from hollow1
Hi Yair
I was intrigued by the post from 'hollow1', viz:
>>> The red hand on The Ulster Flag comes is from Irish myth, from The book of Invasions. <<<
I've heard elements of this tale before, so decided to track down this 'Book
of Invasions' for myself.
You can read a translation at:
http://www.donaldcorrell.com/tales/invasions.html . I don't know how
accurate the account or translation is, but at least it's a tad better than
'they say...'.
It's actually an interesting story about the exploits of the Tuatha de
Danaan. I searched the article on 'red hand' but found nothing. Mind you,
I found something about a 'right foot' - maybe close enough? Then I
searched on 'red' alone, but the only word it through up was 'Red [Sea]'. I
thought: "Wait a minute -- I've heard of that!". A couple of lines down I
then read:
'With Pharaoh fought; Niul contracts with Scota, The conception of our
fathers. They took the name "Gaedels," The name " Scots" spreads, The fair
daughter of Pharaoh. They overspread Lands, Burst into Scythia...' Really!
And again:
'Scota was at Scots' head; A name was changed from them. They advance past
Africa, Good was the man under whom they trembled; Fenius Farsad, the keen,
Well he spread for us a lasting name. They approached Spain, Where was born
a numerous progeny, Donn, Airech, Amergin, Eber, Ir, Colptha himself,
Eremon, Erannan, The eight sons of Golam. Mil's renown came upon them, The
sons of Mil [Miledh?] wealthy; Their scholars resolved, Divided ships, The
men returned from the burial of Fial. They divided Ireland!'
Hmmm. Shades of the Declaration of Arbroath and the invasion of Ireland
(aka Hibernia) by the Milesian Scots from Scythia, via Spain (aka Iberia).
Note the name 'Eber' (Heber Scot). 'Eber' in Hebrew means 'to cross over'.
My curiosity had now become a fixation!
However, the Donald Correll translation might just be pure fiction built on
more pure fiction, so I decided to test it a bit further and came across
gold old Wikipedia: (see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lebor_Gab%C3%A1la_%C3%89renn). The following
is an extract:
' Early history of the Gaels.
This chapter explains, and is based on, the belief that all mankind is
descended from Adam through the sons of Noah. It tells us how Noah's son
Japheth is the forebear of all Europeans (see Japhetites), how Japheth's son
Magog is the forebear of the Gaels and Scythians, and how Fenius Farsaid is
the forebear of the Gaels. Fenius, a prince of Scythia, is described as one
of 72 chieftains who built the Tower of Babel. His son Nel weds Scota,
daughter of an Egyptian pharaoh, and they have a son named Goedel Glas.
Goedel crafts the Goidelic (Gaelic) language from the original 72 languages
that arose after the confusion of tongues. Goedel's offspring, the Goidels
(Gaels), leave Egypt at the same time as the Israelites (the Exodus) and
settle in Scythia. After some time they leave Scythia and spend 440 years
wandering the Earth, undergoing a series of trials and tribulations akin to
those of the Israelites, who spent 40 years wandering in the wilderness.
After many years at sea, they settle in the Maeotian marshes, then sail via
Crete and Sicily and conquer Iberia. There, Goedel's descendant Breogean
founds a city called Brigantia, and builds a tower from the top of which his
son, Ith, glimpses Ireland.
It appears that this chapter was meant to give the Gaels a genealogy which
links them to key Biblical figures and conforms to Judeo-Christian beliefs.
It links them to events from the Old Testament and likens them to the
Israelites. The claim of Scythian origins seems to be based on the
similarity of the names Scoti and Scythae. In his earlier History of the
Goths, Isidore concludes that the Goths and Gets are related due to their
similar names, and says that they (along with the Scythians) descend from
Magog. Other medieval pseudo-historians did likewise with other nations. The
claim of Iberian origins may also be based on the similarity of the names
Iberia and Hibernia. The claim that the Gaels settled in the Maeotian
marshes seems to have been taken from the Book of the History of the Franks,
and their travels to Crete and Sicily may have been based on the tale of
Aeneas. Brigantia refers to Corunna in Galicia (which was then known as
Brigantium) and Breogeon's tower is likely based on the Tower of Hercules
(which was built at Corunna by the Romans).'
Some of the above may be open to argument/interpretation, but at least is
worthy of further examination -- and a bit better than 'they say...'.
I am therefore most grateful to hollow1 for helping me uncover yet another
nugget (though, yes, perhaps arguable) of Irish/Israelite history.
Regards
John Thornton

7. Reference to Dumond Removed.
A reference made innocuously by one of our followers has been removed from a Facebook discussion.
We try not to interfere and often even remain unaware of what is going on there but there are limits.
A Reference to Joseph Dumond has been Removed.
Joseph Dumond is anti-Jewish. This shows through in his writings but he does not always emphasize it.
Many, including ourselves at first, were unaware of this aspect of the person concerned. He too, despite his anti-Jewishness recommended us and quoted from us on occasion.
Even though he is popular and has been successful in promoting himself he is not necessarily the brightest spark in the room, or at least so he pretends. He is liable to say things, or quote others favorably saying them, and then deny the implications of what is being said.
We used to be tolerant of him but then we found him posting and entertaining anti-Jewish Nazi type notions and spreading them.
We have met this type before.
Please do not bring him up on our forums. God bless you, Yair
ps. We note that Jew-haters such as Dumond and others have been quite successful in infiltrating the so-called Ephraimite movement whereas Yair Davidiy of Brit-Am has been successfully ostracized.
We are not really complaining. This might be for the better.
