#4. Opinion that the Lost Ten Tribes are the Ashkenazic Jews?
http://britam.org/now/1092Now.html#Opinion
We quoted from:
Shlomo Koshlavski, "VeAsher Tavonah Yagidu", Jerusalem, 5764 (ca. 2004).
The author (p.98) bases his opinion on his understanding of the Commentators Targum Yehonatan, Rashi, Iben Ezra, Radak.
He understands from their commentaries that the Ten Tribes went to France and Germany and assumes that they must be the Jews of those areas.
Most of the Commentators he mentions are also quoted (along with others) by us only we deal with them differently.
If it were to be accepted, as the Bible indicates, that Jews practising Judaism are not intended, then that leaves Gentiles of Israelite descent who were once in the said areas to be considered.
See:
The Brit-Am Commentary to the Book of Obadiah
http://britam.org/obadiah.html
Another point worth noting is that,
Shlomo Koshlavski quotes Nachmanides as saying that the Jews of Spain included members of the Royal Family of David along with Cohens.
He also quotes Nachmanides as saying that part of the Tribe of Simeon were with the Jews in Spain but we could not (so far) find a source for this in the extract from Nachmanides that was quoted.
The Jews of France says Nachmanides were mainly from the Tribe of Benjamin with a minority from Judah.
Nachmanides said that the Lost Ten Tribes were in the far north and from the context he means the far north of Europe, and separate from Judah.

#4. New article. Dan in Ireland and Wales. "Griffin."
http://britam.org/now2/1462Now.html#New
Good Day, Yair Davidiy & Brit-Am.
In your article about Dan in Ireland and Wales I found the following two sentences. The symbol of the Hyksos was a griffin which had the body of a lion and head of an eagle.
This was also one of the symbols of Dan. In connection with this I wish to point out that in the province of Scania (Skane) of southern Sweden the symbol is a Griffin.
This part of Sweden once belonged to Denmark and most of the population today must be a mixture of Danes and Gadites. The colours of the Griffin are also a mixture of Danish and Swedish colours.

5. G. Forrester: The Vandals, the Tribe of Asher, North Africa and Phoenicia
Re: Brit-Am Now no. 1465
#1. Question Concerning the Israelite Tribe of Asher
http://www.britam.org/now2/1465Now.html#Question
Hi Yair
You identify the Vandals with Asher but it would seem the Vandals are actually Phoenicians who lived in the tribal area of Asher. I say this because the action of the Vandals and there pattern of migration in the Mediterranean sea seem to be a repeat of the action of the Phoenician in the earlier Punic war with Rome. From there base in old Carthage the Vandals devastated Rome for the second time just as there ancestors did 700 years before. It must be recalled that the area of Asher was once a part Phoenicia in ancient Israel so the population could be mixed but the Vandals by there action could only be Phoenician. I think it has been suggested that Asher may be identified with the Belgians, this seems reasonable.
Shalom
G Forrester.

8. You Were Created as You Would Have Wanted to Be! The Source.
You might be dark or white, tall or short, etc. Whatever you are that is what you would want to have been if you had have been given the choice. You are suited to yourself. We can only be pleased with what we are and do the best we can with it.
This brings us to a DRASH from the Talmud. "Drash" (or "Derash") is the root word for "Midrash" which is based on Derash. "Derash" literally means "searching" but in Exegetical (Bible Commentary) terms it may be explained as connoting "finding additional meaning". The "Derash" does not uproot any word or verse from its primary implication. The simple meaning of the Bible is usually the intended message. In many cases however the choice of words, combinations of expression, grammatical oddities, etc exist that hint at additional meanings. These are found by "Derash" in the Talmud and Rabbinical Literature. Yair Davidiy, personally, studies the Talmud a little and believes in it. Apart from its personal applications in my opinion it also helps Brit-Am. Nevertheless we do not usually speak about it since it is not directly pertinent to what we are about. Brit-Am is mainly concerned with the Lost Ten Tribes. Other matters are also sometimes dealt with but they are not our main objective.
In this particular case we are making an exception since the message is both important and interesting.
Genesis 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished.
The expression "all the host of them" in Hebrew is "Le-Tsava-am" and should be rendered "according to the host of them".
The Talmud (Chulin 60;a Rosh Hashana 13;a) says: # Do not read "Le-Tsava-am" but rather "Le-Tsivyon-am".
In Hebrew and Aramaic the word "Tsva" implies "will, desire".
Rashi (Chulin 60;a): According to the form they chose for themselves.
Rosh Hashana 13;a: # Said Rabbi Yehoshua ben Levi, Everything that was created, was made according to its own level; according to its own awareness was it created; in accordance to how it would have wanted to become [Hebrew: "Be-Tsivyon-am] was it made as its says, 'Thus the heavens and the earth, according to all the host of them [Hebrew: "Le-Tsava-am"], were finished' (Genesis 2:1). Do not read "Tsava-am" [according to all the host of them] but rather "Tsivyon-am" [in accordance to how it would have wanted to become.] #
Rashi: "according to its own awareness" [Hebrew: "le-Daatam"] They were asked if they wished to be created and they answered, Yes.
Rashi: # "in accordance to how they would have wanted to become" [Hebrew: "Be-Tsivyon-am"] According to the reasoning of each and every one and in the individual imprinted formation of each one. #
It should be pointed out that this Derashah is not so far fetched as it may seem to the English-speaking reader. In Hebrew the word translated as "according to the host of them" may also connote "how it would have wanted to become".
Even though the Talmud says # Do not read "Tsava-am" [according to all the host of them] but rather "Tsivyon-am"# , it does not really need to do so.
"Tsava-am" and "Tsivyon-am" are almost interchangeable. "Tsava-am" as well as meaning "their hosts" may also imply "their desire" or will i.e. "how they would have wanted to become".
Anyway we are all as we are for a reason.

Extract:
The "Dark Foreigners" called "Aunites" (Hunites?) in the Annals of Ulster, who defeated and even cannibalized the "FairHaired Foreigners", represented Huns who had gained control of Denmark, Gotland and Sweden, and the "Fairhaired Foreigners" were Norwegians, probably Germanic peoples like the Alans, who escaped from Hunnic control by fleeing over the mountains to Norway, where the Huns couldn't fight or travel easily with their steppe-adapted horses and warfare methods. The Norwegians, perhaps descendants of the Alans, colonized Iceland, Ireland and the Faroese, culminating in the West Norse language, while the Huns and perhaps their conquered Gothic peoples gained control of Denmark, Gotland and Sweden, resulting in the East Norse language.

Also, the Varangian Guard which operated in Russia, and was also associated with Vikings (and with the River Var and Avar people in the Hungarian area), fits nicely into that area of flatlands directly east of Denmark. Some Vikings went West to get treasure and Danegeld from Britain, while some went East to Russia. Flatlands may be the key.
The trouble with the Varangian Guard is that some illustrations show
them with very thick curly black beards, not at all Asiatic! So I don't
know what to think of that, except that some of their cheeks seem to be deliberately scarified like those of Huns.
