.
Scientific linguistic analysis shows that both Assyria and Germany have spoken an Indo-Germanic language. Both Assyrians and Germans are wars-loving cultures called by the Romans 'Germanii,' meaning 'men of war.' The Germans are known for their tendency to break treaties in the same way as their ancestors, as the following examples attest: The Treaty of Versailles, signed between Germany and the Allied Powers in 1919 at the end of WWI, was violated by Germany more than once. In March 1936, Germany reoccupied the demilitarized zone in the Rhineland and in 1938 violated the Treaty again by annexing Austria in the Anschluss (political reunion). Take the further example of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. On August 23, 1939, Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union signed the Nonaggression German-Soviet Pact, in which the two countries agreed to take no military action against each other for the next ten years. Germany broke this pact in June 1941, and the Nazi forces invaded the Soviet Union.
"In all the annals of human conquest, it is difficult to find any people more dedicated to bloodshed and slaughter than the Assyrians. Their ferocity and cruelty have few parallels save in modern times," wrote Leonard Cottrell.
Margaret Thatcher, the former prime minister of England, characterized Germany this way:
Germany is very powerful now, her national character is to dominate.
Emil Ludwig writes:
Not a single neighbor of the Germans could ever trust the Germans to remain peaceable. No matter how happy their condition, their restless passion would urge them on to ever more extreme demands.
Indeed, in modern times Germany has been more dedicated to cruelty and bloodshed than any other nation.
James McCabe, author of History of the World, (vol.1, pp.155, 160), says the Assyrians were a:
'fierce, treacherous race, delighting in the dangers of the chase and in war.' The Assyrian troops were notably among the most formidable of ancient warriors. They never kept faith when it was to their interest to break treaties, and were regarded with suspicion by their neighbors in consequence of this characteristic... In organization and equipment of their troops, and in their system of attack and defense and their method of reducing fortified places, the Assyrians manifested superiority to the nations by which they were surrounded.
In his work Germany in Prophecy, Dr. Herman Hoeh writes,
Ancient Assyria was the greatest war-making power in all of history.
The Assyrian empire was the most powerful, terrorizing, cruelest, and aggressive war machine of the ancient world. Its people loved wars. They were skilled, highly disciplined, and fearless warriors. Their desire to rule other nations, their insatiable war-lust, and inherent feelings of superiority towards other people, these were the national character traits of the Assyrian people. Extreme acts of cruelty and torture were essential characteristics of the Assyrians. They executed nobles and kings of captured enemies as public spectacles for their people. They mutilated bodies, plucked out eyes, cut off the tongues and ears, and stocked severed heads and corpses to intimidate and control their foes.
As the history of Germany during the WWII attests, Assur-Germany also practiced genocide, deported conquered nations on massive scale to different locations of the Reich, and used forced slave-like labor for their interests. Like the Assyrians, Hitler enjoyed public parades with music and lights to demonstrate the grandiosity of its might and superiority of its race. Assur-Germany is going to fulfill the prophecies of our age as a mighty and powerful Empire capable of being 'rod of My anger' (Isaiah 10:5-7) in punishing Israel and dominating the other nations. It will fit the prophecy of Nahum (1:14; 3-all) that describes the joy of the nations who happily 'clap their hands' after the awful destruction of Assur in the Land of Israel (Isaiah 14:25), 'for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?' This country should be a new super power as described by the prophet Daniel 2:40: 'Their kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaks in pieces and subdues all things: and as iron that break all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise,' and in Psalm 83 as the powerful entity, which will help the children of Lot (Jordan) in their plot to annihilate Israel. Yes, there are many verses in the Bible that speak of Assur-Germany of the End Times as a world power to be reckoned with.
Germany's unexpected and surprising return on the world stage as a powerful economic and political leader of Europe is a miracle of itself. It is prophetically significant that, after being reduced to rubble at the end of WWII, Germany (Assur) rose from the ashes like the legendary Phoenix and become the European super power. If this had not happened, there would not have been the Assur of the Bible. There is no doubt that when the Bible passages mention Assur in the End times, it is speaking of modern Germany. Once more, as in ancient times, Assyria-Germany will rise to greatness and dominance. The Bible says it will be its last time.
