What was the relationship between the Israelites and the Canaanites?

The Israelite were descended from Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob who was later called Israel. There were Twelve Tribes of Israel. A few of them had Canaanite wives. Later all the Tribes intermixed to some degree with Canaanite peoples. There were also other admixtures. The Canaanites were descendants of Ham and related to the Egyptians. The Minoans and Philistines were also offshoots of the Egyptians and intermixed with Canaanites. That appears to be why the recorded Egyptian presence in the Bible is represented by Philistine activity. Even though these peoples all intermixed they retained some degree of ethnic cohesion and separateness.
