The Whoredoms of Israel. Rough Translation by Yair
Chapter 2:
Note on Chapter Divisions:
The Hebrew Bible has its own internal divisions.
In all Hebrew Bibles printed today however a division into chapters is given that follows one set by Christian printers.
To further confuse the issue, the particular Christian Printing division into Chapters used in printed (as against hand-written scrolls) Hebrew Bibles is not exactly the same as that found in Christian Bibles today.
[We however are using the conventional Christian Printing Chapter Divisions.]
Hosea ch.1:10-11 begins chapter 2 in the Hebrew Printed Bibles.
[1:10] 2:1 And the number of the Children of Yisrael
Shall be like the sand of the sea,
Which is not measurable nor numbered;
And in the place where it is said to them,
'Not My People,'
It shall be said to them,
'Sons of the Living God [El].'
[1:11] 2:2 And shall be gathered together the Children of Yehudah and the Children of Yisrael as one
And they will place for themselves one Head,
And they will go up from the land,
For great is the Day of Yezreel [Ingathering of God].
Chapter 2 [2:3 in the Hebrew versions]:
1 Say to your brothers, You Are My People ['Ammi,'] and to your sisters, Beloved ["Ruhamah" also connoting "Be Shown Mercy Unto"]
2 Quarrel with your mother, Quarrel,
For she is not my wife, and I am not her Man;
Let her remove her fornications from before her
And her adultery from between her breasts,
3 Lest I strip her naked
and display her like the day she was born.
I shall place here like a wilderness,
Set her like a parched land, and kill her with thirst.
4 And her children I shall not show mercy to, for they are the children of fornications.
5 for their mother has fornicated
She has shamed their parentry,
for she said I shall go after my lovers, the givers of my bread, and my water, and my wool, and my linen, and my oil, and my drink [or "medicine"].
6 Therefore, behold, I shall hedge up your path with thorns and I shall fence in your fence and your pathways will not be known.
7 She will pursue her lovers, but she shall not overtake them;
And she will seek them, but will not find them.
And she will say, 'I will go and I shall return to my first man
For it was better for me then than now!'
8 And she did not know, It was I who gave her the corn
the new wine and the oil.
And silver I lavished on her,
and gold, they made for Baal.
9 Â Therefore, IÂ shall return, I shall take away my corn in its time
And my new wine in its season.
And I shall salvage my wool and my linen
[that was] to cover her nakedness.
10 And now I shall uncover her depravity
In the sight of her lovers,
And no man will rescue her out of My hand.
11Â I shall cause to cease all her joys, her feasts, her anniversaries [new moons],
Sabbaths, and gatherings.
12 And I shall cause to fall down her vines and fig trees,
I will destroy her vines and fig trees,
Of which she said, 'These are my hire for prostitution
that were given me by my lovers'.
And I will make them like a pubic woodland,
And they shall be devoured by the beast of the field.
13 I will visit upon her the days of the baals to whom she would offer incense unto.
And she would adorn herself with nose-ring and decoration,
And she went after her lovers, and ME she forgot, " Â declares the LORD.
14 Therefore, behold I shall seduce her,
and bring her into the wilderness,
And I shall speak unto her heart.
15 Â "And I will give her her vineyards from there,
And the valley of Achor [Trouble] as a Door of Hope.
And she shall answer with song there as in the days of her youth,
And as on the day when she came up from the Land of Egypt.
16 "And it will be on that day", speaks the Lord,
"That you will call Me 'My Man' [Hebrew: "Ishi"]
And will no longer call Me 'My Baal' [Hebrew: "Baali", i.e. lord, sex partner].
17 And I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth,
And they not be recalled by their names any more.
18 [20] And I shall cut a covenant with them on that day
with the beast of the field and with the fowl of the heaven and the crawling things of the ground.
I the bow and the sword and war i shall cause to cease from the earth and you will lie down securely.
19 I will betroth you to Me forever;
I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and in justice,
In lovingkindness and in compassion,
20 And I will betroth you to Me in faith.
And you shall know the LORD.
Hosea 2: 21-23 The Israelites will acknowledge the ALMIGHTY!
21 [23 in Hebrew printed versions]
And it will be on that day that I shall respond, says the LORD , I shall respond and they shall respond to the earth.
22 And the earth shall respond to the grain, to the new wine and to the oil,
And they shalll respond to Jezreel.
23 I will sow her for Myself in the land.
I will also have compassion on her who had not obtained compassion,
And I will say to those who were not My people,
'You are My people!'
And they will say, 'You are my God!'"Â
