Introduction. Judah and Israel in the World Today.
In the world today two of the major players are the English-speaking peoples and the Jews. The so-called Anglo-Saxon nations possess a good portion of the available wealth and power available. Not only that but related nations such as France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, etc., all contribute to the sum-total of civilized endeavour to a degree well beyond their relative numbers.
And then we have the Jews. The Jews excel in intellectual activities marked by a greatly disproportional number of awards, inventions recorded, and palpable results of cerebral activity. They also have the State of Israel which with its small population punches much above its level in nearly every field. The interests of the Jews and of the English-speaking peoples frequently overlap. We believe that the two groups are related to each other. DNA at a simple popular-newspaper grade level will not show this relationship. That could be because DNA is not as well understood or reliable as we like to imagine. Changes in our appreciation of DNA may yet come to show us that the Jews and "Joes" are closer to each other than was once felt possible.
How do we know that the Jews really are the offspring of the ancient Jews of Judah?
The Bible says they are!

(a) Shortened Version.
Scripture tells us that in the End Times Judah will be identifiable by the following points: 1. Always recognized and 2. Always learning.1. Always recognized as Judah.
Genesis (TCT) 49:
10 THE SCEPTER SHALL NOT DEPART FROM JUDAH, NOR THE STUDENT OF THE LAW FROM BETWEEN HIS FEET, UNTIL SHILOH COMES, AND TO HIM WILL BE A GATHERING OF PEOPLES.
The word translated above as "sceptre" in Hebrew is "shevet". Rabbi Manasseh ben Israel (1604-1657) in his book "Conciliator," pointed out that this Hebrew word "shevet" also means 'Tribe' and that, unlike the Lost Ten Tribes, the Jews (i.e. Judah) will always be recognizable for who they are.
The Ten Tribes would get Lost, not Judah (Genesis 34:10 cf. Isaiah 24:3, 49:13-14, 21 Hosea 1:8, Jeremiah 3:6-7).
2. Always learning. So too, "THE STUDENT OF THE LAW" sometimes translated as "Lawgiver" but connoting the same. This type still exists among the Jews. I see them every day and every night. They never stop, still studying.
3. The Jews will have kept the Law (Psalms 60:9, 108:90; Genesis 49:10; Zechariah 8:23).
4. The Jews will have kept the Four Fasts (Zechariah 8:19) as they still do today as they mourn the destruction of the Temple on four days of the year, every year!
5. The Jews will have been persecuted (Zechariah 1:15, Zechariah 8:13, Isaiah ch.53, Isaiah 42:10, Psalm 44:22).
6. The Jews of Judah will be incorrectly known as Israel (Isaiah 48:1).
7. In their Places of Exile Judah will have been defenceless (Hosea 1:7, Psalm 44:22).
8. In the End Times Judah will assert himself (Isaiah 63).
An old lion and a new one.
When the Jews return (as they have begun to do) they will be like lions,
cf.
Genesis (CTC) 49:9 THE CUB (of a lion) [and] A GROWN LION (Aryeh) IS JUDAH. FROM THE PREY, MY SON, YOU WITHDREW. HE CROUCHED, RESTED LIKE A LION ("Aryeh"), AND LIKE A MATURE LION ("Lavi"), WHO WILL ROUSE HIM?
Judah will be an Old-New Nation as the State of Israel now is ("Atlneuland," cf. Genesis 49: 8-12).
9. The Lineages of Levi and the House of David will be present among Judah, Jeremiah 33:20-26.
10. Judah will possess the coast lands of Palestine (Zephaniah ch.2).
11. Judah will dwell in Jerusalem (Zechariah 14:14).
12. The Jews of Judah will Return before the Ten Tribes (Micah 4:8 cf. Hosea 6:10).

