The area from the Mediterranean to the Jordan river is part of the Land of Israel. The State of Israel has a great deal of control over it for defense purposes. Israel needs this region for security needs, for its supply of water, for ecological reasons and to house its growing population. This Land was promised to Israel in the Bible and there is a prohibition against relinquishing control over it. Some areas (such as Gaza and parts of Judah and Samaria) are illegally settled by squatters. The world is on their side because they are subject to hostile propaganda. In addition much of the world is instinctively anti-Jewish because the Jews are vulnerable and better. This is a combination that many cannot resist. Ideally the squatters should be assisted to re-locate in some other part of the globe. This is not likely to happen in the near future because the Jews themselves are not prepared for it and the rest of the world would be against it. Time will tell.
Numbers (KJV) 33:
55 But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.
56 Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.
