Genesis 46 and Numbers 26 list clans amongst the Israelite Tribes including those of Gad which clans became historical entities
Duration 22.4 minutes
Clans of Gad are listed in the Bible. After the Ten Tribes were exiled these clans often became important peoples in their own right, kept the same or similar names, and preserved similar tribal alliances and group formations. This was despite the fact that they had lost most conscious awareness of their Hebrew ancestry.
Peoples and Clans of Gad
Genesis 46 and Numbers 26 list clans amongst the Israelite Tribes.
Many of the different clans were destined to become peoples and tribes in their own right. By comparing the names of these clans with historical groups we can confirm conclusions concerning the Israelite Descent of these historical groups and determine to which tribe they belonged to. We often find the same groups aligned with each other in the past and at the present times as when they were within their Israelite Tribal Groupings.
Details of these matters are available in our work, The Tribes.
Below we show the names and historical identifications of peoples and clans from Gad. These were entities associated with the Goths or others who settled in Sweden alongside the Goths. The Nation of Sweden in the modern sense came into being when the Goths and Svea (Suiones) united.
We have additional evidence equating the Goths and Swedes with Gad and with Israelites in general. At present however we are dealing only with Clan names and their significance.
Genesis 46:
16 The sons of Gad were Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli.
Numbers 26:
15 The sons of Gad according to their families were: of Zephon, the family of the Zephonites; of Haggi, the family of the Haggites; of Shuni, the family of the Shunites; 16 of Ozni, the family of the Oznites; of Eri, the family of the Erites; 17 of Arod, the family of the Arodites; of Areli, the family of the Arelites. 18 These are the families of the sons of Gad according to those who were numbered of them: forty thousand five hundred.
Gad - Goth. Gad was a name for Goths and an identifying root in Gothic toponomy. The name Gad in Biblical Hebrew could also have been pronounced as Goth.
Gudos was also a name for the Goths.
Getae were a Gothic group in the Balkans and Scandinavia. In Scandinavia and elsewhere the name is just another form of Goth.
Guti was a name for the Goths both in Scandinavia and east of the Caspian though some modern historians incorrectly transliterate the name (from Chinese characters) as "Yueh-chi".
Guthones = Goths on Baltic coast.
Gautoi in Scandinavia.
Gadrosia in Iran.
Pasargadoi meant "Sons of Gad" in the Pahlevy (Parthian) dialect of ancient Iran. The Pasargadoi were the clan from which the Acheminid rulers of Iran emerged. We do not think they were necessarily Israelites but some kind of connection may have existed.
Thatagydes in ancient Afghanistan: "Thata-" represented the Teutons (Tahan from Ephraim) and "Gydes" the Goths.
Gadeni in Scotland unless we relate them to the Gideoni of Benjamin (Numbers 10:24) or to Gideon of Manasseh (judges ch.6).
Gaedhal in ancient Scotland and Ireland (a possibility only).
Geddingas were an Anglo-Saxon associated sub-tribe.
