Northern Ireland is in Ulster only part of Ulster, not the other way around as you put it. Ulster the Province, it has 9 counties not 6 as you say. 3 of these Ulster counties are part of the the Republic of Ireland. The Norther Irish flag officially called the 'Ulster Banner' is not an official flag & it was only drawn up in the1920's. This flag it comes from the Ulster flag yellow background not white with a red hand on a shield not a star, Ulster is 1 of the 4 ancient Provinces of Ireland.
The red hand on The Ulster Flag comes is from Irish myth, from The book of Invasions. In this story the first race [of people] to come to Ireland [came] in boats from Europe. Two brothers raced to the shore of Ireland, the first to touch it could claim the land. The brother that was loosing the race to the shore, cut his hand off while on the boat and threw (his red bloodied hand) to the Land so he could claim it winning the race. Â

OK. So 6 of the 9 counties of Ulster comprise Northern Ireland that is part of the United Kingdom.
The Magen David (star) as background to unofficial versions of the flag of Northern Ireland is well-known.
I put "Flag" of Northern Ireland" into Google Search Engine Pictures.
The first one to come up had a Magen David as background. After that came hundreds of additional examples.
MOST of them had a Magen David as background.
Check it out for yourself.
The Red Hand symbol has been explained as you say BUT mythology, like the explanation of names, sometimes comes to exist an existing reality whose real origins have been forgotten.
God bless you,
Yair

(b) Personal Family Anecdote: They all Descended from Jews!

Extracts:Â
seems there was a large group of Jews in northern Ireland... I come from a mixed family Christian Calvinist baptists on one side (my fathers) and Yiddish speaking Jews from NY on the mother's side and we all get along very well... my parents married neither of them were religious but my grandparents and great grandparents were on both sides so I got the best of both worlds... l had always assumed that the Christian side who came to North Carolina/ America in 1774 was just plain old christian but when I traced it back they were originally Jews from Northern Ireland who converted to Christianity sometime during the protestant reformation around the1600s-1700s... So the Calvinist "crypto" Jewish Christian side came here in 1774 and then my great grandfather who was a Jew from a yiddish speaking orthodox family came from Germany to NY in the 30s and guess what? they all trace back to the same Jewish family who originated in Germany and somehow ended up in northern Ireland ten some of them came to the USA....

The Tribe of Dana were an offshoot of the Tribe of Dan. They came to Ireland after sojourning in Scandinavia and Greece. They are spoken of in Irish Legend. They may have included a separate element from Judah amongst them. See: Danny Boy.
