Reuben and Gad: Tribal Names

The Tribes of Reuben and Gad had originally neighbored each other east of the Jordan River in the Land of Israel. They moved to the west with the rest of the Ten Tribes.Â
They were often associated with each other.
Reuben became prominent in France, Gad in Sweden and among the Goths.
Names of the Tribal Clans of Reuben and Gad are similar to those of groups who settled in France and Sweden.

The Romans claimed an origin for their founders from Troy. Troy is just to the west of Lydia where the Etruscans came from. The Edomite input to Rome seems to have come from several directions. The Spartans came from Edom. From Sparta came the Sabines who intermixed with the early Romans after the Romans had kidnapped some of their women. A portion of the Sabines moved into Rome almost right away. Another portions fought against Rome until it too was conquered and absorbed. Numerically the Sabine contribution to the Roman populace in its early years must have been significant.
