I do not think the German people would have supported Hitler unless he was as he was. That included being against the Jews and prepared to deal drastically with them. Lucy Davidowiz wrote an impressive work about the Holocaust. It was entitled 'The War Against the Jews.' Everything else was secondary. It has been claimed (as quoted by Rabbi Yossef ben Porat) that the advancement of the German armies was designed to enhance the entrapment of Jews more than anything else. This may or may not be correct but it is feasible. It accords with the nature of Germany at that time.
