Does the Hebrew Bible or Jewish culture encourage women to marry intellectuals regardless of their material or social success?
The Jewish Religion places great emphasis on Learning Torah. A religious Jew who is learned and pious would be considered a good catch for a Jewish girl.
Â A family that had material means would consider it an honor and a potential social upgrade to marry their daughter to a learned Jew and generously help support them.
Â Something of this has carried over into the secular Jewish world.
Â If a girl with economic backing was to marry someone without money or status the marriage would be much more acceptable if the bridegroom at least had proven intellectual capabilities.
Â Of course money and sociability would also help.
