Tribal Virtue. What should each Tribe strive for as its own Individual forte! (11 September 2015, 27 Elul 5775)
We received the following question from
My question was if you have a tribe-by-tribe listing of the judgments as you do of the tribes' characteristics, tribe-by-tribe or it it is just a blanket judgement for Judah following the Torah and the rest of the tribes acting with empathy and kindness in a moral manner.
In reply we drew up the list below showing the positive aspects of each tribe.
Moral experts and Torah thinkers have different attitudes but in general one should concentrate on what one does best.
It therefore may help to understand the peculiar strong points of each tribe.

Reuben: Excellence, etiquette, intellectual achievement, logic, precision, exactitude, honor.
Reuben was blessed to be the firstborn in his way of thinking. Everything has to progress in a logical way. he was also blessed that he should strive to excell.
Simeon: strictness, dedication, family, religious zeal, application of physical force in a positive direction.
Levi: community, accompaniment, direction and education, religious fervor, song and musical accomplishment, conformity.
Judah: Religious insights, intellect, legal aptitude, intellectual honesty, family commitment.
Issachar - Intellect, assiduity, down-to-earthiness, technical aptitude.
Zebulon - outgoing, merchandising, seagoing, homely, domestic importance.
Dan - legal exactitude, strength, ability to circumvent obstacles in non-conventional manners.
Naphtali - Self-expression; drama; communications, speed, formulation of reality, computers.
Asher - happiness, assurance, correction.
Gad: Military proclivity. Livestock, extended family, design, woodwork.
Benjamin - Friendliness, empathy, exceptional talent in physical specialities, correctness.
Ephraim - nobility, noblesse oblige, spontaneity, economic security and wealth, bravery.
Manasseh - democratic instincts, popularity, capital enterprise, assertive.
Joseph (Ephraim and Manasseh together) : Social Justice, enforcement of justice and right; help to others.
Abraham had been blessed that he should become
The Promised Blessings began with Abraham. He was the first Patriarch and to him was it promised to become, "A great nation, and in you will all the families of the earth be blessed" (Genesis 12:2-3).
Jacob blessed Joseph, "The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills: they shall be on the head of JOSEPH, and on the crown of him that was separated from his brethren" (Genesis 49:6).
"Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him. For I know him that he will command his children and his house after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD to do justice and judgement; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him" (Genesis 18:18-19).
"Hate the evil and love the good, and establish judgement in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of Hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of JOSEPH" (Amos 6:15).
