1. China Against the British Monarchy
CHRIS JACKSON/AP
Chinese pressure is fuelling a drive to remove the Queen as head of state in Barbados, a Tory MP has claimed.
Tom Tugendhat, chairman of the foreign affairs committee, said yesterday that Beijing had actively sought to undermine London's historical status as a key partner with Caribbean nations.
He declined to go into detail regarding the alleged tactics, but told The Times: 'China has been using infrastructure investment and debt diplomacy as a means of control for a while and it's coming closer to home for us.'
'British partners have long faced challenges from rivals seeking to undermine our alliance. Today we're seeing it in the Caribbean.'

2. Fidel Castro Supported the British Monarchy!

Has the time come for Caribbean republics?

Extract:
IN 1994, shortly after Antigua and Barbuda and Cuba established diplomatic relations, Fidel Castro and Antigua and Barbuda's Prime Minister Lester Bird had a memorable conversation in Havana. The conversation is worth recalling in the context of the third announcement by a Government, that of Barbados, that by November 2021 it intends to become a republic, shedding monarchical status and Queen Elizabeth II as head of State.
The conversation between Lester and Fidel, at which I was present as a member of the Antigua and Barbuda delegation, started with the revolutionary Cuban leader asking Lester (now Sir Lester) what big plans he had in mind for Antigua and Barbuda. Lester told Fidel that he was contemplating moving to make Antigua and Barbuda a republic. Fidel's response stopped Sir Lester and the entire Antigua and Barbuda delegation in our tracks. 'Why?' asked the legendary revolutionary. 'Does she interfere with your Government?'
Sir Lester explained that she did not and that, in a real sense, while Antigua and Barbuda, like many other Caribbean countries, was one of The Queen's realms, her role in the government of the country was performed by a local representative and, apart from assenting to legislation, which could not be withheld, was only ceremonial, having no executive authority.
'In which case,' Fidel responded, 'you might consider remaining as you are. The Queen doesn't interfere with your Government and she provides to foreign investors and others a level of confidence in the constitutional arrangements of your State.'
The surprising conversation did not go much beyond that. It was staggering to the Antigua and Barbuda delegation, but it demonstrated the practical sense of Fidel Castro, which might account, in part, for the survival of Cuba despite the punishing embargo by the United States.
That 1994 conversation between Fidel and Sir Lester took place at least nine years before Owen Arthur, as prime minister of Barbados, first proposed republican status for Barbados in 2003; 18 years before Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson suggested it in 2012; 21 years prior to Prime Minister Freundel Stuart echoing the proposition in 2015 for Barbados; 22 years before Andrew Holness as prime minister repeated it in 2016 for Jamaica; and 26 years before the latest announcement by the Barbados Government of Prime Minister Mia Mottley on September 15.
So far, none of the countries in which this proposal has been made has gone through with it.

01-Oct-20: Remembering the launch of a war twenty years ago
Posted: 01 Oct 2020 07:14 AM PDT
Arnold Roth was interviewed last night on the English-language TV channel operated by i24NEWS.
The ten minute segment served as a brief, but welcome, opportunity to touch on what's been learned: the struggle for peace, the Shalit Deal, Ahlam Tamimi, the duplicity of Hashemite Jordan and the work of the Malki Foundation.

