Re: Brit-Am Now no. 2145: Ten Tribes Studies
Re: Rawlinsons History of Herodotus
Â
Yair. What you say is absolutely true. The reference given on the Wikipedia site gives: George Rawlinson, note in his translation of History of Herodotus, Book VII, p. 378. As a reference, this is useless. It does not state which edition, year of publication or anything. Rawlinson's History of Herodotus actually comes in FOUR volumes. Assuming that Book VII refers to Book VII of Herodotus, then this comment must appear somewhere in Volume 4 of Rawlinson's work. Page 398 would actually take you into Book IX. All four volumes can be viewed online at archive.org. The full path is http://archive.org/search.php?query=creator%3A%22Herodotus%2C%20George%20Rawlinson%22. Vol. 4 is the second entry in the list, though if you want to go straight to Vol. 4, the link is https://archive.org/details/historyherodotu00rawlgoog. You can look to your heart's content, but you will not find the quotation on Wikipedia as it appears to be completely spurious.
The internet is a very useful tool and provides access to a lot of useful information. Unfortunately, it is also often a source of much misinformation. People seem to accept what they read without really knowing whether or not the information is accurate or even knowing how to validate that information. I regret that this problem is not restricted to entries on Wikipedia.
I have a similar problem with Pretanike Nesou (var Pretanike Nesos) which is quoted by academics as the earliest name for the British Isles. When you start investigating the matter, you find that this name is totally spurious. When look into where the name originates, you end up going round in circles. On Wikipedia, it traces the name back to Pytheas. But the works of Pytheas HAVE NOT SURVIVED. Ah, but a number of later writers quote him. Er, no... A number of later writers refer to him, but to my knowledge do not quote him. They certainly make no mention of Pretanike. In fact, Pliny who refers to Pytheas tells us that Albion was the old name for Britain, and as Avienus who also refers to Pytheas also uses this name, we can safely conjecture that this was the name actually used by Pytheas.
The earliest reference to these isles is by Hesiod who calls them the Islands of the Blessed (Works and Days lines 170-172). Then Herodotus who calls them Cassiteridas (iii.115). After that, from the time of Polybius onwards, every writer from Julius Caesar, Strabo, Diodorus,* Appian, Pliny, Pausanias, Ptolemy, Dionysius Periegesis all use the Latin name Brettania or the Greek name Bretanikai in their various forms. NONE of them use the name Pretanike. Academics are actually using this deception as a foundation for their theory that the P-Celts culture arrived before the Q-Celts culture!
*Beware: Perseus Tufts clearly shows Pretanike in their copy of Diodorus Book 5, Chap. 21. (See http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Diod.+5.21&fromdoc=Perseus%3Atext%3A2008.01.0540) My copy by C. H. Oldfather (Loeb Classical Series) clearly shows Brettanike. I therefore did an internet search and found further copies online, this time scanned, and all showed Brettanikai. One of these was even by Immanuel Bekker, the original of the one used by Perseus Tufts for the above entry. I queried this with the webmaster at Perseus Tufts who confirms that it is a typographical error. Their original clearly shows Brettanikai with a Beta. They have yet to implement this change on their system so it still currently shows Pretanike. This just goes to show how careful you have to be.

Steve

3. Food for Thought: Manasseh is a Soul (Neshamah) Nation
Brit-Am/Hebrew Nations identifies the USA as being dominated by the Israelite Tribe of Manasseh.
In the work "Bnei Yissachar" (R. Zvi Elimelech Shapiro of Dinov, ca. 1841) in articles concerning the Hebrew months Cheshvan, Cislev, Tevat, there is quite a bit about the Tribe of Manasseh.
Several of these observations are of value to our teachings.
We may well present you all with a few articles derived from this source.
Amongst other points,
It is pointed out that Manasseh would become a great nation AFTER Ephraim.
Manasseh is linked to building the Future Temple!
The letters of Manasseh in Hebrew (MNSH) are the same letters as Neshamah (NSMH) meaning the soul.
This indicates that potentially there is a strong spiritual dimension to Manasseh.
It is not just materialism.
