Joseph - Ancestor of the Lost Ten Tribes.

Joseph was the son of Jacob aka Israel and the grandson of Abraham. Joseph was the ancestor of many people in English-peaking nations and among the Lost Ten Tribes in general.
In Biblical Terms "Joseph" is sometimes used as a generic name for all the Lost Ten Tribes.

Amos (NKJV) 5:
15 HATE EVIL, LOVE GOOD;
ESTABLISH JUSTICE IN THE GATE.
IT MAY BE THAT THE LORD GOD OF HOSTS
WILL BE GRACIOUS TO THE REMNANT OF JOSEPH.

Joseph was divided into two tribes, Ephraim and Manasseh.
The Tribe of Ephraim became dominant more in Britain and its direct offshoots whereas the USA was more the domain of Manasseh though descendants of both Ephraim and Manasseh are to be found throughout both Britain and America.
Joseph during his life-term was referred to several times as a Hebrew.
The term "Hebrew" in the Bible is synonymous with Israelite.

1 GO BACK TO PHARAOH, THE LORD COMMANDED MOSES. TELL HIM, THIS IS WHAT THE LORD, THE GOD OF THE HEBREWS, SAYS: LET MY PEOPLE GO, SO THEY CAN WORSHIP ME.

The Prophet Jonah described himself as a Hebrew who worships THE LORD, THE GOD OF HEAVEN, WHO MADE THE SEA AND THE LAND.


Jonah (NLT) 1:
7 THEN THE CREW CAST LOTS TO SEE WHICH OF THEM HAD OFFENDED THE GODS AND CAUSED THE TERRIBLE STORM. The term Hebrew may originally have meant descendants of Abraham or dwellers of the Land of Israel. Eventually it came to mean a worshipper of the God of Israel and a member of the Hebrew (i.e. Israelite) race.
The term Hebrew became applied to the Israelite nation and only to them.

 In the Hebrew Language "Hebrew" is "Ibri" and in the West it ifs pronounced as Hiberi or Iberi.

Meaning of the Name.
The word Hebrew in the HEBREW LANGUAGE could be pronounced something like Iber or Ivri. Since in Hebrew vowels are somewhat elastic it could also have possibly taken the forms of Hiberi, Eberi, oberi, aberi. The "B" sound could also have been pronounced as v or as p.
The word Hebrew (IBRI, ivri) comes from the root IBR which connotes "over, other, pass over, other side, either, etc". The word could refer to those who are moving around i.e. nomadic, wandering.
[The English words "over" and "other" and "either" also derive from the same source.]
The word aver in Hebrew may also mean a crossing over.
In Hebrew the "Ha-" prefix is the equivalent of the definite article "the" so that "Ibri" and "Ha-Ibri" mean the same.

Indications exist  that this name was the ethnonym of an important element amongst the Celtic Peoples. It was their national name. It was what they called themselves.
They did not call themselves "Celts." Different sections were nameded Iberi, or Hiberi, Hiberni, and numerous place-names contained the roots Ebro- Ebri, Hibri, Hebro, Aber, etc, all of whichderive fromt he same word roots meaning "aber,,"  

Abraham was known as the Hebrew. The Midrash says that Abraham stood on one side, Abraham stood on the other.
Descendants of Abraham and Joseph have the ability to stand up for what is right and if necessary to go against the mainstream.
They are also able to think differently and to countenance unconventional concepts.
