Everyone forgets Zachariah, don't they. Even though his prophecies concerning the return of the Jews to the land in the latter days have proved to be uncannily accurate.

2. Answer to Query Concerning Different Biblical Translations and the Book of Daniel.
Query:
Dear Mr. Davidiy, I am currently trying to read Daniel. Some of the translated sentences in my Norwegian Bible is really hard to make any good sense of. I wonder as I'm not a Hebrew speaker, which Bible version could best help me. Do you have any suggestion? I've seen that you recommend the Jubilee Bible and some times the King James Version.
The actual verse I'm currently reading is Daniel 11, 15. At the end of the verse it says that 'Even his chosen people will not have the strength to withstand. ' I can't see what people, or, whose people from this verse. The King of the South's people? Because in my Norwegian Bible the phrase 'the chosen people' is normally used for God's chosen people.
I'm sorry to bother you. I just don't know where to find the Hebrew options for these words. And you are studying the Torah as well as being fluent in both Hebrew and English.
I hope your days are blessed and free of the vexing cares of everyday life.
Kind regards,
Mrs. H.
Norway

Brit-Am Reply:
Shalom,
All Translations of the Bible are useful. Each has its own advantage and imperfections. The Kings James version is usually very good but the language is sometimes difficult. In the past we also used the New American Standard Bible. We obtain our texts for online use from BibleGateway.com.
https://biblehub.com/ is also very useful.
These are Christian Sites. Jewish sites also exist but cater more to Jews who are familiar with Hebrew.
Mechon Mamre
https://mechon-mamre.org/ is very good.
It too uses an English Translation that looks worthwhile and perhaps we should have had more recourse to it in the past.
They use:
The Hebrew Bible in English according to the JPS 1917 Edition - This is actually similar to the KJV and uses Old English expressions that are not so popular these days.
They say:
# The English text in this HTML edition of the Hebrew Bible is based on the electronic text (c) by Larry Nelson (P.O. Box 1681, Cathedral City, CA 92234 USA, nelsonlarry@juno.com) as found on the Internet in differing copies.
Regarding translations in general, I personally use the translation of Genesis 27:39 as testing measure: This concerns the blessing to Esau brother of Jacob.
The JPS-1917 renders it:
Genesis 27:
39 And Isaac his father answered and said unto him: Behold, of the fat places of the earth shall be thy dwelling, and of the dew of heaven from above;
Here the verse is correctly rendered as a blessing to Esau, that he shall benefit from the "fat (fertile) places of the earth. Some Christian versions render it not "from" but rather "away from" which is mistaken and misleading.
Regarding the verse in Daniel you inquired about the JPS-1917 renders it:
Daniel 11:
15 And the king of the north shall come, and cast up a mound, and take a well-fortified city; and the arms of the south shall not withstand; and as for his chosen people, there shall be no strength in them to withstand.
Here the expression "Chosen People" is referring to those of the King of the South.
We did produce a Brit-Am Commentary to the Book of Daniel but for some reason stopped after chapter 10.
We should perhaps go back over it and complete the remaining two chapters.

3. Thanks - and Appeal
http://www.britam.org/contribute-Brit-Am.html
http://hebrewnations.com/contributions/offerings.html
In early February, 2022, we sent out a message entitled,
"Keeping in Touch Appeal."
THE RESULT WAS POSITIVE!
In the past, some of our Appeals resulted in relatively few answers though everything is welcome. On the other hand some Appeals have been met well and this was one of them.
In the same way as we sometimes seem to complain when funds are low so too can we say "Thank You" when the answer has been positive.
Quite a few stepped forward and helped us whether for the first time or they gave even more than they usually do.
The results helped us a lot.
We bought a powerful new computer and installed new legitimate much needed programs.
[One of my sons, Itamar Davidiy, spent hours upon hours making sure it all works properly. The improved results are already noticeable].
We also settled some debts and met other needs that needed to be dealt with.
Very little, if anything, goes to waste.
Brit-Am fulfills a need. The task of Brit-Am is important.
Brit-Am deserves support and usually receives it.
Nevertheless like all enterprises that keep going still more is needed.
The Lost Ten Tribes are among Western Peoples. We want them to know about it. We show proof of it.
Not everyone is exactly enthusiastic concerning our message. Some are against it, others very reserved.
Nevertheless we get through to some degree. The work goes on. Heaven opens its secrets to us and shows us the way at its own pace.
This should be appreciated. We are reaching out to others to assist us.
Assistance includes help with research, presentation, and finances.
We ALL SOMETIMES IMAGINE WE MIGHT LIVE FOREVER!
It does not work that way.
Things need to be done. Help us while you can and while we can best utilize whatever help is given.
They who are able to show their support for Brit-Am by sending an offering, or donation, or book-order, are asked to do so.
We believe we are fulfilling a Divine Purpose and that they who help us will be blessed from Heaven.
God bless you all,
Yair Davidiy

