Extracts:
30% of the English language actually is composed of French;
It is the only country in the world to have portions of its territory over FIVE continents:
- Europe of course;
-the Americas with the French Caribbean, french Guyane, Clipperton and St Pierre et Miquelon islands;
- Africa: Reunion, Mayotte, Bassas, Juan de Nova and Tromelin islands;
- Antarctica (some do not consider it as a continent, and there's a treaty of extra territoriality which France has ratified and does respect, but still: Terre Adelie, Kerghelen, Crozet, St Paul and new Amsterdam islands are French) and of course:
- Oceania with french Polynesia and Neo Caledonia); - After having just obtained a 500000 sq.km. Extension of it's exclusive economical zone (there's an extra million sq.km.pending decision), France has economical monopoly over 11 millions square kilometers, bigger than Canada;
- It therefore spans on twelve hourzones, more than Russia ( yes, Brits, the sun never sets on OUR empire (by French empire, please understand: those specks you thought were typos in the middle of your oceanic map));
- It has fought and won more battles over the course of its history than any other country in the world (source: the BBC).
- It actually fought on all sides during WWII, even against its own self:
western front, eastern front, Africa, Italy, the middle east, Indochina, Russia (as in:" Russia: the enemy of Germany"...).
Among the last troops to have been found defending the Reichtag in Berlin in April (1945) were French troops from the Charlemagne pro nazi (rather: anti communist) division.
Some of them executed the next day by French troops...from the other side.

I would say it has never been Anglo-Saxon, majority Anglo-Celtic yes, but never a true Anglo-Saxon country.
Currently approximately 58% of The Australian population is Anglo-Celtic (Britain, Scotland, Wales, Ireland) heritage.
Having said that Australia is a truely multicultural nation and has been since it was first settled by Europeans.
Below is how people nominated their ancestry on the 2016 census (I know this doesnt add up to 58% - different sources)
36% English
33.5% Australian
11% Irish
9.3% scottish
2.8% Indigenous
5.6% chinese
4.6% Italian
4.5% German
2.8% Indian
1.8% Greek
1.6% Dutch
1.4% Filipino
1.4% Vietnamese
1% Lebonese
This on top of the fact that
29% of Australians where born overseas
And
20% had at least one parent born overseas.