Scripture tells us that in the End Times Judah will be identifiable by the following points:

Genesis (TCT) 49:
10 THE SCEPTER SHALL NOT DEPART FROM JUDAH, NOR THE STUDENT OF THE LAW FROM BETWEEN HIS FEET, UNTIL SHILOH COMES, AND TO HIM WILL BE A GATHERING OF PEOPLES.
The word translated above as "SCEPTER" (i.e. staff of offfice) in Hebrew is "shevet". Rabbi Manasseh ben Israel (1604-1657) in his book "Conciliator," pointed out that this Hebrew word "shevet" also means 'Tribe' and that, unlike the Lost Ten Tribes, the Jews (i.e. Judah) will always be recognizable for who they are. The Ten Tribes would get Lost, not Judah (Genesis 34:10 cf. Isaiah 24:3, 49:13-14, 21 Hosea 1:8, Jeremiah 3:6-7).
In verse Genesis 49:10 we have two distinguishing marks for descendants of Judah:
1) Always to be identified as Judah i.e. as "Jewish." This was the promise and this is the case. Whoever denies this denies Scripture.

2) Always to learn Torah.
"NOR THE STUDENT OF THE LAW FROM BETWEEN HIS FEET." (Genesis 49:10). The expression STUDENT OF THE LAW from the Hebrew "MeChokak" is also translatable as "Lawgiver." Both translations are correct. The Lawgiver and 'Student of the Law' still exist among the Jews. I see them every day and every night. They never stop, still studying. The Jews learn Torah all the time. They learn it themselves, teach it to their children, and subsidize other Jews to keep learning for them.
The passion to learn Torah, generation after generation, keeps burning generation after generation.
Who else does this?
Where also does it exist.
It will not cease, NOR THE STUDENT OF THE LAW FROM BETWEEN HIS FEET. A sign of being descended from Judah according to this is an inherited passion to keep learning Torah! This does not mean that every Jews has to have this qulaity BUT it exists and it is widespread.

Psalms (TCT) 60:
9 GILEAD IS MINE, AND MANASSEH IS MINE, AND EPHRAIM IS THE STRENGTH OF MY HEAD; JUDAH IS MY LAWGIVER.
Psalms 108:
9 Gilead is mine, Manasseh is mine, and Ephraim is the strength of my head; ; JUDAH IS MY LAWGIVER.
Psalms 60:9, and 108:8 are both exactly the same. They both refer to Judah as 'MeChokaki' i.e. MY LAWGIVER.
Zechariah (TCT) 8:
23 SO SAID THE LORD OF HOSTS: IN THOSE DAYS, WHEN TEN MEN OF ALL THE LANGUAGES OF THE NATIONS SHALL TAKE HOLD OF THE SKIRT OF A JEWISH MAN, SAYING, "LET US GO WITH YOU, FOR WE HAVE HEARD THAT GOD IS WITH YOU."
Genesis (TCT) 49:

The Jews keep the four fasts of mourning over the Destruction of the Second Temple as prophesied by Zechariah 8:19, i.e.
(a) THE FAST OF THE FOURTH MONTH, -17th Tammuz.
Wikipedia: The Seventeenth of Tammuz ... is a Jewish fast day commemorating the breach of the walls of Jerusalem before the destruction of the Second Temple. It falls on the 17th day of the fourth Hebrew month of Tammuz.
(b) THE FAST OF THE FIFTH MONTH, - 9th of Av. 'the ninth of Av') is an annual fast day in Judaism.

Tisha B'Av is Hebrew for the Ninth of Av, meaning the ninth day of the Jewish month of Av which is the 5th month of the year. Tisha B'Av is mentioned as 'the fast of the fifth month' in Zechariah 7:3,5 and 8:19. Today, Tisha B'Av is a day of fasting and mourning for Jewish people throughout the world.
(c) AND THE FAST OF THE SEVENTH, - 3rd of Tishrei (Gedaliah). # THE JEWISH SAGES INSTITUTED THE FAST OF THE SEVENTH (see Zechariah 8:19) ON THE DAY OF GEDALIAH'S ASSASSINATION IN THE SEVENTH MONTH. #
The Fast (Hebrew: "Tzom") Gedaliah is one of the four fasts commemorating the events around the destruction of Jerusalem hinted at in Zechariah 8:19, along with the 10th of Tevet, 17th of Tammuz and the fast of the tenth, - 10th Tebeth (Tevet).
(d) THE FAST OF THE TENTH [month]. The fast of the Tenth of Tevet (Asarah B'Tevet) is a minor Jewish fast day that falls on the tenth day of the Hebrew month of Tevet. The month of Tevet is the 10th month of the Hebrew calendar, counting from Nissan.

