Dear Yair, After looking at the map of American ethnicity, I was not surprised to find folk from Kentucky,West Virginia,and Tennessee simply refer to them selves as simply American. I live in southwest Ohio,in Cincinnati, My family roots are English,Scotch-Irish (as we say here), and German. The English and Scotch-Irish of my family simply think of them selves American as having been here for so many generations in the rural areas with little or no reference to emigration of the 1700s. when I watch television programs from England I am surprised by the words and phrases used my modern day Britons that was and is considered "country",or "hillbilly" here in the city of emigrants.

Rabbi Reuven Brand ("A Serious Birthday Celebration", Torah To-Go, September 2013) connects Rosh HaShanah to the ultimate release of Joseph from prison.
Joseph was the favorite son of his father, Israel - also known as Jacob (Genesis chapters 37,39). The brothers of Joseph were jealous and angry with him. They sold Joseph as a slave to a group of Ishmaelite-Midianite Arabs. The brothers then made it look to their father that a wild beast had killed him. The Arabs took Joseph to Egypt where he was bought by Poti-Phera, the Chief Executioner. Joseph was falsely accused of attempted rape and imprisoned. In prison Joseph was given a position of authority. He successfully interpreted the dreams of two servants of Pharoah who had also been imprisoned.
Genesis 40:
20 On the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, he made a feast for all his servants, and lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker among his servants. 21 He restored the chief cupbearer to his cupbearing, and he placed the cup in Pharaoh's hand; 22 but the chief baker he hanged, just as Joseph had interpreted to them. 23 Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.
Even though Joseph was forgotten at this point he was later to be remembered.
When later Pharaoh needed someone to interpret his dreams, the Chief Cupbearer recalled the name of Joseph. This led to Joseph being released and becoming the effective ruler of Egypt (Genesis chapter 41), and being reconciled with his brothers (Genesis chapter 45).
...On this day it was customary for the King to review his Kingdom and the performance of his servants. This explains the fate of the Chief Baker and the Chief Cupbearer having been decided on that day.
The event, according to tradition, took place on Rosh HaShana.
Traditionally the world was created on this day.
In a sense it is as if the Almighty reviews the affairs of the world on this day.
In the Prayer Service it is called Yom Zicaron i.e. a Day of Remembrance.
We are also judged on this day. Everyone is judged according to what they are and the task they have in life.
Ephraim and the Ten Tribes are mentioned several times over in the Prayer Service.
... they are also blocked out concerning Remembrance of their Israelite Ancestry.
This psychologically constricts their ability to fulfill the duties they have as Israelites and as Descendants of Joseph.
They are lacking the knowledge of their Israelite Origins.
They are blocked out and we are working to unblock them.
This apparently is our calling.
We hope in the coming year to better fulfill this calling....
May the Almighty help all the Peoples of Israel.

Joseph is linked to the Hebrew New Year Day. We pray for the return of the Ten Tribes. On this day everyone and every nation is judged as to how they have meet the individual goals set for them by Heaven. Their performance is assessed. We all need to do what we can as we can as well as possible.