04-Oct-20: The Sbarro bomber's husband has been forced to leave Jordan: A snapshot of developments
Posted: 03 Oct 2020 04:21 PM PDT
Extracts:
This past Thursday, reports emanating initially from Tamimi clan sources and then later via the Arabic media in Jordan said the husband of Ahlam Tamimi, the admitted bomber of the Jerusalem Sbarro pizzeria in 2001, has suddenly been expelled from Jordan.
He appears to be taking up residence in Qatar.
Middle East Eye reported Friday (October 2, 2020) that
Jordanian authorities on Thursday declared the liberated Palestinian prisoner Nizar Al-Tamimi persona non grata and asked him to leave the country, according to sources who spoke to Arabi21 news site. Nizar al-Tamimi is the husband of Ahlam al-Tamimi, who served time in Israeli prisons. Ahlam, who holds Jordanian citizenship, is wanted in the United States. Washington had previously requested her extradition, but Amman refused due to the absence of a law allowing the extradition of Jordanian citizens abroad. Her husband only has Palestinian citizenship, and is not on any wanted list by any country. A Jordanian source told Arabi21 that Nizar al-Tamimi had been renewing his residence permit every three months, but this time Jordanian authorities refused to extend his stay, and asked him to leave the country, even though his wife is a Jordanian national. The source said that Nizar left on Thursday to Doha [Qatar] despite attempts to mediate and solve the issue without having him deported. The source confirmed that 'the decision to deport Nizar al-Tamimi is linked to his wife's involvement in a suicide attack against Israelis during the Second Palestinian Intifada, which prompted the US authorities to pursue her ever since'.
The Trump administration indicated a few months ago its intention to cut off aid to Jordan as a way to pressure the kingdom's authorities to hand over Ahlam to Washington, Arabi21 reported. In 2013, the US Department of Justice put Ahlam al-Tamimi on the FBI's most wanted terrorists list, and charged her with "conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction against US nationals outside the United States".
Nizar Tamimi, at the time a member of the Fatah terror organization and a resident of the Palestinian Arab village of Nabi Saleh ["17-Mar-13 A Little Village in the Hills and the Monsters it Spawns"] was charged in 1993 with his involvement in the murder of an Israeli student of Jewish religion, Chaim Mizrachi ["The murder of a West Bank student highlights the plight of the Jewish religious communities confronting Palestinian rule", Sarah Helm, The Independent UK, November 7, 1993]. The young Mizrachi had made the fatal mistake of buying eggs from a Palestinian Arab farmer. It's an appalling story.
Tamimi was subsequently convicted for his part in the cruel and gruesome homicide and sentenced to life imprisonment. Two other Tamimi cousins were convicted at the same time.
Nizar Tamimi walked free in the extortionate deal Israel did with the terrorists of Hamas in 2011 to secure the freedom of a young hostage, Gilad Shalit. So did his cousin Ahlam Tamimi, and so did 1,025 other convicted terrorists. The two Tamimis were married in Jordan less than a year later ["22-Jun-12: A wedding and what came before it"]. Bassem Tamimi and his family traveled to Jordan to take part in the celebrations.

5. One in Four Germans Believe Jews 'Have Too Much Power,' New Survey Reveals

A World Jewish Congress survey published on Thursday dramatically underlined the continuing rise of antisemitism in Germany, with more than one in four respondents expressing agreement with statements that were based upon classic anti-Jewish tropes.
Out of the 1,300 Germans who participated in the survey, 27 percent concurred with a range of antisemitic statements and stereotypes. The survey was conducted two months ago, before the attempted massacre by a neo-Nazi gunman of Jewish worshipers who attended Yom Kippur services at a synagogue in Halle on Oct. 9.
The claim that 'Jews talk too much about the Holocaust' was agreed with by 41 percent of respondents.... Asked whether Jews had 'too much power in international financial markets,' 26 percent said that was the case.
The statement that 'Jews have too much power in global affairs' drew 24 percent agreement.... Nearly one in four respondents - 24 percent, agreed with the statement, 'A lot of the people I know have negative feelings about Jews.'

