There was not that much of a historical connection between the American Revolution and the Israeli Declaration of Independence. There were however certain parallelisms and repeated historical patterns of behavior that are worth noting. One of the causes of the American Revolution was British attempts to safeguard the rights of Amerindians at the expense of British and European settlers. The possible rise in the price of tea due to taxation only precipitated the resolution of ongoing differences. America as a nation could not come into being with British guardianship of available lands on behalf of indigent parties. Right or wrong sometimes the forcers of historical imperative have a dynamism of their own.

What was the alternative?

Would it have been preferable to create a glorified nature preserve for noble savages instead of the USA? As opposed to the creation of a polity that may be one of the greatest nations to have ever come into being? The Indians themselves no longer really wanted it that way. The USA has saved millions of refugees from Europe and elsewhere and helped restore the dignity of mankind!

The same phenomenon of fiction with the British over native rights almost occurred in New Zealand and in South Africa and elsewhere. In some cases the British motivation for these acts of possibly misplaced charity was empathy for the natives.

Other incentives may also at times have existed.

So too with the Jews and British Mandate. The Jews in "Palestine" (that later became "Israel" or the "State of Israel") were not on the whole of British descent. On the contrary. Nevertheless, in a de facto sense they had come to be treated, sometimes reluctantly, as 'Wards of the Empire.' The British administrators came to feel that was the attitude expected of them. The British under the Mandate were always plagued with a wish to be fair to all parties. Many of them sympathized with the Arabs but on the whole in the long term felt a duty to favor the Jews. Nevertheless, sympathies and partisan leanings varied with one time to another, and with each official. Despite frequent differences of opinion and contrary needs the British up to 1938 helped the Jews in Palestine much more than they hindered them.

Then along came the Arab Revolt of 1936-38. The British effectively suppressed this attempt with one in every six Arab Palestinian males killed or wounded. The British were probably much more effective and necessarily ruthless in this than the Jews could have been, even today.

A possible revulsion over what had happened plus the impending approach of War with Germany led to an unfortunate reversal of British Policy. PM Neville Chamberlain is quoted as saying that if he had to choose between the Jews or the Arabs he would prefer the Arabs. Jewish immigration into the Holy Land was curtailed. Chamberlain abandoned Czechoslovakia to the Teutonic Menace. World War-2 began. Even after the outbreak of war Chamberlain was inclined to come to an agreement with Hitler while Jews were not allowed into their own country.

After the War the Labour Government of Clement Atlee with Ernest Bevin as Foreign Minister continued and emphasized the existing policy of limiting Jewish entry. This was while more than165, 000 (up until 1948) Jewish Refugees were languishing in Displaced Persons camps mainly in Germany with German (sometimes former Nazi) guards. They were not being allowing into Palestine. Even at this time the British attitude in Palestine towards the Jews remained positive but there were numerous exceptions.

Jewish Resistance groups came forward and fiction between the British and Jews increased. The King David Hotel Bombing in 1946 was probably partly the result of a Jewish British agent deliberately increasing the dosage of explosive. Quotes from:

It may have been intended by negative elements among the British to use this as an excuse to intensify hostility towards the Jewish community. The expected result did not transpire. The British decided to unilaterally leave the country. In the course of their evacuation some of the British helped the Jews while others sided with the Arabs.

On the whole the Jews benefited more from British Help but the Arabs also received assistance. The Israeli war of Independence led to the Israeli Declaration of Independence in 1948. So to, in the American  War of Independence the British occasionally committed war crimes and incited the Amerindians against American settlers.

Nevertheless it was a fratricidal conflict and the impression is their hearts were not in it.

This brings to mind another question, though: if a person is descended from Jews on their father's side, are they technically of the tribe of Judah, even if their mother isn't an Israelite "Jewish") and should they go ahead and convert?

Thank you for the query.
We are not adjudicators. We study the sources and based on what we understand give replies. There have been occasions when based on new information we have revised our opinion.
I may not have entirely understood the first part of your message.

(a) Israelite Tribal affiliation  is determined by the father.
The Lost Ten Tribes at the moment have the status of non-Jews and are not obliged by the Law though this will change in the future.
Someone from outside who attaches themself to  an Israelite Tribe will be counted as part of that Tribe.

Ezekeil (NKJV) 47:
21 THUS YOU SHALL DIVIDE THIS LAND AMONG YOURSELVES ACCORDING TO THE TRIBES OF ISRAEL.
22 IT SHALL BE THAT YOU WILL DIVIDE IT BY LOT AS AN INHERITANCE FOR YOURSELVES, AND FOR THE STRANGERS WHO DWELL AMONG YOU AND WHO BEAR CHILDREN AMONG YOU. THEY SHALL BE TO YOU AS NATIVE-BORN AMONG THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL; THEY SHALL HAVE AN INHERITANCE WITH YOU AMONG THE TRIBES OF ISRAEL.

(b)  The child of a Jewish father and a non-Jewish mother is non-Jewish. They may consider themselves part of the Lost Ten Tribes.  Indications (e.g. Abarbanel, 1437-1508, in several places) are that when the Lost Ten Tribes return such descendants of Judah may come with them.
The Lost Ten Tribes when they return will RENEW COVENANT. This will have the same effect as Conversion to Judaism does today.
At present they do not necessarily have to convert to Judaism.
