12. Egyptian depictions of "Amori", i.e. Ammorites or Israelites?
The Egyptians referred to the area of Israelite Settlement as "Amor" and its inhabitants as "Amori" (Amorites). It is therefore difficult to discern whether the intention is to one or other of the Canaanite Peoples, especially the Amorites, or to Israelites. The term "Hatti" (meaning Hittite") was similarly (though even more generally) applied by Mesopotamians (Assyrians, Babylonians, etc) to the peoples of Israel and Syria.