Israel's Information War

Extracts:
The "Information War" is the struggle to attack or defend the image of the State of Israel in the consciousness of the world. It is truly a world war, but the two main active fronts today are the Arabic-speaking world, where for the first time there are signs of pro-Israel initiatives, and the West.
A striking feature of the Information War in the West is the imbalance between the resources of the two sides. The pro-Israel list is much shorter. We have sporadic and uncoordinated attempts at hasbara (public diplomacy, or "propaganda," if you prefer) by the Israeli government, the most recent of which is the allocation of funds to the Ministry of Strategic Affairs (MSA) to fight BDS and delegitimization. In 2019, MSA granted about $5.3 million to individuals and organizations. As of September 2019, it had 32 employees (Hebrew link). Al Jazeera alone has about 100 times as many.
The most important and well-known private individuals that support pro-Israel messaging, of course, are Miriam and Sheldon Adelson. Their family foundation has given millions to Birthright Israel. They are also involved in other causes, such as Holocaust education, that are only tangentially related to the cognitive conflict over Israel's image. Other Jewish philanthropists give large amounts of money to Jewish and Israeli causes (Jewish education, hospitals, Magen David Adom, etc.), but little for hasbara.
There are also a few private organizations. Some conservative think tanks like the David Horowitz Freedom Center give grants and fellowships to pro-Israel writers. Its 2018 Form 990 shows total expenses of about $6.8 million. Considering its wide range of activities, its contribution to specifically pro-Israel hasbara is small.
Evangelical Christians that support Israel have some positive effects. Christians United for Israel had a budget of about $1.3 million in 2018, a surprisingly small amount given that group's status as a bete noire for liberal American Jews.
The European Union, collectively and from its members, has provided tens of millions of Euros to NGOs hostile to Israel, which are responsible for demonization and delegitimization in the information sphere, and lawfare against Israel. It also provides practical aid supporting illegal Arab colonization in Area C of the territories, which is supposed to be under full Israeli control according to the Oslo agreements. In the past nine years, the EU has even granted 38 million Euros to NGOs linked to EU-designated terror groups. All this is in addition to its own political activities, like demanding that Israeli products from the territories be given special labeling to facilitate boycotters.
There are major charitable foundations, like the Rockefeller Brothers Fund (RBF), the Ford Foundation, and groups linked to George Soros' Open Society Institute. Together these foundations funnel tens of millions of dollars into groups and activities that support BDS or simply produce anti-Israel propaganda. For example, the RBF has made grants to IfNotNow and Jewish Voice for Peace, two BDS-supporting groups in the US, and to dozens of other anti-Israel actors.
Finally, there are the direct donations from Arab countries and Iran to Western universities, primarily in the US and the UK, but also in Canada and on the continent, amounting to billions of dollars. That is not a typo: one country, Qatar, gave $1.4 billion to American universities between 2012-2018. Of course these countries have other goals in addition to defaming Israel, but still there is no doubt that a great deal of the influence they are buying is directed to the cognitive war against the Jewish state.

7. Amnon Golberg: Biden verus Trump. Remembering Rabbi Avigdor Miller.
Originally published in a letter to the Jewish Tribune (15 October, 2020).
The outrageous canard that "Biden likens Trump's rhetoric to that of Goebbels" (JT 30 September, p20) brings to mind the statement of Rav Avigdor Miller in February 1984: "And now Reagan is up for reelection. Everybody must know it's an ideal to vote for Reagan. Not because we love Reagan so much. I have nothing against him, but we love him because of his opponents. He has such rotten opponents that we have no choice. Every one of them is mamesh a dead rat! A dead rat! They smell like dead rats - every one of them! They're terrible, his opponents! We have no choice! And we must go out and work and wake up the people and tell them it's a sakana [i.e. dangerous] even more than the first time. We have to work hard that Reagan should be reelected! Not because of Reagan; just to keep those other fellows out of office! " (tape 495). Maybe the name 'Reagan' can today be replaced with that of 'Donald John Trump'?!
Reichsminister fur Volksaufklarung und Propaganda Dr Joseph Goebbels (1897-1945), the viperous 'poison dwarf', almost single handedly kept WW2 going for another 2 years by rallying the Nazis with his infamous 'Total War' speech in 1943, at a moment when their morale almost collapsed after the Stalingrad defeat. Together with his strident Deutsche Wochenschau newsreels that gave the German masses the impression that they were winning, even though each 'victory' was taking place closer and closer to the borders of the Third Reich!
Goebbels mightily facilitated the Holocaust with two films in particular: his wicked Der Ewige Jude, the most genuinely racist film ever made; and even more effective at promoting antisemitism, the scurrilous historical drama film Jud Suss, about the martyred 18th century court Jew, Suss Oppenheimer.
- "Do not establish the man of evil tongue in the land" ("Ish loshon bal yikon b'aretz" [Psalms] 140): for brazenly beseeching the Deity to assist him in his machinations against us, cynically referring to Jews as 'unser mishpoche' [i.e. Our family" in Yiddish-Hebrew] , Goebbels, together with his Fuhrer, is even now being appropriately punished: "The praises of Hashem rising from those in Gehinnom surpass the praises of those basking in Gan Eden!" (Midrash Shocher Tov 4)
