2. Orjan Svensson: Sweden as Gad
Re: Brit-Am Now no. 2469. Lost Ten Tribes Studies
Shalom,
Peter Salemi writes that Switzerland is Gad. The fact is that Sweden and Switzerland are often confused. Both are neutral countries and not members of NATO. You identified Switzerland as well as Finland with Issachar. Finland was for a long time a part of Sweden.
Do we have an overlap of Gad and Issachar in Switzerland as well?
The name Goth, which you said is how Gad could be pronounced, is anyway strongly associated with Sweden, as in our second largest city, Gothenburg.
The inhabitants of Gotland in the Baltic sea are called gutar.
Gad's son Ziphion I believe indicates an association with the north, since Zaphon means north. The names Steven, Stephen, Stefan and Staffan could in my opinion have come from Zaphon, and St Staffan was the traditional apostle of Halsingland in north Sweden, but this could of course be a complete coincidence.
The Herules, who had a name similar to Areli were said to have settled in Sweden. The Virds, see Virdar, Â Wikipedia, in south Sweden could in my opinion be descended from Arodi.
Virdar - Wikipedia
Virdar är en gammal benämning på befolkningen i folklandet Värend.

On the whole I still believe that Sweden probably mainly pertains to Gad, with enclaves of Asher and possibly Dan in coastal areas and with many enclaves of non-Israelites as well.

Orjan

Very interesting article concerning discovery of pottery bearing the name Eshbaal. In the 2012 excavations on the Temple Mount, Eli Mazar discovered another inscribed sherd of pottery, which she dates to around the 10th century bce. She found evidence that the inhabitants of Jerusalem during the time of kings David and Solomon were using a form of what has been wrongly termed Proto-Canaanite script. (Biblical Archaeology Review Vol. 40, No. 3 (May/June 2014), article entitled The New Jerusalem Inscription  So What?> by Alan Millard, Biblical Archaeology Society.*) When 'the men of Hezekiah' copied the Proverbs of Solomon (Prov. 25:1) they will have transcribed from the original 'Proto-Canaanite' script into the more modern Paleo-Hebrew script which was in use in their day. (The Hebrew square script, which we are used to today, was introduced much later.)

I also agree with your comments concerning Gad in Sweden, though the name Sweden (from Svealand) is actually a corruption of Ishvi-land, where Ishvi is identifiable as the third son of Asher (Gen.46:17).