6) The Jews of Judah will be incorrectly known as "Israel" (Isaiah 48:1).
Isaiah (TCT) 48:
1 HEARKEN TO THIS, O HOUSE OF JACOB, WHO ARE CALLED BY THE NAME OF ISRAEL, AND WHO EMANATED FROM THE WATERS OF JUDAH, WHO SWEAR BY THE NAME OF THE LORD AND MAKE MENTION OF THE GOD OF ISRAEL, NEITHER IN TRUTH NOR IN RIGHTEOUSNESS.
The Ten Tribes separated from the Kingdom of Judah that comprised the Tribes of Judah and Benjamin. The separated Kingdon of the Ten Tribes was known as 'Israel.'. When the Jews, descendants of the Kingdom of Judah, returned and established their own polity in 1948 they called it the 'State of Israel.' Strictly speaking however, the term 'Israel' was applicable to the Ten Tribes and not to Israel.

The term "Jew" means "Judah." This was the name of the Kingdom of Judah. It comprise the Tribes of judah, Benjamin, and Levi, and minoirty portions of the other Tribes. The Bible causes this section of the Israeli nation "Judah." it was propheside that among the People of Judah would always be descendants of Levi (Levites) and of King David.
Jeremiah (CTC) 33:
19 AND THE WORD OF THE LORD CAME TO JEREMIAH, SAYING:
20 SO SAID THE LORD: IF YOU BREAK MY COVENANT WITH THE DAY AND MY COVENANT WITH THE NIGHT, AND NOT TO HAVE DAY AND NIGHT IN THEIR TIME.
21 ALSO MY COVENANT WITH DAVID SHALL BE BROKEN, THAT HE SHOULD NOT HAVE A SON REIGNING ON HIS THRONE, AND WITH THE LEVITIC PRIESTS, MY MINISTERS.

People descended from the Tribe of Levi include Cohens and Levis. These comprise about 10% of Jewish communities especially those that are more observant. A large number of leading Rabbis thoughout the ages have been Cohens.
Wikipedia has listed above 12 great Rabbis as being the main Poskim (Rabbinical legal decision-makers) of the pre-20th century. Four of them were Levis, 3 of them were not, and 3 we still have not clarified.

So too, families with a tradition that they descend from King David are also to be found. The were early Sages descended from King David, also the early rulers ("Exilarchs") of the Jews in the Eastern Diaspora, and in the west leading Rabbis and others all with strong traditions of Davidic descent. Among the Separdim we have the family of Abarbanel in Spain, and the family of Dayan in Syria. Among the Ashkenazi were descendants of the Maharal as well as some of the leading Hasidic Dynasties, and descendants of Rashi on the female side.

The 'limping one' in this verse, according to Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Kalisher and others, refers to the Lost Ten Tribes (the Malbim agrees with this) whereas the 'Scattered One' is Judah, who is also described below as the 'Daughter of Jerusalem.'
8 AND YOU-TOWER OF THE FLOCK, THE TOWER OF THE DAUGHTER OF ZION - TO YOU IT SHALL COME; YEA, THE FORMER KINGDOM SHALL COME TO THE DAUGHTER OF JERUSALEM.

Hosea (TCT) 6:
11 JUDAH, TOO, THERE IS A HARVEST APPOINTED TO YOU, WHEN I WILL RETURN THE BACKSLIDING OF MY PEOPLE.
Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Kalisher explains that this verse refers to Judah preparing a 'harvest' i.e. the infrastructure, for the Ten Tribes who will come after them.