So glad to hear this, Yair! Thanks be to God! And I'm happy to hear that your son Itamar was willing and able to stand by you in getting the new computer up and running. It's good to have that kind of support from one's son.
May God continue to bless your work--

(b) Cherie Koch.
Shalom, Yair--I was not able to help but I am blessed to know that you were helped and have much needed equipment and what your ministry needs. Thank you for letting us know how it helped and that the work will be augmented because of the generosity of <<THE BROTHERS!>> HalleluYAH! In my mind I see a picture of Joseph and the brothers hugging around the neck because we SEE the identity of the tribes, esp. Joseph who was lost to them. I am anxious to begin reading your book, Joseph, that I recently received. Blessings. Cherie Koch

5. Gad was Very White in Appearance!
Addition to article.

re
Addition and Emendation.
Numbers (KJV) 11:
7 And the manna was as coriander seed [Seed of Gad], and the colour thereof as the colour of bdellium ["bedolach"].
Bedolach is indeed a very white previous stone. Coriander seed can by off-white, creamy, or very light brown, or vaguely grey.
The verse may be read from the Hebrew as if there is a comma after the word "color thereof," saying that it was [in shape] like the Seed of Gad and the color of it [i.e. of the Seed of Gad], this being the color of bdellium [i.e. bright white].
That it is how it is traditionally read in the Synagogue and how the Commentator Gersonides (quoted below) understood it. "Seed of Gad" did not necessarily mean coriander seed but perhaps something like it.
Rabbi Reuven Chaim Klein quotes Gersonides (RALBAG 1288-1344) as saying that the Seed of Gad (whatever it was) had a white coloring and so did the baby so he was named accordingly:
RALBAG (Gersonides) Exodus (Shmot) 16:31: ("Beir haMilot - Explanation of the Words"): # Like the Seed of Gad. I would think that it is one of the white-colored edible seeds. He (the baby) was similar to it due to its coloring, as if to say that he was white like the Seed of Gad. According to this the explanation of the words of Leah, "Gad comes" (Genesis 30:11) meant that the boy was white. Therefore he was compared to the Seed of Gad, and therefore he was named Gad. The intention being that he was like the Seed of Gad in his appearance and white like it. #
Note:
We read the sources as they are. We are not racist nor especially color conscious. Yair Davidiy is admittedly relatively pale but members of his family are mostly not like that.

Jacob (aka Israel) Kept the Law of Tithing: Jacob linked his tithing to a Return to the House of his Father. We can do the same.
Genesis (NIV) 28:
18 Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it.
19 He called that place Bethel, though the city used to be called Luz.
20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, "If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear 21 so that I return safely to my father's household, then the LORD will be my God 22 and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God's House, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth."
Malachi 3:
10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
That there may be food in My house,
And try Me now in this,
Says the LORD of hosts,
'If I will not open for you the windows of heaven
And pour out for you such blessing
That there will not be room enough to receive it.
Proverbs 3:
9 Honor the LORD with your wealth
and with the first of all your produce,
10 so your barns will be filled with abundance,
and your vats will burst open with new wine.
