The name Gad in Hebrew is often understood as derived from the Hebrew word "Gdud" which connotes a troop of warriors (Genesis 30:11). For this reason the symbol of Gad is often depicted as a row of tents indicating soldiers in their encampment.

Gad is especially prominent in Sweden. The Goths and the Suiones (Sviar) were the major peoples of Sweden.
GAD a name for Goth. "Goth" in Biblical Hebrew is an alternative (some say more correctly) of pronouncing the name Gad.
Gad was a name for Goths and an identifying root in Gothic toponomy.
Gudos was also a name for the Goths.
Getae were a Gothic group in the Balkans and Scandinavia. Together with the Daci (who became the Danes and were from Dan) they participated in the Anglo-Saxon invasion of Britain.
The name was also used as another form of Goth.
Guti was a name for the Goths both in Scandinavia and east of the Caspian though some modern historians incorrectly transliterate the name (from Chinese characters) as Yueh-chi.
Guthones = Goths on Baltic coast.
Gautoi in Scandinavia.
Gadrosia in Iran.
Pasargadoi meant Sons of Gad in ancient Iran.
Thatagydes in ancient Afghanistan: Thata-represented the Teutons and Gydes the Goths.
These groups and names (Thagydes, Pasargadai, Gadrosia) represent the Israelites in their "Scythian" phase shortly after their exile before they moved northward.
Gadeni were in Scotland int he region of Edinburgh..
Geddingas were an Anglo-Saxon associated sub-tribe who settled in England.
CLANS OF GAD:
Ziphion: Thaifalli -allies of the Goths from Scythia migrated to France. Goths also settled in southern France. They had a close relationship with the Jews.
Haggi (Chaggi): Chauci (Franks also known as Hugo, and as Hocing). Yngling (Sweden), Cauci (Ireland).
Huguenots of France named after a legendary Hugo identifiable as Haggi of Gad. [also identified as Hanoch of Reuben]. Gad and Reuben were closely associated. Both settled east of the Jordan in the Land of Israel which stretches from the Nile to the Euphrates.. Both were taken away together by the Assyrians (1-Chronicles ch.5)
Shuni (Suni): Suiones (Sweden).
Etsbon: Bastarnae (a group identified as both Gothic and Galatian. They moved from Scythia to France. Astings, Hastings (Vandal group invaded England and Scotland).
Ozni: Osnabruch (Frankish Germany).
Eri (Geri): Grani (Sweden), Greotingi (Goths, Sweden).
Arodi (Ha-Arodi): Harudi (Norway), Hreadgoths (Scandinavia).
Areli (Ha-Eruli): Eruli (Herules) -associated with Goths, Sweden. It should be mentioned that in Hebrew the Arodi are referred to as Ha-Arodi(i.e. The Arodi) and the Areli as Ha-Areli(i.e. The Areli).
